Wait until we get into the fan spilts in the stadium.

We need to do our part to keep the orange out of the stadium. Their fans have been very vocal about traveling to this game.

Yeah, it sounds like he’s confirmed aa out for a few games.

"Miami star receiver Malachi Toney will undergo ankle surgery that is expected to sideline him for multiple weeks..."

Missing Toney is huge but it isnt everything. Mensah gets rid of the ball quick and is deadly accurate. I expect them to try the BYU approach but being successful running and peppering Barkate and Lofton with receptions.
Difference is Miami's defense is not good, particularly the secondary.

I would be shocked if soft zone shows up more than like 10% of the time. I would bet anything Freeman told Ash we are playing man and stopping the run/getting pressure. We will take our chances with those non-Toney receivers in 1v1s.

Not having the second best player in CFB might not be everything, but it’s pretty damn close.

Toney had about half of their TD receptions, and touches the ball basically once every three plays. Mensah could count on him to be open virtually every play. They don't have that guy now which means Mensah will need to go 2nd or 3rd read on some plays. Ideally he doesn't have the time to do that, makes some bad decisions.

A takeaway or two could swing thing this into a massacre because of 1. the crowd and 2. Miami's swiss cheese defense.

I would love for this to be a repeat of Clemson vs. ND when Morrison had his breakout game and ND dominated the entire time. ND wins and everyone will say it's because of Toney not playing, but if ND dominates all facets of the game, people will question just how good Miami really is regardless of not having Toney. I'm still nervous after seeing this team lose to BYU and Miami has the talent to still win, but hoping we run them out of the building.

Miami is without their best player and has a secondary that got pieced apart by future used car salesman Billy Edwards. If Notre Dame doesn’t win then…lol.

Makes me wonder if Miami’s offense isn’t quite of explosive if we can lean on the running game a bit more now. Doesn’t need to be a shoot out

3. Between 36 and 39 degree temps help too.

You get down early it’s going to be a cold sad night.

They're going to need someone to step up as their #2. Barkate was awesome at that knowing he was getting 1 on 1 with possibly the 2nd or 3rd best corner on him. Not sure if it's too late to deviate from the gameplan, but Moore traveling with him now seems to be the smarter plan, which means they'll need someone to take on the other touches.

The point of the zone vs BYU was to keep eyes on Bear if he scrambles, and to contain all the gadget plays. The issue with it is we didn't dial up much pressure and Bear doesn't scramble, almost all of his runs are designed runs.

Going man doesn't mean 1v1 or makes it easier to stop the run. It just makes it not as obvious where the hole will be in the defense, especially post snap. Also, going man would say ND isn't as concerned with Mensah running, even though he's capable and will probalby need to a big saturday night.

KVA isn't being talked about enough, he needs to ball out.

Miami without Toney is the best offense we’ve faced this year. Don’t set yourself up for disappointment. The offense will still need to be the reason they win this game
I would agree with you if they had at minimum a few weeks of playing without him. They literally lost him at practice yesterday. That's typically your last major base offense install day for what you're going to do. Thursday/Friday you're working on unique things and walkthroughs Friday/Saturday obviously. The offensive game plan centers around him. He accounts for about 50% of the passing yards when he's in the game for mensah (it's about 43% of mensah total yards but he's been out of a few periods of games). They are going to have to create a completely new game plan and not have time to do true physical practicing of it, more so just walkthroughs. What they call in the running game will stay the same, but probably more of it.

My point, I think defending BYU is much harder for Ash/Freeman to come up with a good game plan than Miami without Toney. Even the trick plays/reverses or WR throws are almost all done with Toney.

I hope now we don't revert to a defensive game plan like we saw vs UNC, because Miami without toney IMO will be similar to UNC in what they can do, with a better QB/RB and probably a slight drop off at WR. TEs i'll say similar but Thurman is much more of a red zone threat with his size, and he killed us. I'd expect Miami to try and go at ND more with Lofton than originally planned.

ND D needs to play much better than unc and BYU especially, but i also don't want to pretend this team is anywhere close to as hard to defend without Toney. I'm not saying you're saying that. But ND has a much better shot defensively to have a positive impact on the game for ND. I'm with you though, the ND offense still needs to go out and play to score 35+

I think whoever matches up with Wingo when hes in there is gonna be the key of the game. Hes got speed and can burn you.

This doesn’t make any sense. Clemson built their gameplan around stopping him, which left other opportunities on the field for Mensah to go to. But Toney won’t even be on the field so we won’t have to open ourselves up the way Clemson did. It’s a stupid comparison

Miami is still absolutely loaded. But this statement doesn't make sense. Toney played that entire game except for 3 snaps. So Clemson dedicated tons of defensive resources to taking him away. Which meant other guys were open. That's clearly a different scenario.
He should’ve worded it better. I believe when he said, “Toney was taken out of the game…”; he meant when Clemson put their best CB on him & added help when double teams were needed to essentially neutralize him.

I agree. This is equivalent to 2025 ND losing Love 3 days before a game.
