Matt will be the #1 QB in CA next year a quite possibly the #1 QB in the country, so I would expect him to get an Irish offer at some point, and he is also the reason that many USC fans claim that losing Dayne Crist wasn't a big deal because many of them feel that it's a forgone conclusion that Matt will become a Trojan.

He also already has verbal offers from Colorado, and Florida St.

Matt's dad attended USC and he played water polo, and swam, so Matt admittedly grew up a Trojan fan but he has said that won't effect him too much, and that he is going to try to keep all his options open. As of right now it looks as though the top teir of schools for Matt include USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, and LSU. Then they would be followed by Cal, Stanford, Ohio State, Nebraska, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and Hawaii.

Do you really think we'll offer another QB even when we'll have very limited scholarships next year?

I wouldn't be suprised if one or two were offererd given the chances of one of the current QB possibly transfering, and, or a '09 recruit fitting the criteria of he's so good you'll take him if he'll come, ala Dayne Crist.

From everything I've heard he is at the elite national level, so I wouldn't think that would be too much of a strech putting him in the conversation given that he is just finishing his Soph. year of high school, and he still has two full seasons to play in high school.

---------He says he's not a lock, but he's as close to it as you can imagen. This is Barkley on his visit to USC and meeting with The Poodle....

"Then he told me he was offering me a scholarship and I couldn't believe it. He didn't pressure me for a commitment or anything and that's not something I'm even close to doing right now.

"USC is at the top of my list but I'm still going to go through the process and I don't see myself making a commitment until before my senior year. Things can change but I'm open to everyone recruiting me and still plan to take several unofficial visits this August.

"I've always dreamed about playing for them," Barkley said. "I remember doing the victory sign when I was in school and singing the fight song all the time. My dad went there so I've grown up rooting for SC."

"It would be a good fit for me and they have had a lot of success with their quarterbacks recently, but honestly, I'm not a lock to go there, I'm really not. "

Nebraska and Tennessee have offered, joining USC, Cal, Washington, Stanford, Hawaii, Colorado and Florida State. I think it's safe to say he'll be the #1 QB next year. Stanford offered this early? hmm

Matt was just named #1 atop the Rivals 100 for 2009. Even if another player overtook him from now until NSD in 2009, he would likely remain the top QB prospect.

Living in Trojanland, I would laugh hysterically if we landed not one, not two, but three of the top quaterbacks in the nation that live in USC territory, three years in a row.

I think you would have alot of USC fans crying all the way to group therapy.

Just for giggles, I think he should commit to us.

Do not expect this kid to come to SB. Great thought, but not likely. Dayne will likely redshirt this coming season, which means we have a 5star QB on the roster all the way thru 2012. There is a kid in Carmel, IN that looks interesting. Morgan Newton from Carmel looks like a multi faceted athlete. Maybe we take him to play WR and QB

From an article on a Stanford site about last week's Crespi-Mater Dei game:

After watching Matt Barkley for the third time, it is interesting to consider his abridged posted offer list in the Scout data base- USC, Cal, Florida, NE, Stanford, TN & UCLA. All other than Florida are what I would describe as more traditional pro style pocket passer systems. To this point, I would love to hear Harbaugh wax philosophical about the style of offense he hopes to establish at Stanford. I have no sense we are pining to be the next Oregon and hoping to attract a Dennis Dixon-type athlete to pass and run, but who knows? If this is the goal, Matt Barkley may not be the best fit. Matt Barkley has exceptional arm strength, reads quickly, makes good decisions and delivers the ball accurately. He has the complete confidence of his teammates and coaches. Barkley didn't master the mental part of the game without work and commitment. Nonetheless, he does need time and his ability to "create time" on his own with his feet is limited. In last night's game, the only contest where I saw him being pressured, his limitations/ opportunities for personal improvement were more clearly seen. Under the pressure from the Crespi defense, he completed less than 50% of his attempted passes, generated only seven yards per attempted pass and was intercepted twice. While these stats against this quality of competition are by no means poor, they are far below his usual standards. As a point of comparison, for the year- games leading up to the Crespi game, Barkley has completed 65% of his passes, generated 11 yards per attempt and has 32 touchdowns with only seven interceptions.

Someone should rep me for calling that in May. :)

Also, from what I've heard he is CW top overall target this year so it should only be a matter of time untill he gets an official offer. But as others have said theat is going to be very, very hard. Yes, ND has a lot of depth at QB, but so does USC. In this case it has more to do with other things. Matt would be a legacy at USC since his dad went to school there and played a sport, but I can't remember which one and Matt is on record for saying he's grown up a huge USC fan and that he can remember doing the SC "V" when he was 6 years old. So basically that'd be like me going to SC or UM. It just probably isn't going to happen. I might give UCLS a chance though is they were to fire Dorrell and hire a big name offensive coach. Matt could see a lot of early PT there.

His offer list now includes Colorado, Florida State, Stanford, Cal, Washington, and USC.

LOL, Matt Barkelys fall
jeru2yby.jpg

I personally feel bad for the guy. He came back to USC to help his college team when he would have been a likely number one pick. He got injured and fell. I hate USC but Barkley is a class act and I hope he has a successful NFL career.

At least he knows he won't go high as to not be in the draft room with cameras on him waiting to be selected. Saving the embarrassment.

Besides going to USC, it seems Barkley has been pretty classy. Correct me though if I am wrong please.

I feel bad for him because he had to play for the biggest scumbag on earth in Lane Kiffin. Kiffin selfishly convincing him to come back for a senior year he didn't need cost him at least $10 million dollars if not 20 or 30 or more. What a shame.

I thought his comments linked below were particularly classless, but it's possible I could be taking my disgust with Chris Galippo out on Barkley. It just seemed like it was unnecessary for him to make those statements public as their primary leader. Also, it's unlikely that Barkley was unaware that he was throwing deflated footballs against Oregon this past season. Someone took the fall, but it wasn't the coaches or the players that were held accountable.

USC Trojans Matt Barkley doesn't back down from teammates' statements that Notre Dame quit - ESPN Los Angeles

Don't let your hate for USC cloud your vision. Barkley is a class act.

I stated a couple of reasons why I question his class on the football field. As for off the field, I don't know much about him personally, though I have heard of his charitable acts of service before. I don't wish him any ill, as this was a season that truly humbled him as an athlete.
