That blows, barely a series.
It's based off a short story that's like 90 pages.

It's actually refreshing that they're being true to the source material and not dragging everything out just to pad the runtime like so many shows do.

Another benefit is that they will air a new season every year instead of having to wait 3 years between seasons like HotD. Season 2 is already done filming. I hope more shows follow this pattern. Slow Horses is another good example.

I watched the first 5 episodes all in one day, I think the best way to think about this is a ~3.5 hour long movie. It works great that way from a narrative standpoint. I had the day off today, otherwise I wish I would have waited until all 6 were available.

Yeah I think it's pretty important to put out seasons within a year or so. Otherwise people will check out or get annoyed

They're also doing a good job 1) reflecting that a majority of the novellas are Dunk's internal dialogue, which can be tricky getting from page to screen, and 2) setting up the storylines for upcoming seasons. I wished we had stayed with the Trial of the 7 for the entirety of Sunday's episode, but they needed to tease the first Blackfyre rebellion through Dunk's past in order to have the needed context for the Sworn Sword and Mystery Knight storylines.

Really enjoying the show, and REALLY hoping that we get flashbacks to the Blackfyre Rebellions in upcoming seasons. That's a phenomenal storyline to tap.

I'm actually kind of worried.

I mean...Aegon and his sisters just roll. Where's the drama in that?
Agreed. I feel like Robert's rebellion is a more obvious choice.

If they're doing movies now I've also always thought Maegor the cruels death would make a great locked door murder mystery. All taking place int he Red Keep.

Yeah there were times where Robert came close to losing the rebellion, which provides the sort of conflict a series needs. Aegon just trucked through Westeros with very little resistance.

The obvious choice is the Blackfyre Rebellion, though. It will be tee'd up perfectly doing the Dunk and Egg stories, as those take place in the immediate aftermath and you can introduce them through that series. The cast of characters from that - Aegon IV, Bloodraven, Daemon Blackfyre (the great grandson of Daemon from HOTD), Bittersteel - provide so much meat on the bone for an incredible series. Daemon is especially a terrific character, and could easily see him becoming a fan favorite/who viewers end up rooting for.
