Woody Barrett is building a nice offer list and now has added Notre Dame. The 2016 quarterback said he was excited to find out the Irish had offered.
“I was thinking to myself, ‘It’s a blessing.’ It’s an honor to be offered by Notre Dame, most people don’t get a Notre Dame offer,” he said.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound athlete knows Notre Dame could be a place he could grow and thrive.
“I think it’s a good school, they develop good quarterbacks,” Barrett said.
Barrett was also able to speak with Notre Dame running backs coach Tony Alford to solidify his Irish offer.
“He was just telling me they’re going to recruit me hard,” he said.
Barrett said he hasn’t yet thought about taking a visit to South Bend.

Orlando (Fla.) West Orange three-star quarterback Woody Barrett has a Top 5 of Oklahoma, Florida, Ohio State, Auburn and Alabama, but it's another school that's not on his initial shortlist that he's hearing about all the time.

Saturday at the Orlando Rivals Speed & Skill Challenge, Barrett explained that his high school running back Dexter Williams is doing what he can to recruit the nation's No. 16 ranked quarterback to Notre Dame.

Williams - who signed with the Irish last month - has spent much of the past few weeks giving his own recruiting pitch to Barrett, and that's a good thing for Notre Dame following the departure of running backs coach Tony Alford, who recruited Orlando.

With Alford now at Ohio State, Barrett said he's had limited contact with new Notre Dame running backs coach Autry Denson.

"He followed me on Twitter, but I haven't heard from him yet," Barrett said. "[With Williams] when we're in school he tries to feed me and tell me how he's going to recruit me there and stuff.

While it's not the ideal situation to have Williams leading the charge for Notre Dame, the relationship between the two players has served as a temporary brace and kept some interest level while Denson gets in place.

Barrett said he has unofficial visits lined up to both Alabama and Auburn in the coming weeks, and is also expected see Florida.

When asked if he was considering a trip to South Bend at some point in the process, Barrett made it clear that it was a possibility.

"If I can," Barrett said. "Every school I visit is a great opportunity, because a lot of student athletes look to get recruited by top colleges and sometimes it doesn't work like that. So every school I visit, and every opportunity that comes my way, I'm going to go for it."

Orlando (Fla.) West Orange four-star quarterback Woody Barrett took to Twitter today to list a new top five and the Irish made the cut.

Notre Dame, along with Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, Alabama and Oklahoma, made the cut for the nation's No. 5 overall dual-threat signal-caller.

West Orange high school may sound familiar. That is where class of 2015 Notre Dame running back signee Dexter Williams came from. The two are good friends.

Per 247Sports, Barrett is the No. 160 overall player in the country, No. 5 dual-threat quarterback nationally and No. 22 prospect in Florida from the class of 2016.
