Gotta love recruiting, we are 8 days removed from him talking about how committed he is to the program and "restoring Notre Dame's tradition."

Pouncey can't hold this guys jock anyways, let's just take him now that he's free and looking to visit (see profile).

Latavious Brini, Mater Academy Charter, Cornerback

I really like Brini on the defensive side of the ball. A great fit for what Elko will want to do, IMO. And bringing in defenders is probably a much higher priority. However, I'd really like to keep Pouncey, as he is a quality addition to the offense.

I agree with the question "why." Degree aside Miami produces good WR's and it's a great weather power 5 University close to home where his cousins attended. That being said this would be a big loss in that he's our only true WR commit and is and X WR where we only have Stepheron, McKinley and Finke....To make things worse we don't seem to be in it for many other WR's as of now. I don't know why we haven gotten any big time WR's in this class considering the talent we have at QB and OL plus lack of proven talent/players at X and slightly at W and Z. I think WR recruits are looking toward the NFL and don't wanna do the school work or play in the weather at ND.

Last year's haul was pretty good, and '15 was good too. Also, Michael Young is a WR, right? I thought that Pouncey was the one the staff thought could play safety.

1) Inferior program. Period. You can say 4 wins last year but that is a rarity. Plus the fact when ND did only beat 4 teams, one was miami

2) Miami has a good education but not NDs level

3) Pro potential from program. Compare the numbers

Miami will never be more than a middle of the pack team again. Not with FSU and FL taking the majority of the FL quality recruits not to mention other teams in the region like Bama. Miami is not a nationwide recruiter.

We had a good haul last year yes. We lost Corey Holmes and Hunter. Boykin, ESB and Claypool are all W WR's though so our X is a little thin. Michael Young is a Z/ slot guy. Pouncey was told by staff he would be playing WR. I don't think Pouncey wants to play DB although he is quite good at it on tape.

Notre Dame has quality players at WR. But depth is getting thin. Also the group was very inconsistent last year and may continue. The team is not stocked at WR and needs to keep Pouncey, Young and get Allen and another WR this class.

LAX...please expand...

That sounds about right, but Alize will be playing X, right? He and Steph?

No. We have ESB, Boykin and Claypool @ W. We have Stepherson, McKinley, Finke at X. We have CJ, Michael Young and Finke at Z. Last spring before Alize became uneligible, he was practising predominately at W and in split-out TE formations. He commented that he "loved" his new W position. X WR typically is the smaller big-play WR - Torri Hunter this year. Alize would definitely be at W although I'd love to see some sets where we have ESB/W, Claypool/Z and Alize as split out TE. I think we will use some bunch/trips sets with those three to create big time mismatches.

I believe Deon McIntosh has been playing slot (Z) also.

Just thought I'd mention how ridiculous this kids rankings are. He has offers from Alabama, Florida, Tenessee, Auburn, Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan State, Virgina Tech. He has over 40 offers and he is ranked the #106 WR and up in the 700's overall. He's a great athlete, decent size, plays top tier ball and flies by everybody and is obviously the best player on the field. Why in the F is this?

just remember that just because they have an "offer" doesn't mean they would be allowed to commit

Ugh. Pouncey liked an Andrew Ivins tweet mentioning that the Denbrock news could be good news for Pouncey and Miami.

Sorry, on my phone and don't know how to embed.

All it says is that it could help. He's also liked, posted, and retweeted a bunch of ND things tonight.

Good. Thanks for that. We really need to hang on to this one. I've thought about it and I'm not really that concerned about him flipping. He's stated more than once that it's about the school itself more than anything. Doesn't really mention coaches a lot. I think Denson has had a big hand in the recruiting as well as Kelly at II. We need X WR's and I'm worried we won't land Martin or Calvin.

Seems like he's getting a lot of pressure to stay home and by the end of the cycle might be too much to get him to South bend

Both Wiltfong and Loy have said they don't expect him to be in ND's class.

They both flipped their CB's to Miami.

All the WR recruiting either gave Miami enough ammo to point out that ND didn't see him as the impact player they did

or

ND kept over recruiting the WR position because they never felt comfortable with his commit.

Either way, if he indeed has already made up his mind, all those syrupy tweets yesterday w/ the ND love are gonna look pretty foolish.

I have absolutely nothing to base this on but my gut, but I never felt comfortable with his commitment.

What's hilarious is he posted this last night.

Not sure I buy that. Including Pouncey, ND has two WR commitments in this class... one of which is clearly a slot receiver. ND recruiting more receivers has nothing to do with Pouncey, they simple need more bodies at the position. I just think Pouncey always loved Miami and would rather stay closer to home.

Wow. Yup, would definitely look mighty foolish if he flipped. If Loy and Wiltfong CB him to Miami, he's more than likely going to Miami. I hope we don't overreach for some project kids. We can always get after it hard in '18 for some tops kids. Considering the lack of '17 WR's, '18 WR's (typically very interested in early playing time) will probably be very interested in ND especially with its line and QB's. I'm not too worried.
