Onye needs to get Tom Mars on retainer if he hasn’t already.
Also, why does the SEC QB have an answer and we don't?
He was denied in December and appealled the decision. I believe I read that somewhere. Could be wrong thoHe could have filed earlier.
You and your facts…hahaHe could have filed earlier.

It definitely does count based on the rules, unless you can get the NCAA to issue a waiver. It has happened before (for guys that played more than 4 games), but generally the odds are stacked against him.My worry here is that Onye played in five games in the season he had the incapacitating situation (the seasons where he played less than five it wasn’t bc of injury).
Would that not make last season count regardless?
The NCAA has consistently given waivers for stuff like this but we'll see.My worry here is that Onye played in five games in the season he had the incapacitating situation (the seasons where he played less than five it wasn’t bc of injury).

Stuff like what? My impression has always been that while waivers are not uncommon, that there is a greater chance that it's denied that granted. The NCAA has consistently given waivers for stuff like this but we'll see.
Basically if you have a legit injury that caused you to miss a big chunk of the season they grant an extra year of eligibility. They got especially soft on this around COVID era.Stuff like what? well, right, he already redshirted his true freshman year and barely played his redshirt freshman year. I hope you're right, but it would seem like one they could definitely deny, given that he played beyond the medical redshirt threshold in 2024.Basically if you have a legit injury that caused you to miss a big chunk of the season they grant an extra year of eligibility. My concern is that it's a 6th year not 5th year.
Is there a chance that this getting out can damage future prospects for him?they have to submit the necessary medical documents....I am informed as to what had happened, it's going to depend on whether onye wants it to be in writing
it could impact him in future endeavors HOWEVER that would only IF it came to light but he's not some top draft potential so not sure how eager someone would be to try to get it out there....more just wanting to keep shit private and move on....it's going to be a thing when teams interview where shit gets leakedIs there a chance that this getting out can damage future prospects for him?
So scratch mental illness from the suspected reason.it could impact him in future endeavors HOWEVER that would only IF it came to light but he's not some top draft potential so not sure how eager someone would be to try to get it out there....more just wanting to keep shit private and move on....it's going to be a thing when teams interview where shit gets leaked
That's not at all what I said or was implying.. just said he may want to keep his medical records etc privateSo scratch mental illness from the suspected reason.
We need that regardless, luckily we have one coming because guys who sat the bench for us multiple years won't be the difference makers needed all of a sudden to win a title. So 30%-40% chance of needing a new starting caliber DT lol?
Correct, they responded to an appeal which garnered a faster reply without the necessary documentation. He was denied in December and appealled the decision. I believe I read that somewhere. Could be wrong tho
Correct me if I'm wrong BUT if the new 9-month game limit becomes the new threshold for redshirt eligibility with final approval, won't this be in Onye's favor? A guy who was borderline at 5 games plus his shortened season was due to mental health reasons should now get approved.
FBS coaches vote unanimously to adjust sport's redshirt rule
I say that because last year I believe there were a few guys who ran out of eligibility due to 2 years at Junior College plus two full years in FCS play, BUT a new rule was about to go into effect to allow a total of 5 years with JC included which was going to give players in this situation that extra year.
If I remember correctly, since the ruling effective date was not that far off in the future, the NCAA ruled positively for anyone who challenged the NCAA for an extra year in this 2 JC years + 2 FCS years situation; I specifically remember two 4th year SDSU guys getting that extra year of eligibility from the NCAA even without the new rule in effect since it was only a few months away.
