Then what are you “tanking” for, exactly? The first round, and more correctly the top say, 15 picks, are what you tank for in the NFL. There is no appreciable difference in value between a high or low 2nd round pick.

So yes, you DO IN FACT need a first round pick to tank. That’s literally the only reason to do so.
You sell off expensive old players that aren't part of the long term plan and aquire draft capital. That gives you assets and cap space, 1st round pick or not.

I don’t disagree. I’m just telling you what the strategy is at this point. You have to do SOMETHING, right? So you don’t have some first rounders, what else can you do? All you can do is get quantity, since you can’t get quality. No one is going to take the job if you have zero first rounder NOR anything else. At the very least they can say, hey, we’ve got 15-18 other picks. It’s SOMETHING.

🤷‍♂️ it is what it is.
Yeah, I get the strategy. It just pisses me off that they could have offered Q a new contract last or earlier this year. That tells me Irsay knew last year she was going to tear things down if the Colts weren't winning. He has another good 3-4 years left. Even if he starts to decline he'd still be better than most guards.
We wont find instant game changers but we can build more depth for the long term while we wait to find our future franchise quarterback. I agree that there isn't much else we can do but I know we can all agree that Ballard really screwed the franchise with his poor draft performance and horrible roster management/free agent signings.
Drafting Richardson who had barely played in college, signing Jones to that ridiculous contract and then giving up two 1st for Gardner is gross mismanagement. Good thing Ballard was getting paid a nice salary, because he's not going to get another GM job in the NFL.

But that isn’t “tanking”.

Words have meanings.

What you described is just normal roster management for a poorly constructed team that is preparing now for a rebuild. That’s not tanking.

“Tanking” is something much more specific and malevolent- intentionally putting your team in a less advantageous position than it would have been naturally specifically to INTENTIONALLY lose games to get a higher first round pick. It might even encompass throwing plays or games, though in the NFL that is much harder than in the NBA. That is what tanking is. It must involve intent, it must be malevolent and it must involve trying to get a high first round pick. That is ONLY what tanking is. The two things are NOT interchangeable terms or ideas.

New rumor on Reddit Is the colts are trying to trade Taylor to Seattle for Price and draft picks. I’d love to have JD on the colts as part of the rebuild

Jones is a joke at QB and Leonard should be given a shot. How much worse than Jones could he be? Look at the last game of last season with Leonard. He put up some great numbers on the road against a Texans team that needed the win.
Jones is less than pedestrian at this point.

I don't like AR. Please play him though because Danny is just embarrassingly bad this year.

I think Carly looks like a goof. Your money don't impress me.

Sad because I know Colts fans that weren't old enough to appreciate the Super Bowl win and these years have just gotten sadder and sadder and sadder.

I'll be in Cleveland and Philly for the games. Hope we find some self-respect by then.

Colts strip sack and recover the FB. Move to the 17 with a chance to score before halftime. Jones throws a pick 6.

That my friends is the Colts in a nutshell.

Irsay has turned the Colts into the laughing stock of the NFL.

She has every right to stand in the middle of practice and on the sidelines during games, but if she’s doing it to send a message, she’s sending the wrong message.

I doubt any GM or coach will want to work for her now.

It can’t be pleasant having your boss over your shoulder every minute. Who TF would want to work for her?
I don’t disagree with you but she clearly has her reasons right now and they seem to be pretty valid. I’m willing to bet her being on the sidelines will end when a new coach and GM take over

She needs to clean house. Which she’s in the process of doing. Wise and good for her.

But micromanaging for the world to see isn’t going to help her attract talent. Which she’ll need to do too.
