It has to help with Martin, he won't feel so lonely as a DL recruit now.

Hendrix's already offered to help reduce Martin's role as Chief Cheerleadr.

Now Lueders can save Martin a trip to Chapel Hill. Lueders went there before he made his short list.

According to Rivals profile Lueders has upped his bench from 310 to 335 and his squat from 430 to 470.

He's 2 months from starting his senior year of HS at 6-5 250.

He currently outweights Kerry Neal 246, and is 5 pounds lighter than Richardson and Wade both college Seniors. He's about 15 pounds lighter than KLM and Ryan.

Lueders will arrive on campus as a freshman the size of upper classmen DEs.

Ethan Johnson, now 275, was 265 as a commit. KLM was 225.

Lueders will have the size to play as a freshman.

He will have the size, but that isn't all it takes. Look at Braxton Cave for example. Size and strength galore, but lacks experience. Anyway, still an unexpected pickup and outstanding considering the DL recruiting as of late.....

On rivals there is a blurb about an elite dt camping at ND, can't read it, anybody know, are they talking about Nix?

Me too! Just got back from playing futbol, errrr I mean, I just got back from lifting very heavy weights, and this news has me psyched!!! For those of you old enough to remember those C&R commercials...what a difference a day makes (24 little hours)!!! Yesterday 2 horrible bits of news, today 2 fantastic bits of news. (I'm a grown-ass man; I've got to stop following recruiting, LOL!)

Attaboy CW and the fellas, keep 'em coming!

Which is why I limited the comment to size. I'll wait to see his Senior campaign and how his development continues.

Look at Braxton Cave for example. Size and strength galore, but lacks experience.

Did you really mean to pick Braxton Cave who was on the field Opening Day as a true freshman? He was injured in that game as a LS and didn't play again. OLs tradtionally see the field later than DLs in general. Jeff Faine who was a beast at Center but didn't see the field until his sophomore year. I can't recall an ND Center that started as a freshman.

As for experience what freshman doesn't lack it???

Ross Browner and Willie Fry started at DE as true freshman. Kory Minor was a 4 year starter at DE. Anthony Weaver was a freshman starter at DE. There are more. And lest we forget Ethan Johnson who missed his senior HS season due to an injury but started as a freshman DE.

Lueders may not be able to beat out upperclassman for PT as a freshman but he won't have to sit out like KLM to get size. And like Browner, Fry, Weaver, Minor, and Johnson if he's good enough to play he'll get PT.

As for strength Lueders who is a DE, not an OL like Cave, actually has as good or better numbers than DE Ethan Johnson and OL Trevor Robinson had when they signed as Seniors. Robinson started 3 games as a freshman. Lueders is almost benching as much now as Ian Williams when he signed. Ian who lacked experience started 11 games as a freshman DT.

Lueders still has 8 months to go to LOI day.

Anyway, still an unexpected pickup and outstanding considering the DL recruiting as of late.....

Unexpected pickup???

He was on his 3rd trip to ND. His decision was expected near term. ND was a leader for this kid.

ND has done significantly better at DL in recent years than OT. Yes ND missed on a couple of 5 Star DTs but we brought in a pretty fair haul despite the few who wavered.

Maybe not unexpected but certianly a surprise. I was hoping to see an article on him committing yesterday and instead get the Chris Martin news. Then Michael Jackson dies and im thinking this is some bullshit. I get on the computer and see that Hednrix commited so im excited i get off of work, come home, take a shower. Get online and see Blake Leuders commits and it was awesome. I yelled out LEWDDAASS (like Ludacris yells Luda but with an s at the end). Get used to it now.

Ahh, I'll go with what the jason fella reported earlier in this thread. I'll leave you to argue with him.

Rivals Jake Brown is reporting that Leuders will make a visit to Notre Dame on Tuesday. He said he wanted to commit before July so hopefully this is good news.

He beat the July date by 6 days. Who would have thunk it? After only 3 campus visits. What tho the odds?

Scouts Inc: There is plenty of talent that just missed the cut in the first version of the 2010 ESPNU 150 - ESPN

Throughout the coming months, players will move in and out of the ESPNU 150. Here's a list of guys who just missed the cut the first time around but could be poised to make the jump at some point
...

Defensive end Blake Lueders (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville)
An athletic big man, Lueders has mainly played out of position at linebacker in high school. His size and skills are better projected for defensive end. He's tough and has physical tools to develop at the next level. Lueders is committed to Notre Dame.

Lueders came to ND on an unofficial visit yesterday, and talked to some of the recruits. Apparently the visit went well, per ISD...
