Early in the game I was quite worried. There seemed to be no defense being played by either team, which is exactly what you don't want if you're a more polished team. But Muffet somehow must have gotten through to the girls and they were lights out defensively for quite a while.
Once again we took away the opponent's core cog [Romero] for the most part. It was a treat seeing the sequence where the announcers were talking about the need to force Romero to her left every time, and then seeing Madison do it every time --- she's the most underrated player in the ACC [didn't get ANY consideration for the "Sixth Player" award.]
Jewell of course was the star again, with a good bit of help from her ball-passing sisters who delivered some of the most beautiful "Princeton Offense Backdoors" you'll see in any game. Turner and Reimer held up very well on the boards, and we were the better conditioned team --- watch how bent over FSU was near the end and then see Jewell, Lindsay, Brianna, and Madison standing straight up like soldiers --- I'll admit that Taya was gassed just like FSU.
We should not only get a #1 [obviously], but I'll bet that FSU and Duke get twos. Maryland should play Tennessee as the 1 and 2 in one region [I'm assuming that So Carolina wins the SEC game.] That would put Connecticut vs one of the ACCs, and South Carolina vs the other. That means we'd get whoever is the "other" non-ACC non-SEC team as our region's #2. I've not been following the national scene --- is that somebody like Baylor? My guess is that the highest ACC team to appear in our region would be someone like Louisville or UNC or Miami. We might just roll.
