It is kinda funny how everyone is letting T Town go without calling him out. He does seem like a good guy/poster but he was non existent as bama was playing like crap, especially after the auburn and SEC Championship game. But then he was quickly back on posting after they beat an average oklahoma team. Passive gloating. He wasn't posting much going into the oklahoma game i'm sure because he didn't think they would win even though oklahoma isn't good. Everyone is giving bama credit for beating an average team. Not that anyone has to give him a hard time, but i'd expect a little ribbing about his selective posting when things are only going well for him.

The Athletic has a fun article by Pete Sampson about Jeff Speaks, ND Philosophy professor, whose last lecture of the semester was "Did ND get screwed by the Committee". He broke down the argument into 2 different categories: The Committee was either Competent or Incompetent and The Committee was either Honest or Corrupt. This allowed for four possible outcomes:
  • Competent and Honest
  • Competent and Corrupt
  • Incompetent and Honest
  • Incompetent and Corrupt
His conclusion - There was a 98.2 percent chance the CFP committee was both incompetent and corrupt.

The eye test just means how good you look in wins and losses. Do you dominate from the start and put backups in the 2nd half? Do you blow a lead on some fluky plays? A lot of those situational eye test stuff can be accounted for with metrics like game control that are baked into a lot of the computer models.
Those are metrics. When the PC says 'eye test' they mean something like "How athletic are Miami's receivers."

i would be interested to know tv ratings this year vs. last for the 1st round playoff games, I haven't watched a second, but the games also have been terrible from what i have read here, and based on the scores, a 10-3 snoozefest in a&m v Um, 2 blowouts over the g5 teams (shocker) and i guess the bama ou game was decent? obviously I am biased, but these playoffs don't seem to have the same vibe as last year.

Well it was also new last year. People who don’t normally care will pretend to for a brief period when something is new.

Regardless, I agree.

The hoopla and fanfare isn’t where it normally is outside of Western Texas, Indiana, and Mississippi.

These are all sparsely populated geographic areas the rest of the country (aka media) doesn’t give a shit about.

It is pandemonium in MS, IN, West Texas

It is business as usual for Ohio, Alabama, Georgia

It is slightly higher water level for Oregon

It is “we have a football team?” in South Florida

The only mega, national fanbases left are royalty used to seeing their team in the final 8. The needle doesn’t move much for them in this position.

good point on it being new last year, if ratings really suck I wonder if it is enough for espn to realize a playoff with ND is better than a playoff without ND? When ND is deserving of course, and this year's team was absolutely deserving and safely one of the 12 best teams in the nation by most metrics. IMO The fans really got screwed, ND and the Love/Price show not in the playoff is a travesty.

Is McGuire trying to get a coaching job at an "SEC/ESPN" school next year or something?
I understand he has hatred of ND, but not really the so pro-conference angle.
Hasn't the SEC irreparably damaged his schools conference?

I have been an inconsistent poster for much of this season. I was also out of the country on vacation directly after the SECCG. I do believe my first post once back was that I disagreed with the Irish being left out of the playoffs.

Further, if there’s one thing I have never done on IE it is gloating, either active or passive

Finally, if you have issues with me or my posts then either reach out to me or hit the ignore button. Enjoy.

Although nothing is set in stone here, this is the type of effect I worry about if ND doesn't continue to line up top P4 matchups moving forward due to the CFP and conference political games...

That it affects ND's recruiting, especially when other P4 teams we're competing with for top recruits exaggerate this and use it against ND to secure recruits as in "why would you want to go to ND and play G5 and military teams and not be on TV playing primetime games on ESPN and ABC?"

We need big time games in Prime Time and we need big CFP games similar to last year - I'm sure nothing did more for ND recruiting than to plow through IU, GA, and Penn State, and go toe to toe with OSU.

Unfortunately, the writing is on the wall. 2030 or so we will be in a conference is my prediction. I think the squeeze is gonna get worse.

We haven’t been really in it for Sales ever during his recruitment. We’ve known Spell had a good visit to UGA for a while, but Loy still thinks ND is the likely destination. None of this has to do with CFP or scheduling.

I wasn't specifically pointing to these recent potential momentum losses, but was just referencing the article as an example of what ND could start to see happen in recruiting if we're not in big season and CFP P4 matchups, more so pointing to the effects of the P4 conferences and teams potentially stonewalling ND to force us into a conference.

We're not there yet, but if the slate of big P4 matchups dries up and all we play are 5 downward-trending ACC teams, BYU, and Navy, it will make recruiting and getting into the CFP more challenging (altho' going to a field of 16 should help for CFP selection).

As I said, we're not there yet, and PB I'm sure is out there rn trying to ensure this doesn't happen, however that needs to happen.

ND has scheduling agreements for the next few years with the elite of CFB. The MOU has no impact once we go to 16 which basically every coach, media member, commissioner and AD endorses. Nobody is squeezing out anybody, USC is just bitch made.

relatedly, if we really do just load up with a schedule designed to produce wins by beating down nerds it's going to be very hard to shift gears come playoff time

I guess like the many other HC, Academic, culture, NIL/TP, and Independence challenges The Irish have experienced over the years, we'll work through it and keep on building a NC-caliber team.

Yeah, I have to say, I've never noticed TTT gloating or anything of the sort. I mean, he is a fan of Alabama lol, so it is unreasonable to expect him to shit on them.
