Since Omar's coach says his parents' ability to watch him play and weather are two factors he's considering, I hope someone also hands him the following info.

Since 2006 (Rivals), Florida recruited the following for DT:

2006
DT Antwine ****
DT C Hobbs ****
DT T Sanders ****

2007
DT J Brown ****
DT T Davis *****

2008 (verbals)
DT T Epps ***
DT B Jones ***

That's 1-5 star, 4-4 stars, 2-3 star DT's.
(reps to a GH member for doing that research.)

Troy Epps is a Jr College entry, so even though he may enter this year, he is older and more experienced in the college game. We all know stars mean nothing on the field; so the fact Omar is 4 stars doesn't mean he will jump ahead of older 3-stars. This year showed us experienced means more than stars on the field.

Also, their roster shows 15 lineman (5-DTs, 8-DEs, and 2 DLs) who will return next year, not including the two DTs and two DEs coming in 2008. In the 4-3 defense, it is not as difficult for someone to slide over from DE to DT.

Ian Williams got significant playing time as a freshman because of the lack of depth we had at that position. NT in the 3-4 defense is the kind of position where it is helpful to rotate a fresh guy in. In the 4-3 defense, the DT's aren't typically rotated in and out as much because they aren't facing as many double teams.

I hope someone close to Omar who cares about him gives him that info. If one of the factors is his parents watching him play, someone should tell him they may have to wait until his Junior season if he goes to Florida. So being closer to GA is irrelevant. I hope the warmer weather makes sitting on the bench for 2 years more comfortable. I don't say that at all to be mean. I'm just confused by the factors his coach explained were important to him. Weather for a few months out of the year for the next four years, yet this decision could impact the rest of his life. A few months of comfort for potentially a life of discomfort if he doesn't realize his dream.

Thanks SoCal. Also, THEY CAN SEE HIM ON TV EVERY WEEK! If he went to Florida or USC, they would have to take a long drive to see him anyway. We have NBC and away games that are always televised. He can't possibly cite parents not seeing him play as a reason to start looking around at other schools. I hope Omar sticks to his verbal. He seems to have good character and he will help us tremendously. Go Irish!

Sadly, I think Omar is blinded by all the attention to see the facts.

Omar is as good as gone. This stings more than losing Trattou(spelling?) last year.

I totally disagree, while Hunter is irreplacable, trattou left us thin at DL last year. We still will have the best DL haul in the nation.

I'm hearing that ND is starting to go very hard after Mike Martin. A highly ranked DT commited to UM. If I had to guess I'd say this has quite a bit to do with Omar Hunter.

Does he have a profile?

I'm not sure, if he does it probably hasn't been updated for some time. But if things seem like they are starting to heat up at all I get on top of it and get one ready to go.

I thought it's come out that while Martin was wavering somewhat due to turmoil at UM, things have calmed down with the hiring of RR......and that he stated he is solid with UM.

Yeah, that's true as well but I just thought I'd throw it in because ND tends to go after kids at a program where there's been a coaching change and it looks like the entire UM defensve staff will be gone so I wouldn't count Corwin Brown out just yet. But like you said it'll probably end up being all for nothing in the end.

I have disected this situation for a couple of days now and this is what I have come up with.
I don't think Omar and TJ Pridemore are any more than acquantences off the field. In fact I'm pretty sure they aren't.

Florida was one of the first teams to show him love with an offer and he turned them down with the intention of going north to Michigan and then he was blown away by Notre Dame.

He has already visited Florida on an unofficial so even if he takes another visit he won't see anything that will just blow him out of the water.

He'll get the playing time he was promised at ND, Florida not so much.

Lastly he hasn't said anything other than he is commited to ND. So let's sit back and watch all our recuits dominate these all star games and concentrate our efforts on Deion, Gerell and co...

If Omar wants to visit Florida, let him. If he wants to sit on the bench behind 4-5 other 4 and 5 star players untill he is a junior or senior....let him. If he wants to stay with ND and have a very good shot at starting as a freshman or sophmore with national tv spotlight, let him.

But if hes shopping, were shopping. We want players that want to be at ND.

I have decided to stop worrying and go with Golden Domer88. We should only want guys to sign who are IRISH!:bbanana:

Mike Martin is a very, very strong player. I've watched him play personally, and I actually think he is only 16 maybe just turned 17 now. He goes to a rival school, so we compete against him a lot. He actually pulled our star running back down with one hand. He grabbed his jersey and just hanked him down.

Everybody is a bit irked by this Omar situation. But it is what it is he is still just 18 years old. I like everyone else was quite upset about hearing about Omar but the more i thought about it the more selfish i seemed. Everyone just because we hate Carrol and Meyer doesn't mean everyone hates them. Just think back to your senior year how would you handle the situation (looking at it from a non ND bias) if two of the biggest names in college football are making you feel bigger than a rock star. Its overwhelming just thinking about but it comes down to his decision its his college career. I'm sure everyone on this site that went to college went to a school they chose to go he should have the option. Two other things that have me scratching my head. Last time i checked we were recruiting Omar Hunter not his high school coach (who by the way is using Omar to get his name spread) and last time Omar talked he is all Irish. The whole year we praised CW and CB i just don't get why everyone is bailing on them now. As far as we know Omar is still Irish it is what it is he was blown away by ND.He knows if he went to ND he could be a star as a freshman or serve as depth along th d/l for UF. Notre Dame did nothing to hurt there chances at any point, I truly believe he is just checking his options and ends up at ND. Just give it time if Omar was to decomit I believe the words would come out of his mouth. Basically to sum all my points he might visit UF and what not but ill tell you this. The ND experience is amazing and we all know Omar said this. Right now this is the biggest decision of his life i would wanna be 100% sure also. CB a special recruiter and we saw the relationships he can build. Were all reading into the rumors to hard everyone is ready to write off Omar already and the only fact we have is that all of this a rumor. CW and CB we praised all year and they deserved praise just trust them everything is going to work out. We all know Omar the football player but personally we have no idea whats going on is his life if he decides to go elsewhere will I be upset sure betrayed sorta but we cant hold this against him everyone in the the end he is just an 18 year kid trying to put himself in the best position for life. Look whatever decision he makes we cant hold it against him guys if doesn't wanna come play ND then so be were are Notre Dame it is a privilege to play here and I don't want anyone who will take it for granted. Please everyone this is just a rumor calm down and trust the coaching staff.

And the saddest part is that coach using Omar to get his name out there when Omar does sign to ND he should stick to coaching and let the player who is actually being recruited not some lucky ass high school coach. I think i speak for everyone nobody cares what comes out of this guys mouth. Anyone is the Buford area I need a favor tell that guy to go his job he should have his team in weight room inst ed he is to caught up in his meal ticket college carer.I have no problem with coaches assisting their players in their recruitment but it seems like he is trying to take away from Omar. In his mind the more Omar name is mentioned the more publicity for him. Please man just go coach. Anybody else get a feeling like this from this guy.

And guys if Omar means this much to us imagine what he means to the coaching staff. Charlie is int playing anymore games it business time now. He just is int going to let a competitor grab Omar without a fight he is going to come hard with the full-court press if need be. I wish the scenario was int this but were going to learn if Charlie learned from his mistakes.(Not Trattou but Benn and the Littles). He knows whats going on but as for now Omar is Irish. If we do lose him it will be with the coaching staff hardest push. So far recruiting has gone like a fairy tale for us. And it was great because it was what kept our spirits up during a rough season. The most important part in recruiting is Finishing something i feel CW has struggled with. We gotta finish strong this year and it starts with Omar. Its time to step up CW if he doesn't correct this problem it can lead to disaster. They committed for a reason. I think Charlie builds a nice relationship early and believe me im not complaing but look at USC, Florida they always finish strong and now its time for ND to step up and finish strong.

And lastly read the Quote by Omar's coach it basically says nothing he confirms he is still committed to ND and the key word is possibly visit not definite. Guys sorry for all the posts but this coach upsets me he talks to talk. He basically beats around the bush saying Omar is still Irish he might might might visit another school. Guys again im sorry for all the posts but this coach's ego is taking away from Omar this should be a once and lifetime experience for him now hes forced into awkward positions. Ego ruins the NFL and its terrible. But the sadder thing is coach taking away from his star players achievements for personal benefit. Its a shame
