B&G and Rivals have listed Omar as an Official Offer and Omar becomes the 56th member of the 2008 Irish Envy Official Offer List.

Omar is a lifelong Michigan fan, and it was thought that when and if Michigan offered him, that he would commit on the spot. Well, Michigan offered on 3/20/07, almost 2 weeks ago, and Omar has not bit. This offer is probably in response to Omar opening up his recruiting. Omar’s GPA is not listed, but note that he has an offer from Duke, so that should not be an issue. Omar attends Darius Walker’s alma mater, and is the 3rd Georgia High School athlete to receive an ND offer in the past week. He is on the Rivals 250 to watch list for 2008, and is currently ranked #67 on the ESPN 150 for 2008. One word seems to pop up frequently in descriptions of Omar, “nasty”.

Nasty would be a good word to describe this kid just by the look of him.

I think we need someone like that on our D

After getting his ND offer, Omar has the Irish in his Top 4. Although he still considers Michigan to be his favorite, he is no longer ready to commit early to the Wolverines.

Buford’s Hunter entertains Weis, trims list to five

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis became the second high-profile college football head coach to stop by Buford High School in as many weeks when he visited Wednesday afternoon.

Like Florida’s Urban Meyer last week, Weis was there to make his pitch for blue-chip prospect Omar Hunter, the Wolves’ 6-foot, 300-pound defensive tackle who ranks as among the nation’s most sought-after recruits.

Both men apparently left a favorable impression with Hunter, who followed up Weis’ visit by saying he’d narrowed his list of potential schools to Notre Dame, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn and Michigan, Wolves coach Jess Simpson said.

All five schools had previously made scholarship offers to Hunter, who Simpson has called the school’s “most high-profile” recruit since Darius Walker.

Weis, who was unable to talk directly with Hunter per NCAA rules governing the so-called “dead period,” arrived at the school at at 1:30 p.m., chatting with Simpson before taking a quick tour of the school’s impressive athletic facilities.

He broke his leg in spring ball, his coach says it's not serious though.

I can just picture it in my head...

Hunter: "SNAP!! Arrrgh! My effin leg is broken."
Coach: "Don't worry, not serious. Take some asprin and get back out there."

I actually know a kid who made a tackle after he broke his arm, and went back in the game... his Dad was horrified.

I hope this deters other schools from going after him.

Thanks R19, but that was out about a week and a half ago.

Busy, busy time in South Bend. In addition to Newman, Sweat, and Forst visiting this weekend, and Goebel, scheduled for Wednesday, the big nasty one, Omar Hunter is also scheduled to visit the Irish in the next few days.

Now, Omar has to be still considered a long shot for the Irish, but ND is in his latest Top 5. Also, when you consider that all of the scUM recruiting sites were telling scUM fans that the minute Omar gets an offer from Michigan, he would be a Wolverine, the mere fact that he is visiting ND is simply delightful.

Just imagine if Big Omar were actually to commit to the Irish. If that happened I predict that the whole western side of the state of Michigan might fall into Lake Michigan because it will be so tilted from scUM fans heading to the Lake to off themselves. Anybody want to but some new lakefront property in Lansing?
