That's how it's marketed, but it's a very poor choice for home defense. The .410 shot out of a such a short barrel doesn't achieve the necessary velocity to penetrate sufficiently (only 4''-5'' in flesh), and the shallow rifling of the barrel makes it extremely inaccurate when firing .45s.

Classic case of trying to do too many things in one platform and doing none of them well.

This makes with the 45s but is it so inaccurate that you can't hit center mass at 10 yards? That's all the accuracy you need in a home defense situation. And I would think the low muzzle velocity of the .410 would make it ideal for close quarters. 4-5" would do the job on the intruder and the decreased force at impact would decrease wall penetration and reduce risk of striking someone on the other side of the wall. Just a thought.

I would agree with you. It is good for what it is. You aren't going to be doing any long range shooting with this thing!

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not much of a gun guy and don't have much experience shooting. But a few years back I had a meeting in Poland with a government official, and at the end of it, he took me to a government firing range. Next thing you know he hands be a Russian sniper rifle which he said was the dominant weapon used in the Bosnian conflict with the snipers hanging out in the bombed out buildings.

So in my business suit, I'll lying on the ground worried to hell that the kick back was going to destroy my shoulder. Anyway, by the third shot I was knocking down the human shaped target at 200 meters. It is scary how easy it was to be accurate at a distance with that thing.

The FBI minimum benchmark for self-defense ammo is 12'' of penetration, because of the need to reach the central nervous system from oblique angles, after penetrating intermediate barriers, etc. Even with a best-case-scenario full frontal shot, a projectile needs to penetrate at least 7''-8'' inches to reach vital organs. 4''-5'' is grossly inadequate penetration for a self-defense round.

Poor accuracy is also a deal breaker. In life and death situations, trigger discipline goes to hell. Cops, who train a lot more than the average civilian, only hit with ~30% of their shots on the street. There's no reason to trust your life to an inaccurate firearm.

At one point in my life I held my M16 closer to me at night than I've ever held any woman, so I'd have to say it's the coolest weapon ever.

My pump action 30.06 still the best damn deer rifle I've owned.
My 30-30 just something about a lever action that makes me feel like "I am rolling"
Colt 1911A1 just feels perfect in my hand.
On my look in the sights list
The Beowulf.

I'll have a 1911A1 someday. And I know something you roll into with that 30-30. It rhymes with Mary Mandusky.
