Well I go to Ohio State, and root for all of the sports teams except the football team. I find them to be a bunch of recalcitrant douchebags who need a .500 season every three years or so to bring them back down to earth. Just the system present at the university for football players is a joke, and a lie.

I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for Notre Dame. The players go to school (for the most part, my friends on campus say it's so-so), they are immersed in the student body (that is huge for me), and generally seem like actual student-athletes. My cousins were captains of the wrestling and swimming teams and were legitimate students, like the majority of athletes at Ohio State (contrary to popular belief, it really is a great place to go to school). I just have a hard time rooting for the guys on the football team.

I have been and always will be fond of Notre Dame's program, they clearly go about things the correct way. I might ask in return, how could one NOT respect ND?

Eh, she's not keeping up on it too much. She loves to watch the Buckeyes but doesn't follow too many off season stories. She just relies on me giving her information as it comes in. I think that she is starting to worry that some serious **** is about to go down though.

It started back in the mid 1920's i believe. UNC was looking for a mascot since NC state(who at the time was UNC's big rival) had a mascot and UNC felt they needed their own. The fullback of the football team Jack Merrit was given the nickname of "the battering ram". So the head cheerleader suggested that they get start using a ram as a mascot. They bought one for $25.

The first game it appeared at the kicker rubbed it's head before kicking the game winning field goal. Since then it's been the UNC mascot

Maybe...I'm not remembering it though. I changed my name so I'm not using my first name anymore. So, it's only recently that I've been IrishJayhawk. I'm a grad student at KU now. First year in Lawrence was the National Championship year. Pretty amazing.
