Good luck Deland. Thanks for the memories. You are leaving the team in a much better place than when you arrived and you are directly responsible for a lot of that success.

It's kinda weird that DMC's coaching trajectory is very circular.

Went from the Chiefs to Indiana to Notre Dame to the Raiders and now potentially back to the Chiefs. Never promoting.

I think you could argue he rose to the point of 2024 being an Associate HC at ND a school of recent history shown to likely result in promotion. Taking the Raiders job in retrospect was a mistake that has now derailed that. If he knew Carroll would get fired, I doubt he would have taken it. Also who knows if some G5 school ever as had interest in him as a HC that he chose not to pursue.

Would only be fitting that he gets the Chiefs job and Kansas City then selects J-Love with the 9th pick.
I wish my Giants would wisen up and make the pick instead of wasting it on another OL or going WR with Tate and Tyson at the top of the boards....gotta go best player available Love, Downs etc

Not sure that he has ever had ambitions for an OC/HC type of role.

Anyone think the KC interest in DMC is related to a plan to draft Love?

Andy Reid brought back Matt Nagy. He brought back Eric Bienemy. This makes sense.

McCullough taking a G5 head coaching job could end up being a pay cut depending on which one he would take. He has a niche at this point and it's a pretty good one considering he is going to make a six figure salary if not more. He's obviously good at what he does and with that he'll have demand.

IIRC it was a big reason he took the ND job was he wanted to be a HC
Yeah. The word at the time was he had seen, under Eric Bienemy, how hard it was to climb to the HC level in the NFL, so he went back to college to position himself to run his own program someday. (also wouldn't be surprised if his kids being/approaching college was a factor too).
But I do wonder if after a few years back in the college game, and the landscape changing the way it has, he realized he'd rather be an NFL assistant than a G5 head coach.

I'm a DMC fanboy, but always found it odd that we never went after his sons.

Agreed. I just want him to go somewhere with a solid O line. Would love for a playoff team to trade into the top 10 and snag him

I heard the Irish Illustrated people compare the unknowns with the 2026 RB room to the 2020 and 2019 rosters. Personally, I don't think there is any comparison.
  • AW was VERY productive as a freshman and was a monster in garbage time this year.
  • He was held off the field this year by (1) two all-time greats and (2) a RB coach who almost always plays only two RBs (unless its garbage time).
  • The kids behind Aeneas are basically all 4-stars with high upsides.
  • The one with the lowest ranking, NJ, is the guy the coaches are most excited about.
So I am personally not worried AT ALL about RBs in 2026.

I am worried about back-up QB and maybe a little about unknowns at WR. But RB is going to be just fine.

I am not worried but understand this could be the weakest part of our offense.
