Thank God Notre Dame has decided to recruit some offensive linemen in the class of '11.
This guy is a monster- 6'7, 260 lbs., plays offensive tackle, runs a 5.0 fourty yard dash, has a 25 inch vertical, from Chicago (Benet Academy). Went to the U.S. Army All American Combine and went 7-2 in their one-on-ones. Check out the video below (he starts at 1:16-1:59). Tom Lemming is all over the kid and I guess he's started on the varsity level at left tackle since his sophomore season. Has interest from everyone (ND, Michigan, Iowa, Indiana, Miami (FL), Tennessee, Alabama, Nebraska, Arizona, Illinois, Northwestern, Stanford, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Michigan State, Kansas State, Louisville, Miami (OH), Colorado, Colorado State, and Iowa State). He was the O-Line MVP of the regional Schuman's National Underclassmen Combine, went to the Midwest one and was placed in the top ten linemen in the Midwest for his class. Attended the Schuman's National Underclassmen Combine at the University of Oklahoma and did well there I heard, then moved on to San Antonio for the U.S. Army Combine there. He was selected as a 7-A All-State Member in Illinois, was All-Conferance in the East Suburban Catholic Conference he played in, and was also a member of the Tom Lemming All-Area Team in Chicago. The kid's got mad skills and Brian Kelly has Chuck Martin all over him. Thank goodness. Guess his older bro, Bill Flavin, is on the Notre Dame team already as a long-snapper, so that can't hurt with ND's chances with him. Heard he took an unofficial visit to ND for the UConn game back in the fall. He'll be at their junior day so look out!

Check out his junior year highlight tape on RIVALS.com:

A lot like Brendon Austin who was just offered, but taller. Look for ND to offer Flavin in the near future.

Adding walk ons that have offers is always nice. Freeman comes to mind two years ago, didnt really know about this guys brother, but im guessing he was a true walk on, not a preferred?

Get him as a walk on too?! That is crazy!!!!!! Flavin would never come to ND as walk-on!!! Look, this kid is big-time, and losing him means Notre Dame and the Brian Kelly regime can't recruit big-name guys in their own backyard. If all ND has to offer is a walk-on or preferred walk-on, just watch and see Flavin "walk-on out" on them and head somewhere where he will be appreciated- LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Miami, Iowa.... ND hasn't even proven themselves to be legitimate yet, if they offer him a walk-on spot, he's goin to a program he already knows can win. Look, ND needs this kid, and it pays that he's from Chicago. Kelly needs to establish himself in Chi-town just as much as he needs to establish himself in Ohio, like Charlie Weis did. Flavin isn't some 5-7, 135 lbs. Rudy jiggafini19! He's a gigantic pancaking machine. Watch his highlight tape. He's for real so it's about time ND stopped offerin guys in CA and FL they've got no shot in getting and start looking at a kid like Flavin who is right in front of their noses! Kelly needs a big-time first class, well here's a worthy candidate. If ND loses this kid, especially with his family history at ND, they are in BIG trouble.

Ummmm.....wow. Where to start? Over-exaggerate much? Look, obviously you are a family member or a troll. But let's look at this objectively:

1. He's a 3 star OT with (so far) zero major offers. He's ONE kid. Losing him means we either didn't offer him or he didn't choose us, and NOTHING more. It doesn't mean that the Kelly regime is doomed or they can't recruit their own backyard, and it absolutely doesn't mean ND is in 'big' trouble. That's ridiculous. Again, it's one kid, and not everyone thinks he's a can't miss prospect like you do. In fact, the one recruiting service that did evaluate him has him as a 3-star, hardly a 'can't miss' in their eyes. Now, things could change, and these services are often wrong, but still, you are over-exaggerating waaaayyyyy too much here.

2. Stop recruiting FL and CA because we have no shot with those kids??? WTF? Are you for real? Yeah, recruiting CA is a big waste of time, just ask Jimmy Clausen, Dayne Crist, Shaq Evans, Justin Utopo, etc etc. Same thing with FL. What a waste of time! Just ask Armando Allen, Lo Wood, Sam Young, Cowart, Spencer Boyd, Zeke Motta, etc etc. Those guys NEVER come to ND!

3. Why don't we wait until everything shakes out instead of dealing in such absolutes in FEBRUARY. We just got done with NSD and you are already signaling the end of the Kelly regime b/c he hasn't offered one kid (who btw, got an invite to ND's jr day). If he's as good as you say, he'll get his offer. If not, he'll have to prove it during other camps and during his sr year. Until them take a deep breath and let the kid do his thing.

And to think, you're calling this the end of the Kelly era b/c one anonymous poster said he could walk on at ND. Relax...

Maybe Chuck Martin and Kelly will see what you and the rest of Pat's friends and family see - and what 119 Div 1 schools apparently are overlooking. Despite Pat's interest in "LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Miami, Iowa...." so far his only Div 1 offer is Ball St.

Speaking of "in their own backyards", neither Northwestern nor NIU have offered. He's what, 10 miles from one and 20 from the other?

It's early in the recruiting cycle, through combines, camps, and his senior season he may generate those BIG offers you allude to, so far he hasn't.

IF anyone wants to debate Kelly's/ND recruiting philosophy take it to the Notre Dame Football Recruiting Forum and open a thread. If you have info on Pat Flavin or wish to discuss him, post it here.

Believe it or not, I actually go to the same school as him and he isn't quite 6-7 or 260.
Was the best player for benet last fall, but the team isn't good so i don't know what that says. Defenately is an RKG, but might not be the best player. Smart kid too!

"Isn't quite 6-7 or 260"?

What's the basis for your comment?

Based on measurement? Seeing him on the football field? Passing him in the hallway? He told you?

Reported Ht and Wt:
6-7 260 Rivals
6-7 260 Scout
6-6 240 ESPN
6-7 245 Benet Academy'09 Football Roster

Forget any thought of his walking on, Flavin's no longer a "MAC" prospect. He's picked up a big time offer from UCLA. There will be others.

Flavin plans to camp at ND UM and UCLA. Picked up an offer from Illinois at their Family Day last weekend. He also has offers from Ball St and UCLA.

Flavin came to ND's Jr Day but didn't pick up an offer. ND has more than a half dozen offers out to OTs and Pat faces a numbers game. He'll be back and might earn an offer this summer through a camp visit.

Pat Flavin's up to 10 offers. Pretty impressive for somebody people were thinking would be a walk-on. He's added offers from Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, Oregon St, Purdue and Toledo. Only two of his offers aren't from BCS schools.

Scout's noticed, they rank him as a 3 Star, #30 OT. That's about where Duncan and Turkovich were ranked as Seniors.

Scout's Top 25 OTs are 4 Stars. He's close.

Pat's facing the same problem as Tony Springmann. He's offered a bunch of OTs and most are heavier at this point. Perhaps summer camp and/or a great senior season will get him his ND offer.

OK ND needs to get going on this guy. He's up to over 20 offers from the likes of Arizona, Baylor, BC, Cal, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, NC State, Oregon, Oregon State, Purdue, UCF, UCLA, and Indiana. He's got more offers from the Pac-10 than the Big10 for cryin out loud! It's a shame that ND hasn't offered this kid yet with his brother on the team and the obvious interest on his part. Chicago needs to be one of ND's strongest recruiting areas, and its seems like they have been lacking as of late. He's ranked at #30 OT in the nation by Scout, but he'll keep rising with the big time offers he's pullin in. The Sun Times ranked him at #1 OT and #6 overall in IL, and EdgyTim (Rivals IL) ranks him at #1 OT and #9 overall in IL. The offers he's getting are from the best OL schools in the country, with Oregon OL coach Greatwood at Best OL Coach in country last year and BC as an O-Line factory. With the coast-to-coast attention this guys pulling in, ND should be feeling the pressure to jump on him and not let him get away to California or Boston. Plus, ND still needs tackles! They've got Prestwood and Hegarty who are legitimate, but Springmann is a guard who might play DT, and Hanratty is the Jake Golic of this year's class. I think Chuck Martin better think twice about waiting any longer to get him, because word on the street is he's been getting interest from Nebraska, Michigan, Oklahoma, SC, and Florida. Steve Addazio might come up to his school to check him out.

We got two blue chip left tackles in Prestwood and Hegarty. Hanratty will probably swith to the inside. Unless the staff projects Flavin as a right tackle, we are set.

hey shakedown,

i believe that "this years golic" as you referred to Hanratty(#9 tackle in the nation) had an offer from the very same BC O-line factory you championed. please get a clue.

Uhhh, what? Please use your brain and look at the offer list comparison, scout / rivals rankings/evals, and most write ups about Hanratty.

Scout.com: Athletic O-Tackle Has Opened Eyes

Free Scout article? About time...

While Flavin claims to have no top 4 or 5 at this point in time, he would not say that certain schools do not stand out.

“There are definitely a handful of schools that are popping out right now. I hope to start compiling a shorter list later this summer, but as of right now, I have my eyes set on several.”

Which schools are getting the longest look from the offensive tackle?

UCLA - “I think Coach Neuheisel is a great guy, and I have had an assistant at my high school a couple of different times. I hope to make it out there this summer. There is a certain appeal there because I would be playing on the west coast.”

Cal-Berkeley - “I would like to visit out there this summer as well. They have the west coast appeal too, and it is just a great school.”

Miami (FL) - “They have not offered yet, but if they do, they will be right up there. They have a lot of tradition down there, and I like what they are doing.”

Notre Dame – “My brother is a walk-on there, and I have had several family members attend Notre Dame. It is one of the most famous football schools out there, and the tradition is really neat.”

Doesn't sound sold on ND yet.

This kid's come a long way from offers from Ball St and Toledo. He's got 3 dozen offers from coast to coast with at least one offer from every major conference. Looking at his RANKING he still has a ways to go and he's working on it. Last week he camped at Michigan with no offer yet and he will camp at ND this month looking for the offer he craves.

Flavin still sorting through the offers
By Chris Pool
6/14
Pat Flavin (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) is one of the most sought after OTs in the Midwest. He has over three dozen offers, including Illinois, UCLA, Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, NC State and Washington. What the 6-foot-7, 265-pounder does not have is a favorite right now. "I don't have a top anything right now, nor do I have a leader," he said. "As far as camp plans, I'm going to Notre Dame on Thursday and then I'm done."

If Kelly offers him at camp, he'll get an answer before he finishes the sentence.

Wide disparity in evaluation. Flavin dropped 12 slots at Scout and 18 and ESPN. Rivals still lists him about the same as Duncan and Turkovich were ranked.
