Who really cares anymore? Ohio State wins it all. Neat. Ohio State loses to Oregon or Michigan in regular season. Who really cares? The sport isn’t nearly as fun as it used to be. I admit tOSU has its hands in this too (big money rosters). The charm and novelty has worn off. It’s too corporate

New SEC mouth piece Pete Thamel said he expects a new TRO for the players. Hopefully the conferences and NCAA can get this in front of a judge soon.

Ignoring Notre Dame’s relevancy, which I think Freeman could have accomplished under the “old system”, are you implying you prefer unlimited transfers, $30,000,000 + rosters, “pay-for-play,” conference expansions that make no sense, inequitable scheduling, destruction of conferences that have been around since WWII, injunctions and TROs for professional athletes to join back in on college play, Notre Dame being bounced from the Playoffs potentially due to corporate greed, inconsistent judicial decisions….yeah, its never been better! Sign me up!

NIL is not the problem brother. Schools have been able to soak up all the TV dollars etc. for years while players at shit schools got a degree in CTE and then kicked to the curb.

So if the system is buckling because the football roster gets 30M a year, maybe the “adults” in charge need to change their priorities.

Name a sport where the head coach gets more than the players? Who comes to the games to watch the coaches? Brian Kelly got enough to fund a premier roster and some for getting fired.

I’ll start to care about how much a kid gets paid when the economics are aligned with the actual value generators. There’s position coaches making more than the highest paid player at that position at most schools.

Not especially, but I just find that once the season starts, I don't really care about most of that stuff. What conference Maryland plays in, or some stupid transfer drama. That all pales in comparison to the pure scene of a big-time college game, and the wild, unpredictable, fun shit that goes on every Saturday.
Once the games begin, it's still the greatest sport that we have. And, fwiw, compared with 10 years ago, it feels like more teams have more to play for, which makes it even more fun.

From a fan perspective it is the problem. 90% of the fans of any sport don’t care about how much their favorite player is making. They don’t care what their favorite player is majoring or if they even get a degree. There would be some consternation over my team not showing a willingness to and doing what they can in terms of not spending money to be competitive. At the end of the day amateurism has been a pillar of NCAA sports that has been destroyed entirely the last few years. It’s been the cry since Ed O’Bannon flopped in the NBA.

Added* - Also everyone wishes they could have been good enough to play college football or a college sports. Those that came before this generation got their education and eat ramen and would do it a million times over again. If you would have told me I could play at Notre Dame when I was in high school I would have paid my own tuition. The common fan doesn’t care and sees NIL, ESPN and all the revenue and money and $150 game tickets as a necessary evil.

I think you’re contradicting yourself. Fans don’t watch the sport through the view of “oh golly we lost by 14 but hey, our roster is 10 mil cheaper!”, it’s all about the product.

My point is - NIL and the players are not the ones who created this mess. They are not the ones signing TV deals or moving conferences. If the belief is that the schools are doing this in response to NIL, then I’d ask if that person was born in 2021 because money has always been the most important factor for these schools.

Notre Dame is a rarity in that the education and experience provided is immeasurably greater than nearly any other school, which is why we all love it so much to be sitting around arguing on an Internet forum in August. But, the majority of schools pre-NIL gave a degree in CTE from Piss Stain U, if that school feels hurt by NIL, good fuck’em and their exploitation.

The problem players have is they can't sue for this. The teams in the league would need to sue. Players can't force teams to take them. And teams have learned from Texas Tech not to go into business for themselves. They'll get blackballed for OOC games in all sports.

The rules introduced prevent former NFL players - players who NFL signed contracts and have been released - from playing college football. 95% of these injunction guys that does not apply to you.

Basically only LSU was/is breaking the rules instituted.

But they are also including guys who declared for the draft of a pro league and didn't withdraw before the draft. It's my understanding Castellanos declared for the NFL draft. That's what google said anyways.

He didn’t declare for the Draft, he had no eligibility remaining at the time. The declare thing is for someone like RJ Luis in basketball who forgoes eligibility and wants to return. Also LSU lol.
