Next ND Offensive Coordinator - the search

MF is currently sitting in his office googling "coaches with cheapest buyouts."

Maybe, maybe not. The point is ND does NOT have the guaranteed money that ~90% of shit big ten teams do have in that regard. I think Lax's point (and definitely mine), is that those TV contracts are game-changers.

I wonder if there is any feasible path back to Ludwig? When ut was set to hire Schiano several years ago, the fan base raged and ultimately nixed the hiring. Is there enough rage (or one donor to offer the buyout money) to reverse the decision? Even if that were the case, is there now too...

I think what Lax was getting at though is the big ten has contracts that guarantee that money...even to crappy, also-rans like Purdue. Sure, ND knows money will be coming in through ticket sales, merchandise, donations, etc. But KNOWING you're guaranteed 75mil a year just through conference...

Or maybe even MF wouldn’t stipulate to that. “Yeah, Andy, you can bring your OL coach.” “He has a 1mil buyout.” “No then, you can’t bring him.” While it makes sense that MF and ND would know Ludwig’s buyout details, especially the cozier they got, they may not have known Harding’s buyout...

    Harry Hiestand Named OL Coach

Fairly certain Koresh can not. Janet Reno, on the other hand, could probably whip some dude’s asses.

As I said before, something is definitely amiss. The offer, the counter, the contract details, or the reporting. Things aren’t adding up. The only way I can think this mess sort of made sense, was that Jack or somebody on the BoT had a discussion with MF about budgetary matters. Maybe MF...

This all day. You can’t get to the point of actual job offerings if it’s never going to happen anyway. MF should have just offered the OC job to Andy Reid.

Oh. But Could it be on a booster’s/alumni group’s/WAG’s/etc.? Isn’t it fairly common for much of the athletic (or at least football or basketball) expenditures to fall on to some group associated with the school? Rich-ass boosters aren’t usually just forking checks over to the school or...

    Harry Hiestand Named OL Coach

I have to admit, we don’t get a lot of Janet Reno/David Koresh analogies on this board.

This too. Something’s amiss. “Hey, buddy, I really like you.” “You’re pretty swell too, coach.” “Wanna go steady?” “You bet I do, big guy!” “Oh shit, well looks like we can’t afford one another. Oh well. See ya at recess, I guess.”

I’m kind of here. I liked the idea of Ludwig as new OC. Was he worth 2.8 just to get him out of his contract, then another 1.0+ per year? Don’t know if I think he was. ND forking over ~4mil just to get to one year of Andy Ludwig does seem a bit steep, whether you’ve got the money or not.

    2022-2023 NFL Season

That was absurd and drives me crazy. NOBODY was ever counting them out. You weren't the Detroit Lions or Jaguars. You were the team with the best player on the planet that, the best play caller in the league, the team that had been to the Championship Game 4 times in a row, and the team thad...

    2022-2023 NFL Season

This. And the execution by many of the players- Hurts, Brown, Mahomes, Pacheco, Kielce, JuJu, etc. One of the downsides to watching a game on TV is that you often can't see how a play is developing. It was even a treat to actually be able to see several of the pass plays unfolding before our...

These days, yes, coordinators will often sign 2-3 year deals. I think Golden signed a 3yr deal with ND. The length and buyout numbers aren’t enough to dissuade a team from hiring a coordinator as a new HC, but can sometimes be a hinderance and make lateral moves difficult. They’re usually...

    Tommy Rees - Offensive Coordinator

Good hire for Saban and Rees. Regarding Grubb, there are reports that he would not commit to RTDB as much as Saban wants, or at least not to modify his run philosophy as much as Saban wants, and therefore was never actually offered the job as OC.
