NPF can run. On one play he really hustled across the field to find someone to block. Then he got way down the field on a punt and took a great angle to tackle the punt returner from behind.

He was dominating. There were a few kids that were dominant. More so than I recall in previous years/games.

My take is that Mike has a lot more "fan" to him than a lot of the other site writers.
Like most fans, the standard is 11-2, 200 ypg rushing, 35 or more points on offense, and less than 20 points a game on defense.
When things are going that way, Mike gets high, credit is given, and optimism is expressed.
When things are not going that way, Mike gets low, blame is assigned, and despair is expressed.
With the current social media trends, the highs and the lows come fast and furious.
As for recruits, he's pessimistic, but not to a fault.

yeah NPF didn't look like a 5*. Still an obvious take, but looks maybe a little too raw and skinny right now. Huge potential, not a finished product.

when the analysts say it was a down year for OL talent they weren't wrong. Be interested to see what the AA Bowl offers with Salyer etc.

2019 OL class looks like it's gonna be better.
Doesn't look like very many instant impact OL's in this class. But then again, you basically never want to be playing true freshman OL- no matter how good they are. That position takes alot of mental and physical development.

NPF looked really good on some plays and really bad on some. He did look like he has a motor as he was moving up and down the field...but he also got beat by the speed rush of Anoma and #8 on numerous occasions. Worst play was near the end when he totally whiffed on Anoma off the edge and gave up the sack that essentially ended the game. All in all, I'd still love to have him as he looks to have the frame and athleticism to be very good with a few years in ND's strength program and HH's coaching!

Wiltfong was interviewed on Bucknuts Morning 5 this week that relationships are very important to NPF and that could be a positive for pOSU. ND and Michigan are replacing their OL coaches. Florida has new coaches.

I believe Jamie at ISD said that he was one of the least impressive, physically, of the OL/DL. With that said, the obvious athleticism and raw tools are there, he's just not a day 1 guy like a Salyer for example.
Precisely why that conversation over landing NPF and that impacting our game against UM to start next season was a huge waste of time.

Rasheed Walker just set his OV for next weekend and got some CB's. Wiltfong has long thought he'd go Buckeye. If Walker joins Max Wray in Columbus, NPF couldn't go to OSU, right?

That wasn't the conversation....at least not my conversation.
My conversation was....after next year's departure of Mustipher and Bars....the O-line will be very thin at quality fill ins. Having 6-7 quality o-line who can play is not enough. With injuries and other situations, a team needs to be 8-10 deep...especially if they play a schedule as crazy as ND does.

Which 3-4 guys below are YOU saying won't be quality in 2019? And explain how you know this. Then explain how Top 50 Hunter Bivin wasn't a first round pick, then explain how low 3*'s like Dan Feeney & Jason Spriggs of IU, Pat Elfein of OSU and half of the other AA's each year ever get to be quality? 95% of college football would KILL right now to go into their 2019 season with that roster. The other 5% would just be happy or at worst content.

I think the article about Kevin Feder transferring out of CBus said the Bucks are going to return only 3 OT's from this years team. There is another OT transferring out this year along w KF. They have 1 committed (Wray I assume) for 18 already and they are still recruiting. I believe they are still looking to fill 2 spots.

I get that and they will get 3 if that's what they want (they can still grab a juco too).
My point is you don't usually see 3 top true OT's (none of which are projected swing prospects) go to one school in a cycle when there are only two spots on the field for them... one of which none of the three expect to play (RT)

You have listed 10 players. TEN players. Ten Freakin players..... 2 with any experience whatsoever.
This isn't Iowa 5 man Junior High School ball...you do know that 10 players is the bare minimum you can practice with???????? This is the epitome of playing without a safety net.
And its lazy of you to ask me to prove a negative.
The question you need to ask is.... after next season with Mustipher and Bars leaving can any of these players make the leap to SUCCESSFULLY compete at the SOS ND will be facing over the next 2-3 seasons?
Other than Kraemer and Hainsey who semi proved they could compete last year, there is no experience. In college ball....that is typically an issue if you play very good teams week after week? Especially if you want to win 10+ games. If the idea is too compete and win 6-7 games, like most teams...then you can run with an inexperienced O-line, with a number of them being 3 star talent!!
What you can't logically assume is...well since a 3 star made All American this year....and we have a number of 3 stars.....we have a all American line

Whatever. It's checkmate because YOU claimed only 6-7 would be quality, so either YOU have an idea who will not be quality or YOU were lazy and just came up with some random numbers. Speaking of lazy, you didn't even take the time to calculate who would be here in 2019 because you left out next year's class in your practice #'s count.
The answer is 100% yes. All of them can. All of them won't, some of them will, some of them won't. That's how it works. But what All American teams and programs like Iowa, Wiscy & IU have shown is 3* .8200-.8600 type players turn into not just quality but exceptional college players. Here's the recruiting profile for the guy who many think is the #2 OG this year. He went to a decent HS program in Las Vegas and didn't get those stars but yet somehow he did what you are worried a few of ND's players can't.

What did Kraemer do the year before to earn him starting 10 games this year? He impressed coaches in practice. Why does Chip Long expect Ruhland to play at OG next year? Because he impressed him in practice. Why does Long see Banks competing at OT instead of inside where we've been told he's move? Impressed him in practice.
There are 2 spring balls and a full season of time for these guys to develop into upper classmen. Every year teams with CFP aspirations have to retool on the fly with guys who have played very little. That's how it works. Sometimes it's worse than OL... What did Kizer do before Virginia that gave you any hope when Malik broke his fibula? What did you see in Julian Love's HS ratings or his film that led you to believe he could effectively play on an island as a true freshman CB? see what I mean? Catch the NC Game? Those 5th year QB's really were the difference.

I simply pointed out that you, nor even I can say how many of the 2019 OL group will be "quality" OL's and evidence from other programs, AA's and the NFL draft support the notion that 3* (and under) prospects regularly become excellent players not to mention the vast majority of "quality" OL's in CFB.

What I said was....UND lost McG, Q, Hoge, Boudreaux and will lose Mustipher and Bars.....and has so far replaced them with Mabry, Dirksen and Jones....this is as far as I can tell a future problem.
Please don't bother telling me who we are going to get in 2019.....let's just wait and see.
Now for full disclosure....I did not see HH going to the NFL......But now that he has, I can somewhat understand the underwhelming 2018 recruiting class.
McG, Q Hoge, Kraemer, Eichenberg, Hainsey, Mustipher, Bars and Lugg were all highly regarded 4/5 star propsects. None of them were considered a reach and as a result ND got decent o-line play from these highly regarded lineman. Enough to get 10 wins in two of the past 3 years.
Now that the herd has been thinned of the best, you can count on taking a step back. You can actually take that to the bank.
No team can lose a McG and Q and replace them with our unproven soph's and not suffer....Bama and OSU included.
When Stanley left the Oline play fell of considerably. Losing McG and Q will be worse.
And final point....I bolded the line where you thought that I said....... 6-7 WOULD BE quality.....you misunderstood. From that list 6 -7 at most MAY be quality o-linemen (book mark this and pin it). They may play....but then again so did Jalen Elliot
