At least they weren't players that would make or break our season

Come on man !! They are part of the team! They played their hearts out for us out there. Rees came in early did his best and helped win. It is not his fault Kelly played him over the other QBs.

All you mouth-breathing f-tards who are actually celebrating this should be ashamed of yourselves. I am among those who NEVER wanted to see Tommy start another game, but never would I want it to be because he wasn't beat out on the field. Let alone it being for personal reasons... You're all a black eye on our fan base.

Just disappointing. Disappointing for these young mens careers. What a disappointment to their families. What a disappointment to the university and football program and mostly I'm sure they are pretty disappointed in themselves.

Aside from the program and the school, Kelly keeps taking body shots. This is really bad news.

Carlo's arrest is not nearly as serious as Tommy's. Rees had to be pepper sprayed and assaulted a cop. He's in deep ****.

"Normally I would be mad about this, but it's Tommy so see ya. " hahaha

EG needs to take this opportunity to step in as a vocal leader. Its never good to see a ND player making news for the wrong reason and two doing it so soon after spring session is shameful.

Couldn't agree more. This is a bad situation which was obviously the result of a few bad decisions, some of which may have been worse than others. But we have seen individuals deal with such mistakes and become better men because of it, and we can only hope it will happen here. Shame on all of you who celebrate the downfall of an individual because of a football team.

It's funny that some of the same fans who extoll Notre Dame as a family and the university players athletes should go to have the greatest care given to themselves and their education, yet you turn your back in a nonosecond because they weren't the players you wanted on the field? Tommy (and seemingly to a lesser extent Carlo) made a huge, stupid mistake, one that he will have to deal with the repercussions of for a long time. He deserves to be punished and he will. He absolutely does not deserve fans celebrating his demise. It is insane to me how quickly and completely people can lose perspective.

As someone on the law enforcement side, for him to get pepper sprayed is not good. If charges are filed for assaulting a police officer, not good. From now, anytime he has to get his name checked, it will show up. Never wanna be labeled like that.

This is assuming its all true. With that said, why would I feel bad? Dude committed a felony by assaulting a police officer (assuming its true). I certainly don't feel bad about that.

That's too bad for both of those players. Rees needs to take a breath and get his head straight. He needs to realize the opportunity he has at ND regardless if he is the starting QB or not. But it is probably to late for that.

Eh.. When I was a freshman in college I witnessed a 300 lb cop trying to handcuff a drunk 120 lb kid at a party and after the kid wiggled away from his fat *** he charged him with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. Not saying this is what happened but I'll wait until all the facts are in before judging this.

I'm sorry, but the SBPD is not going to pepper spray the starting QB at ND for just "wigglin" away from getting arrested. Tommy is charged with resisting arrest and assault and battery. Like everyone here already knows, battery means he made physical contact with an officer.

Why are you trying to sugar coat this?

Blue and Gold reported that Tommy ran when cops showed up at the house he was at, presumedly because he knew he'd be screwed if caught drinking underage. I could envision a scenario where he was caught and tackled by a cop, and he drunken and instinctively tried to get out of grasp. Stupid and a big mistake, but I have seen it before (I am lucky not to have been caught in my day) and have a really hard time with the idea of crushing a kid and rejoicing at his impending inaction on the football team because of it. Let the justice system play out and let's try and keep perspective.

Being drunk is not an excuse for assault and battery on a police officer.

There's a big difference between upholding justice and extolling suffering. For whatever the reason, you never want bad things to happen to our players. Never.

Wiggling away from a cop trying to arrest you is resisting arrest. Size is irrelevant in that case.

Oh no!! I don't think there has ever been a case of an officer being over zealous and going on a power trip. Like the *** hat leg sweeping unknowing suspects already in cuffs.

werent like a dozen players caught drinking at a party 2 years ago and nothing was said after it bar they were made to do extra conditioning workouts with Longo. There has to be something more than this to the story.

Im sure theres a joke here about Ree's onfield inability to escape the rush also proving true off the field :S
