He'll be in South Bend this week. You don't get a good feeling when reading the various sites but he's on campus and so are Hayes & Kareem so he'll have some Detroit guys to relate to.

I usually worry about WR's, OL's & TE's thinking they'll be riding sidelines at ND but DPJ probably looks at ND's unit and thinks it'd be him, McKinley and who ever else the staff runs out there with them.

If they get him, I don't care who else they get on offense this year... Foster Sarell included.

I think our best shot with some of the big name recruits like DPJ is that they hold off on committing anywhere until the season starts, and then we crush UT on Sunday night in the opener. That gets us a bunch of OVs for MSU and Stanford, and from there we knock it of the park.

I don't think we'll ever be a recruiting juggernaut in the offseason because we don't pressure kids to commit early or spend all our time bashing other schools. But if we can get kids on campus and to a game in their senior year, we've had a decent amount of success reeling in big fish.

His dad is a Michigan grad, and that's where it seems his family wants him to go. His high school head coach Thomas Wilcher played with Harbaugh at Michigan back in the 80's, and Cass Tech has sent a ton of kids to Michigan. He's got lots of ties pulling him in that direction.

BUT I've heard the kid grew up a big fan of USC and Florida, and that those are the teams that are the real threat to snag him.

He's as big a fish as the state of Michigan has ever produced. Probably up there with Tyrone Wheatley and Charles Rogers as far as national recruits. Not even Ronald Johnson was as athletic as this kid. RoJo as he was known, was running in the 4.6's at those Nike combines.

DPJ's been clocked in the low 4.4's at the Nike combines. Not to many skill position athletes like him come from Michigan. He's 6'1.5 right now in the 190s and his athletic ability is off the charts. Vertical, shuttle, 40, all elite. Just an explosive athlete with great size for the WR position.

Really? You're on an ND board. You can't name greatest players from the state of Michigan without mentioning Bettis. Parade All American & Gatorade POY, could have gone anywhere he wanted to. I'd throw Andre Rison on that list too... along with Lamar Woodley and TJ Duckett. Duckett's the best player I ever saw when I lived in the Midwest.

yeah you're right. I did forgot about those guys for sure. Drew Henson was one of those types as well. So was Kelly Baraka actually. The state doesn't produce a lot of them.

As far as pure athletes go, Rison, Woodley, Duckett, Bettis, etc., still aren't in the same league as Wheatley and Charles Rogers. Wheatley was a 6'1, 225 pound kid in high school that ran in the 4.3's and set just about every HS state track record in the state of Michigan. Rogers was a 6'3, 190 pound WR that ran in the 4.3's and tied or broke nearly every track record Wheatley set. Those dudes had freakish size and freakish speed for their positions. DPJ isn't quite at those two guys' level athletically but he's pretty dang close.

No offense to you Michiganders, but arguing about the best player in Michigan is somewhat fruitless.

Michigan is no Ohio! In fact, Michigan is no Tennessee. Michigan does kick-ass over Rhode Island and Delaware, however.

(Fuck Michigan!)

Michigan doesn't have as many NFL players all-time as Tennessee? Wouldn't have guessed that.

that doesn't seem like that is right. Tennessee is such a small state. Probably is right though. I do know that a lot of kids in Michigan grow up playing hockey if they're from the 'burbs and basketball if they are from inner cities. HS football in the state has never been huge. It's gotten a lot better overall in recent years though.

It's gotten a lot better overall in recent years though.

Tennessee is such a small state? You serious Clark? Tennessee shares more borders with other states than any other state in the country. Large state but not known for turning out a ton of NFL talent.

What does that have to do with the size of a state?

Tennessee is 36th in size and 17th in population. Not exactly a large state.

Never thought someone would get upset about the size of their state!

Remember IM3, "It's not the size that matters!"

Michigan doesn't have as many NFL players all-time as Tennessee? Wouldn't have guessed that.

The state, not the university.

Clark is always serious. But here is one for you : If you get on I-40 near Wrightsville Beach, in Wilmington, NC., and you drive to the Mississippi River, staying on I-40 the whole way, how many states do you drive through?

Whoda thunk it.

And when you talk about Universities, STILL! BOORAH! That's right!

The state, not the university.

That's what I meant. Michigan has had 2x the population as Tennessee for most of the NFL's existence and the NFL was a northern dominated sport for most of the league's existence. I'd have guessed there were twice as many NFL players from Michigan than Tennessee since the league's beginning.

Loy thinks we are in the top four for him but no mention of him from fan boy Lorenzo when he brought up his top schools. It would be a miracle if he didn't attend Michigan IMO

A freebie from Loy/247.

notre-dame-recruiting-donovan-peoples-jones-at-a-high-level

At this point, Notre Dame likely trails Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State. However, it's believed the Irish are currently in his top five, which gives the staff a shot. With a player like Peoples-Jones, one who will likely not announce a decision on or near National Signing Day, a shot at this point is all you can ask for.

According to the 247Sports Crystal Ball, Michigan is the favorite, with Ohio State, Michigan State and Florida all trailing with a few predictions each to their name. Like Notre Dame, Florida State should also be considered a player in this race and shouldn't be counted out at this point.

At this point, ND fans are usually clinging to the theory that ND must have a Championship Game run while other teams on the list all stumble. Problem is, the other three have about an 80% chance of getting one in the playoff and most think it's his leader as OSU and MSU have had significant talent drain since '16

I'm just not seeing it here or with any of the big 5 star WR's in '17. At this point I'd go public and cut bait on DJP, Grimes & Higgins. I'd stay after Joseph Lewis because they're recruiting 4 other Hawkins players right now in '17 & '18 but I wouldn't have any expectations unless something else happens at SC forcing it from dumpster fire into nuclear meltdown. I'd stay after Lindsey in the slot who apparently is still saying enough to keep the analysts believing that ND has a chance. (Plus he just spent 5 months hanging out with Von McKinley at school everyday, that can't be forgotten.)

Besides those two, I go all in on OSB, Tarik Black and Hezekiah Jones and expect some combo of those three to join Isaiah Robertson in South Bend with the probability of a 3 star slot like Michael Young, Kolby Taylor who the Irish have offered or a Jamire Calvin type who they haven't, to fill in the spot if/when Lindsey doesn't commit.

Just scored the game winning 2 point conversion against Saline High School in the MHSAA D-1 playoffs. I was at the game and he wasn't as impressive as I thought but definitely a beast considering the style of offense Cass Tech runs with a left handed QB...
