He camped at Pitt a year ago and got a verbal offer. He's been to Rutgers so far this year. Same HS as 2011 RB Jameel Poteat, former Pitt RB Lesean McCoy, and former ND WR Raki Nelson.

He's got a lot of talent, only had 7 sacks last year but was always double teamed. Most think he'll end up being a national prospect when all is said and done. Rushel Shell from Hopewell (Pittsburgh area/David Posluszny) is supposed probably the best PA prospect since Terrelle Pryor, and could be even better. Shell plays running back. I'm hoping the Irish go hard after both of those guys but I believe I read somewhere that Shell has grade issues?

This guy is supposed to be the real deal. Likely be an OLB in the 3-4

He plans on attending ND's junior day in late February. Also, he was recently named to the Army All-American game.

Kid seems to be the real deal. Our depth at OLB might be actually hurt us here., since we are bringing in Councel, Rabasa and Ishaq this year.

Doesn't hurt schools like USC who recruit a bajillion 5* QBs and WRs. If we have a big year next year, expect another very solid class with spots being at an absolute premium.

As long as you win football games. You will attract top players. The end.

Take it FWIW, but from a poster on ESPN:

Spence is a 5 star DE at Bishop McDevitt in Harrisburg PA. The "number 1 must get for Penn State". He has offers from ND, Tennesee, USC among many others.

Anyway, I spotted him at the Hershey Bears hockey game on Saturday wearing an ND cap.

Good sign. :)

ESPN.com - NCAA - Notre Dame Fighting Irish Message Board

Doesn't it only mean something if his Dad is wearing the hat? Should we check to see if he was wearing another hat underneath?

Mods on ISD seem to think we have a real good shot with this kid. If we add him and continue to add elite talent on defense, we're going to be dangerous.

I was expecting him to get 5 star status. Guys is a beast. Don't think he picks ND but he is worth the effort

When are you starting your recruiting list? That thing was a life saver.

Its gonna be a while, gotta get back into recruiting 1st and most kids are still feeling it out. Don't feel like making a list with 100 names on it, but i'll make one, don't stress

I watched Noah play twice this year during the regular season and the playoffs. He's definitely a versatile talent. Regardless of what others think, I think it helps that Bishop McDevitt has a history of sending players to ND.

If he comes, it would be amazing. It means he isn't afraid of competition and that our DE's would be fighting at all times for PT.

Per ESPN:

Tom Knauer writes on PennLive.com that Penn State's No. 1 target in the class of 2012 is ESPNU 150 Watch List DE Noah Spence of Pennsylvania, but Barton Simmons of 247Sports.com says that the Nittany Lions face some heated competition for Spence.

Spence -- the No. 1 DE in the country according to Scout.com and the No. 6 overall player -- said that Florida is recruiting him the hardest right now (could he play alongside or succeed Ronald Powell?), with Auburn, Alabama and Penn State also putting forth their best efforts. Spence is not even close to narrowing his list down, with visits to Gainesville, Auburn and Columbia, S.C., among other destinations, on the docket for the summer.

Spence's high school, Bishop McDevitt in Harrisburg, produced former Notre Dame RB Ricky Watters, former Pitt RB LeSean McCoy and former Pitt commit RB Jameel Poteat, who ended up at Cincinnati after Dave Wannstedt was fired. But Penn State has not signed a McDevitt player since 2001, so there may be a disconnect there.

Just get us into the top 5 with a OV. We have a good chance of having a better year than Auburn, UF, and Penn St....

Just watched an interview with him on the local news. He was interviewed because he was invited to play in the US Army All-American game. He came off as a very mature individual. He looks big for not even being a senior yet.

Thanks for the update...he's been pretty quiet.
