visit went well, he really likes Denbrock and he thought Elston did a nice job explaining the scheme. He'll visit but doesn't know when.

He called it a "why-not visit." A place like ND you have to check out for yourself if you have the opportunity.

Sounds like we have to blow him away on the visit, or else he stays in SoCal. UCLA coming on STRONG. Sent 4 coaches out for an in-home.

I do feel like this is progressing but I think we just won't have the time. A for effort but C for timing.

Yeah, it kind of sounds like he just wants to have the experience of taking the trip. We'll really have to show him something to sway him.

To me one of the interesting comments was about our defense. He said he liked the 3-4. I had been reading that he thinks of himself as more of a 4-3 tackle. Wonder if Elston was doing a good job explaining it and getting him excited or it was lip service to a reporter

In case Elston didn't, someone tweet hit the difference. Quick!

As we all know, anything can happen when you get someone on ND's campus. I just wish his mom was coming along and it was during the regular season with the leaves just turning... but I'll take it!

Redfield is yours to lose.

Slim chance with Eddie though. He wants to take his trips, and has been encouraged to do so. USC has to be the last visit - the only stipulation made.

Loves Coach O, but if he leaves USC (just made Asst HC)...it would be UCLA.

i don't see this ending the way we want it to. if his last visit is January 16th that doesn't give us much time to set one up and it'll be hard to "wow" him while we are preparing for the biggest game this programs had in the past 50 years. feel free to change my mind, but that's just the way i see it.

It's easy. Set his visit for January 8, 2013. Direct him to crystal ball. Case closed.

This....
If you can't WOW a kid either "while" you're prepping, or after you've won the NC...... he's not coming anyway.

This is a very ignorant and unnecessary comment...This is the reason members like myself follow instead of contribute...

Yup... like I said a couple days ago in another thread, the only scenario where I see Eddie coming to ND is:

1. Notre Dame beats 'Bama in the championship.
2. Eddie has an amazing OV in South Bend in the middle of winter.
3. Something negative happens at USC (coaching change, embarrassing bowl performance, rash of decommits, etc.)

So the odds are very slim right now and we won't know better until after his visit (assuming he follows through and takes it).

I don't think it's as much of a long shot, but I base that on notihng more than my opinion.

We're the smart, sexy girl who's going places. He's currently dating the used-to-be hot girl who's life is falling apart. Plus. he's already planning to go on a date with the new girl.

We have a good chance I think.

Do you really think it's all about winning or losing to these kids? All these highly ranked kids think that they will be the ones that will make the difference, they will be the ones to bring a great program back.

Don't underestimate the draw of the home school that several generations of players dreamed of playing for, regardless of wins and losses. There are advantages to staying close to home, playing in front of family..with the 2nd largest media market just 3 miles away off campus.

I can't blame a kid for being drawn to the mystique that surrounds Notre Dame, and I would feel no anger or envy if a kid is swayed to South Bend.

+1. Ole-freaking-Miss is about to land the #1 recruit in the whole country + Laquon Treadwell. If it was all about winning, that would never happen.

The double-edged sword is that UCLA actually has a coach now... and kids have to be wary of Kiffin. He and Ed O are without a doubt GREAT recruiters and salesmen... but Lane was largely a laughing stock this whole year between all the different shenanigans and petulant episodes. Kids have to wonder how he squandered a pre-season #1 team to completely unranked and under-utilized so much talent.

While a lot of the Cali talent will likely stay at USC, I wouldn't be surprised to see some look at UCLA. And I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the out of state kids look around... although it's pretty clear Ty Isaac sees himself at USC and Kenny Bigelow is... well... we all know about Eastern Christian Academy.

No, but it sure helps. Just look at the interest ND is getting. I mean, is happiness all about having money? No, but it makes it a lot easier.

When did I underestimate them? I mean, he's currently committed to USC. They lead.

I'm saying that ND has a better chance than people seem to think. You have his commitment, we have all of the momentum. Never underestimate the big MO.

BTW, tough sell from a coach who's on the hot seat to tell the kid 'you could be part of the puzzle to bring us back to glory. 'Umm, yeah coach, are you even going to be here?'. And if you don't think Kiffen's on a short leash next year, well, I just don't agree.

Oh I don't know, I kinda like those odds. We've beaten them so far this year.

I agree that there are some that will want to play for the local school, but there is only one school that will play on TV every week to a national audience.
