Sumlin to A&M. I like Sumlin a lot. I wonder though how great of a fit he is there right now. I mean they just fired another offensive guru. The problem was defense. Not saying Sumlin can't do better than Sherman, but what, exactly, does he bring to the table that Mike Sherman didn't?

I updated the chart in the OP, http://www.irishenvy.com/forums/oth...coaching-carousel-scorecard-5.html#post601716

25 HC jobs have changed or are in the process of changing. Up from last year's 23.

By my count there are still 10 open:
AKR
ASU
Ark St
CSU
Fresno
UHI
HOU
PSU
TOL
USM

Most of the candidates floated about for these jobs seem to be college or NFL assistants or unemployed coaches. ASU and PSU will get bigger names.

Schools that could lose a HC to bigger program include BU, LOU, MIA, NW and UVA.

ASU looks lost during this coaching search. My gut says they make another bad hire.

CSU to hire Bama OC McElwain

CSU to hire Bama OC McElwain

Report: Colorado State to hire Bama OC McElwain - CBSSports.com

12/12Posted by Adam Jacobi

Colorado State has reportedly found its new head coach. According to the Denver Post, CSU will hire Jim McElwain, Alabama's offensive coordinator. The contract is estimated to be a five-year deal, worth $1.5 million per year. McElwain will replace Steve Fairchild, who was ousted earlier in December.

The deal represents a substantial step up in both salary and prestige for the 49-year-old McElwain; this will be his first head coaching gig at any level, as he worked his way through the collegiate assistant ranks after graduating. Additionally, McElwain's salary will be nearly tripled from the $510,000 per year he was making at Alabama.

Glad to see Col St. make that move. I know the Alford rumors were just rumors, but its a little relief.

Gus Malzahn to Arkansas (STATE). SMH. What happened to this guy? He was the sexiest name last year with every opening, now this?

guy has a tremendous gig there.

Yes, he does. I posted last year when he name came up that he wasn't going anywhere. He's got a lifetime job IF he wants it.

He's 85-7 in 7 seasons winning 92.4% of his games. He's had two perfect seasons, and 4 one loss seasons. '07 was his worse season losing 3 games while still winning 10. He's won 10 games a year 7 years in a row, every season he's been a head coach.

BSU's schedule has something to do with that as this year Sagarin ranks them with the 73rd toughest schedule. By contrast ND played the 20th toughest schedule a full touchdown tougher per opponent than BSU. Next year BSU opens with Michigan St and has Miami OH and BYU in Sept. I believe they still play a Mountain West schedule so their schedule won't toughen up appreciably next year.

In '13 they open with UW and have BYU again in Sept. I'm guessing they start a Big East schedule that year so there will be a modest upgrade if they're playing UC, USF, HOU but still not a tough schedule. Their schedule with probably fall around 50th toughest but still a set up for 10 wins.
