Movies you just saw

Haven't seen it yet. Maybe this will be the movie that makes me get it but I've never understood "overcast" as a concept. Sounds like a concern for the budgeting dept. but not for me.

I guess it could get distracting in theory but I don't think I've ever been removed from a scene by recognizing someone if they're doing an ok job at playing the part. I've also watched enough movies that I recognize most character actors just as well as A list actors. The only difference is that I don't know the character actors irl names.

I saw it Saturday in 70mm. It's fantastic. Probably not my favorite Nolan flick, but that has more to do with how strong his filmography is than anything about the Odyssey.

Also having seen it the discourse around the movie before it came out about it being woke looks even more ridiculous. Incel MAGA losers looking to bitch and moan about anything. Glad it's being shoved back in their face by this smashing records left and right.

Overall I didn’t think the new Odyssey movie was a bad movie, but I actually enjoyed the previous tv series version better. I was really excited to see what Nolan would do with the work, but some of the changes to the original source (and no I don’t mean the racial changes) didn’t improve on it.

I’m sure expectations are part of it. I remember going into 300 with very low expectations and being pleasantly entertained by a movie not concerned with historical accuracy. This felt more like a movie not sure what it wanted to be other than long and based on a poem.

The discourse was from when the cast was released before the movie came out. Go check the comment section on any post on social media and you’ll see the usual suspects complaining about “Helen of Detroit”.

Some of it was from misinformation. Page was rumored to be Achilles, but they ended up a new character created for the film.

Regardless, it was way overblown.

I believe it was based on the comic/graphic novel and is a fictionalized retelling of The Battle of Thermopylae.

One of the cooler movies to experience in the theater. How it is already 20 years old is beyond me.

The mini-series "Fight Night" on Peacock a couple years back was quality stuff and Hart led a great ensemble cast. It was about a private Vegas night in Atlanta that got ripped off during the Ali-Quarry fight in 1970. I definitely recommend it.

Saw Odyssey yesterday. For a long film, I thought it didn't drag until the last 20 minutes.

I did not know much about the online trolling stuff. No one is required to see it and if you see it you're not required to like it. I though it was visually crazy and I wish I'd seen it in IMAX. Wish certain characters had gotten more screen time, but Christopher Nolan wanted to tell the story his way.

Jon Bernthal is becoming an actor that I just like no matter what he is in.

I really enjoyed The Drama as well. Fuck Alana Haim's character. I've not hated someone that thoroughly in a movie in quite a while.
