Back at the start of Sept, I went to check out the two schools Crusaderette is deciding between for HS. One school is Scottsdale Desert Mountain where Kyle Allen and Mark Andrews played and where Kurt Warner is currently the OC. The other is Notre Dame Prep. Sounds like a no brainer, amarite? Well just wait till you have kids!

I’d seen Warner’s team play the week before (he has a ’19 QB named Kedon Slovis who will be a P5/MWC signee.) NDP I haven’t seen in years. I’d seen Smith’s Soph film but he remained unrated and had no offers Well it’s obvious the recruiting world is way behind on Jake Smith. This kid’s all the way live. The coaches are coming around though, all 5 of his offers came after that game.

Through 5 games he’s got 500 yds rushing @ 10ypc clip w/ 5 TD’s and almost 600 yds receiving at… 35 ypc and 7 TD’s. Throw in a KOR TD too. He would have a lot more if he didn’t have to share the rock with the Sr. RB who has 650 yards on twice as many carries.

Really one of the best tapes you will see and he’s not playing against total chumps either. He claims a 4.5 and he looks it, I wouldn’t argue if he was claiming 4.4’s. In the recent past here in Scottsdale, I’ve seen Davonte, DJ Foster, Christian Kirk and Byron Murphy (UDub). This kids in that league. His acceleration is better than any of those guys except Kirk. I don’t wanna play the McCaffrey card just cuz he’s white but you could based on what I saw.

He looks fast on film, he looks faster in real life. He also has great hands and tracks the ball really well. I saw one of those over the shoulder catches live. There’s a few of them on the tape. He has good size, 6 ft-ish. I’d like him at APB/Slot but he could play outside and he’s played some FS. If Fertitta had this guy’s body and speed, he’d be in prison for murder.

A guy sitting by me saw my ND polo and started talking about the team. He said that he was a good baseball and LAX player also. Said one of his best friends is committed to ND in baseball for 2019. His name’s Cody Huff. So he already has a roommate!

I find it interesting that IU and UofI are two of his first offers. I wonder if he has connections to the area?

Been since May I think since I made a profile. Feels good! Hopefully the staff gives him a look, he’s a guaranteed player.

I was wrong, his son is Jack Smith. I remembered his son played football when he was in Bloomington. He is now a QB at AZ State.

Yep, they all went through North. When they moved out here, Jack was the QB for the #1 team in AZ.

Tracy lived 3 doors down the hall from me freshman year. Small world.

There is only one question: can he break tackles? I only ask because he was rarely touched. When he hit the jets, not many were within arms reach.

ND followed him this morning. You'll see some info about him from the ND recruitniks now. Crusader's job is done.

I went to his game last night vs Scottsdale Chaparral. Smith had around 170 yards rushing and a couple of TD's including a 75 yd highlight reel run. If this guy got the rock every time, he'd have 350-400 yds of rushing/receiving per. Their Sr. RB, Cole Fisher had over 200 yds combined. He might be a MWC player if not a classic Ivy League resume for sure.

Chaparral has 3 studs in the '20 class... the #1 QB by 247, Jack Miller, a Top 100 RB Darvon Hubbard who transferred in from Akron, Ohio and Tommy Christakos a 6-3 WR who is also a top national kicker working out of Chris Sailer Kicking. I'd offer Christakos right now. He has offers from AZ, ASU and Memphis. He had 2 TD rec and a 45 yd FG. Miller looked human.

Smith also added offers from Duke and Cal yesterday. More demographic proof that he's the right demo. Was told SC might be his dream school. No italics.

Spoke with an ND alum who is extremely tied in to the AZ Football scene and ND Prep in particular last night at the Phoenix ND Club's Watch Party who told me Jake Smith's Dad had asked when Jake's ND offer is coming? He's at 1000 yds both rushing & receiving with @ 30 TD's for the 12-0 Saints. Play in the state semi's next weekend.

I don't even need to watch tape of other 2019 recruit's to know that this guy is one of my favorites in 2019. I only needed to watch the first 5 minutes of his tape to know that he very well could be McCaffrey 2.0. Runs the ball like a legit running back and catches the ball like a legit receiver; a skinnier, whiter version of LeVeon Bell.

Put him with Kevin Austin and Lenzy and you have one really athletic and dangerous group of receivers.

Tommy's been following his Sr QB, 2* Kylan Weisser for a month or so. He's got a handful of FCS offers, an ND PWO might trump Idaho or NAU if it's in the budget, which if you're at that school in this town... it is.

Getting Weisser as Gummy's replacement certainly wouldn't hurt in Smith's recruitment.

They also have a very good Sr RB named Cole Fisher who has no offers yet w/ FCS sniffing. Fam is from VA. 5-11/190 - 1400 yds / 25 TD's sharing the ball with Smith. Dude can play.

He'd be another great PWO offer.

“My dad is actually from Indiana, so he’s a huge Notre Dame fan,” Smith said. “I don’t know much about it, but one of my friends is committed there to play baseball. So, it’s definitely going to be a place I consider.
