Time for new partner: Big 10 or SEC?

Agree. Aside from making the playoffs/winning a national championship, the thing I care most about as a fan is us playing big and fun games. Yes we can schedule a one-off early with some SEC power, which is fun. But beyond that we've now lost our two biggest rivalry games (Michigan and USC)...

    Coaching Carousel

Is it normal for so many college assistants to get hired by the NFL? Feels like a lot this year. But maybe this is typical?

'21 CA QB Tyler Buchner (ND FB -> Bama FB -> ND LAX???)

Honestly, given the current depth in the QB room, I wouldn't mind having a guy who has actually played college football available in a pinch. Though to Veritate's point it's probably a good idea to give practice reps to one of the young guys, for developmental purposes.

    USC recruiting and everything else

Oh, USC certainly COULD win all of those games. But you could also see them losing each of them. Oregon and Ohio State are simply better teams. They have been very poor in trips to Midwest under Riley, losing to much lesser teams than Indiana and Penn State. Washington is always dangerous and...

    USC recruiting and everything else

Oregon Washington @Penn State Ohio State @Wisconsin (not that Wisconsin's so good but that's not an easy trip and Riley's teams have struggled so much on the road) @Indiana They'll need luck to go 9-3. No wonder they dumped us.

Deland McCullough - RB Coach (2022-2024)

That's the funny thing. I agree OL is the biggest question mark of any unit, followed by TE. It'd be cooler if Schrauth had come back, and Jags was healthy. But OL and TE are historically the strongest units on the team and places we recruit and develop very well. I'm fairly confident it will...

Deland McCullough - RB Coach (2022-2024)

Yep. We've got three returning starters, and like 15 other guys. The odds are good that two of those 15 will be solid.

    Oct 17 | BYU

Looking at their schedule, if BYU loses to a Big 12 team, they will almost certainly have a worse loss than we do (to BYU). And then a second loss in the Big 12 championship game. So, maybe don't lose both those games. And anyway, in the scenario they describe, the committee probably wouldn't...

Notre Dame - Assistant Coaches - General

Presumably he was replaced when Michigan brought in Whittingham? Pretty normal. He spent most of the 2010s working on staffs for Charlie Strong (at Louisville, then Texas, then USF), so while that's three schools it's kind of one job. Then Michigan, Tennessee, back to Michigan.

    Freezageddon

Not really Northeast Kingdom but Bolton is one of my favorite mountains in New England. A throwback, with groovy terrain and great backcountry stuff if you're into that. The secret is that it's west-facing and gets a lot of lake effect snow from Lake Champlain.

Notre Dame - Assistant Coaches - General

Dude has coached a lot of big-time college football. Spent a bunch of years with Charlie Strong. Even worked as a grad assistant under Lou Holtz at South Carolina in 2001-02. https://mgoblue.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/brian-jean-mary/6664

    Aaron Henry - DBs Coach & Co-DC

Just guessing here, but I suspect Mickens would have *actually* wanted to be co-DC, for his own professional development, whereas Henry, who has been a DC and already has that experience, is fine simply having the title (and presumably the pay bump that comes with it).

    Aaron Henry - DBs Coach & Co-DC

I'd bet this is Gino's last year as our QB coach. When Carr wins the Heisman, he'll be a hot OC hire.

    Aaron Henry - DBs Coach & Co-DC

Illinois fans are perpetually miserable (which is fair). So I’d take any response from them with a big grain of salt.

    Nov 28 | Syracuse

I think I blacked out most of that miserable season. But it looks like we closed it out getting our butts kicked at Syracuse on December 6, which is even weirder. Thanksgiving weekend that year was @Stanford. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/notre-dame/2003-schedule.html I think...

Notre Dame - Assistant Coaches - General

Fortuna's biggest problem is that he hasn't actually covered Notre Dame Football as a job in nearly a decade. I suspect most of us regulars here have a better understanding of Notre Dame's football program in 2026 than he does. He watches the games, sure, but he has no sources anymore and most...

'23 IL OT Charles Jagusah (Notre Dame Signee)

It’s not about “excuses,” he obviously has an injury that’s more serious than a normal broken arm. Nerve damage is nothing to mess with.
