Demetrius Jackson not exactly covering himself in glory and picked up 2 misdemeanors for battery at Marian HS. I realize he's not on the team, but figured it might as well go into this thread just to add to the overall "program at rock bottom" nature of things.

The school’s basketball coach was fired because of this.

My son's on the freshman team at the school and has trained with Demetrius before. It's been a wild two weeks.

Olivier Rioux is headed to the portal, we could have a giant French-Canadian and a giant Mongolian on the same team.

Since we are dreaming:

Anton Bonke please
I don't think Rioux is as much of a dream as you suggest, other than that he isn't really a P4 caliber player. He's not particularly athletic. UNC Asheville had a kid named Kenny George a few years ago that was 7'7" and ended up there because he wasn't able to compete athletically with higher level teams.

Plenty of playing time here...maybe he likes the fact that ND was founded by a French priest...

He would put butts in the seats out of curiosity. At least for a while.

Sweet. Maybe we can be like Sienna against Duke and play 5 starters all game/season because at this rate that's how many players we will have left. 🤣

Burton and Certa next. And hopefully that’s it so they can field a team next year.

Curious who they’ll get in the portal. Two Madonna University caliber guys would be my guess.

I was holding out hope that the rumors were false about Burton and Haralson, as I saw them playing pickup in the basketball practice facility last week. Oh well.

I got nothing against his kids.

He's not good enough for a featured ball handler role, but Braeden shot about 50% on corner 3's (40% from 3 overall) and is worth high 6 figures on the market, dude plays at ND basically for "free".

Younger Shrews takes a spot at the end of the roster Brey left unfilled for 20 years and also plays for free. If he's healthy enough to practice it's a win.

Coach needs to coach a hell of a lot better and win more with less talented, lower ranked players that they can afford to keep.

Braeden Shrews made more than Certa last year. He’s not at all playing for free lol. And Certa is a significantly better play, who also just so happens to be leaving.

His younger son is an NAIA level talent.

Maybe he made more than Certa, why would Certa have been in line for big $ (or any) after his freshmen year? I'd like Certa more, but significant, nah. I was just saying my perception is Braeden is willing to play at ND for far less than his market value (a bit hyperbolic with free), Certa is not (now that his market exists) and obviously why would he? But, why would I blast that player?

The NAIA player is better than a cone / empty chair at practice. If he ends up playing big minutes, that's a different conversation.

I guess our perceptions of Braeden are drastically different. Most likely, his market value is a role player off the bench. The reason he’s a starter is because his dad is the coach and the coach is terrible at constructing a roster.

Shrews knows at this point he’s coaching for his life and relevancy. I’ll be interested to see what the roster looks like. I’d take a HARD look at filling spots with some Crossroads League-NAIA types. Ben Humirochous has a Huntington>Evansville>Illinois career arc and now plays huge minutes for a Final Four team. Kyle Mangas could’ve played for anyone. Elijah Malone was solid for Colorado and his brother was just the conference DPOY at FGCU.

Soble isn’t pulling any punches here. Administration apparently isn’t doing anything to help out with NIL, and it sounds like the undergrad transfer exceptions are just for football (which is ridiculous. Why should football get this exception but not basketball?)
