Had to watch the game on replay, but worth the time. Miami really charged up the whole game --- really wanted it, but we just muted them. Several things:
A). Coach was great. She invented a 1-2-2 match-up zone, which the announcers never figured out. Miami wasn't much better. Loyd was the top most of the time, but when Mabrey was in she was surprisingly good at it. The Genius of the thing, though, was [you guessed it] Madison Cable. What a stellar [and completely uncommented-upon] performance at stuffing one whole side of the floor when we were in the 1-2-2. Madison anticipated proper position well before Miami got there, and there was nothing available for them on her side --- they even started drifting their offense to the opposite side when we were in that thing. I love great zone defense and that was a treat.
B). We were really strong with the ball. Only Kate Westbeld still needs to improve on that. But she's a very confident player and I'm really optimistic about her in the future. [like NEXT year]. Brianna Turner is one of the great foolers of all time. Her hands are freaky, not because they are so strong [I think that she's rather average on that scale], but because she has the "magic" of being able to flick and stab and pluck basketballs out of the most crowded violent traffic in the air. Quite astonishingly weird.
C). It was interesting to see Muffet insert Mabrey and Huffman at times when we needed to max out ball security. Huffman adds a LOT of toughness as well, and surprisingly Michaela was veteran-solid" on that too --- maybe we're peaking on toughness just in time. Allen had her moments but just an OK game --- better in "game time" in the second half; but despite the slow start by Jewell and Lindsay's "so-so", we really just were better than they were. Taya Reimer seems to have decided that she's just as tough as anybody and is throwing some weight around --- if she had better feet, she'd go all-american on some of these teams.
Who knows how we'll do vs Duke. Who knows if either team will be tired --- Muffet was worried a bit about that after the game. But I'll bet we're ready enough, and just maybe it's time for a Mabrey explosion --- she's due.

Notre Dame, competing as the No. 1 seed in its conference tournament for the fourth consecutive year, improved to
40-19 all-time in 28 total league tourneys (Horizon, BIG EAST and ACC).
With 16 points in Friday’s win, ACC Player of the Year Jewell Loyd of Notre Dame posted her 91st career double-figure
scoring game and her 30th in 31 games this season.
Lloyd now ranks seventh on Notre-Dame’s all-time scoring list with 1,774 points. She passed Alicia Ray (1,763 from
1999-2003) during Friday’s game.
Notre Dame’s Brianna Turner delivered 13 points and 10 rebounds on Friday, giving the ACC Freshman of the Year
seven double-doubles in her inaugural college season. Turner scored in double figures for the 21st time this season
and had double-figure rebounds for the eighth time.
With 13 points on Friday, Notre Dame sophomore forward Taya Reimer reached double figures in scoring for the
fourth consecutive game and 15th times this season.
Madison Cable’s 13 points gave the Notre Dame senior 17 double-figure scoring games for her career, including eight
this season.
Notre Dame freshman Kathryn Westbeld’s 10 points marked her ninth double-figure scoring game of the season and
her first since scoring 12 at Boston College on Feb. 8

The Last Time Notre Dame and Duke Met
No. 4 Notre Dame rode Jewell Loyd's leadership, smothering defense and clutch three-point shooting to beat Duke.
The Fighting Irish won their 10th consecutive game, topping the No. 10/11 Blue Devils, 63-50 on Feb. 16, 2015, at Purcell Pavilion.
Duke came out strong, building a 14-5 lead over the first 5:31. The Blue Devils, who led the nation in rebounding margin, asserted themselves early on the offensive glass, grabbing the game's first six rebounds. They outrebounded the Fighting Irish 45-37, and Notre Dame scored well below their season average of 84.9 points.
But Notre Dame eventually heated up from beyond the arc, hitting nine threes, nearly double their 5.1-per-game average.
Loyd made four of her eight three-point attempts, while Duke missed all 12 of its tries. It was the first time this season that Duke went scoreless from beyond the arc.
Reserves Madison Cable and Kathryn Westbeld help put the brakes on that fast Duke start. Cable finished with six rebounds and nine points, including a three-pointer from the corner as the shot clock expired coming out of a first-half media timeout, giving Notre Dame its first lead of the game at 20-19.
The Fighting Irish went on a 14-5 run over the final 10:17 of the first half to take a 34-24 lead into the break. During that stretch, Duke hit just two of nine attempts from the field.
A 6-0 Duke run to start the second half trimmed the lead to 34-30 but a 11-0 Fighting Irish spurt over a 4:02 span gave Notre Dame its largest lead at 19 with 11:05 left.
Elizabeth Williams led Duke with 18 points.
