Again, he was buried in the
It goes without saying that there is a difference between being buried as a true freshman OL for the start of the season and immediately breaking through when given the opportunity VERSUS not sniffing the starting lineup for 2 years (while ND had some super mediocre OL play at times) and not being given a shot in fall camp over a guy a year younger than you [presumably because you were playing worse not because you kicked Rudolph's dog].

Just seems more likely that Absher is not doing well vs Prescod is some sort of revelation and about to ball out. But weirder things have happened.

I guess I’m just not as worried about Absher regressing.

But Prescod doesn’t have to be a revelation to be buried and overlooked on the tackle side on the depth chart as a third year offensive linemen.

He was getting good reviews from coaches before now. It just turned out they didn’t think of him as an OG. And without Jagusah and Augustine in front of him, he’s getting a shot.

ND's OL play was definitely not mediocre the past 2 years.

I mean, they weren't elite by any stretch of the imagination, but they were MILES better than the 2021 unit. That one wasn't just mediocre, it was leaning towards bad territory.

Prescod was a guy who needed a lot of development, both physically and mechanically, and his freshman year was basically a wash due to injury. It sounds like the light has come on for him.

I can't imagine Denbrock and Rudolph move him to guard if they don't think he can give them a quality product there, because they know what they have in Absher. He started several games and was solid. Stands to reason they think Prescod can provide better than just solid.

Compared to the P2 (SEC and Big Ten teams), ND lead the nation in yards per carry each of the last two years while giving up the second fewest sacks last year.

So you're correct, ND wasn't among the elite by any stretch of the imagination--they were out well in front of the elite.

I don't see what the problem or discussion is. He's in his 3rd year, which is when many dudes emerge on the OL. For most OL they need time to develop and grow, it's not a position you should expect to be seeing significant time as a Freshman or in many cases a Sophomore. Generally if you have young guys starting on your OL you either had a recruiting problem in the past or a development problem. Even Alt wasn't originally a starter, he only filled in at first because Fisher went down, and they were both true freshmen starters because Quinn had holes. On the bright side the extra experience paid off.

Somehow I’ve convinced myself I’m disappointed it’s Prescott while simultaneously knowing if it’s Absher I’ll be mad cause it’s not Prescott. ND fan here.

Fuck I’m not ready for 1-2 years of the different spelling of Styles Prescod.

Myles Prescott looking mighty fine out their methinks

I’m not not saying that Predscote can’t hold off Abschier but I’m almost certain it’s a toss up.

What you're REALLY screwed up on is that his name is Prescod Styles.

... or is that the other Prescod Styles?

This is what we all have asked for. Recruit so well it makes the starters earn their spots and we have multiple options.

Again we are at a point with this staff we owe them the benefit of doubt.
And this is what Freeman preaches no spot is givin everything is earned. Absher will still play a lot this year and then he can stay and compete or move on somewhere else.

What happens if Tommie Reis returns to the staff or Charlie Weiss speaks to the team?

Spot on. Freeman has put the program in a spot where high-level to elite talent is circulating every recruiting class. If you are a starter on one season, you best believe there is new blood coming to push you and take your spot.

Frankly surprised we haven't had the same issue with Jagusah.

Although, if our comments were text to speech, I would imagine that issue would come up.

2028 OL - Could be the ultimate IE brain melt OL. I could see each player having their name spelt 19 different ways.
