As of now it appears ND's opening game will be the second round winner of 6 Seed (USF) versus the winner of the first round game between #11 SJU and #14 Nova.

ND's next opponent on Friday would come from the winner's of the first round game between #15 PC and #10 UCON who then plays #7 UL. The winner of that second round game then plays #2 Marquette to determine ND's SemiFinal Opponent for the Friday 9 PM game.

Big East Tournament 2012: Saturday Afternoon Bracket Update - SB Nation New York

Big East Tournament 2012: Saturday Afternoon Bracket Update
Mar 03 4:22p
by Jared Smith

Four Big East Conference men's basketball regular-season finales are in the books for Saturday, and the Big East Tournament 2012 field is almost set. The final scores of the afternoon games changed Friday's update to the bracket and schedule a lot.

Here's what the Big East Tournament would look like as of 4:15 p.m. ET on Saturday (scenarios for tonight's games are below the bracket):

Tuesday, March 6 (First Round):
Noon ET: (No. 16-seed) DePaul Blue Demons vs. (9) Seton Hall Pirates
2 p.m.: (13) Pittsburgh Panthers vs. (12) Rutgers Scarlet Knights
7 p.m.: (15) Providence Friars vs. (10) Connecticut Huskies
9 p.m.: (14) Villanova Wildcats vs. (11) St. John's Red Storm

Wednesday, March 7 (Second Round on ESPN):
Noon: (WINNER of No. 16/9) vs. (8) West Virginia Mountaineers
2 p.m.: (WINNER of No. 13/12) vs. (5) Georgetown Hoyas
7 p.m.: (WINNER of No. 15/10) vs. (7) Louisville Cardinals
9 p.m.: (WINNER of No. 14/11) vs. (6) South Florida Bulls

Thursday, March 8 (Quarterfinal Round on ESPN):
Noon: (WINNER of Wed. Noon Game) vs. (1) Syracuse Orange
2 p.m.: (WINNER of Wed. 2 p.m. Game) vs. (4) Cincinnati Bearcats
7 p.m.: (WINNER of Wed. 7 p.m. Game) vs. (2) Marquette Golden Eagles
9 p.m.: (WINNER of Wed. 9 p.m. Game) vs. (3) Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Friday, March 9 (Semifinal Round on ESPN):
7 p.m.: (WINNER of Thurs. Noon Game) vs. (WINNER of Thurs. 2 p.m. Game)
9 p.m.: (WINNER of Thurs. 7 p.m. Game) vs. (WINNER of Thurs. 9 p.m. Game)

Saturday, March 10 (Championship Round on ESPN):
9 p.m.: WINNERS of Semifinal-Round Games

Note: Bracket is based on current Big East Standings. Here's what could happen later tonight:

■If the Seton Hall Pirates defeat the DePaul Blue Demons on Saturday night, they leapfrog the West Virginia Mountaineers for the No. 8 seed. BGIF NOTE: Seton Hall is losing by 13 to DePaul at the half.

■Meanwhile, a St. John's loss to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights drops them to No. 14, while Rutgers would move into the 12-13th spot depending on the tiebreakers. A Johnnies victory keeps them at No. 11, while the Scarlet Knights would just flip-flop with the Pittsburgh Panthers for the No. 12-13 seeds.

I agree with NDPhilly. I like our chances against either USF or Nova a lot more than St. Johns. They seem to get seriously preferential treatment in the Garden every single year... both in the regular season and BE tourney.

And remember they blew tons of calls before this.

Rutgers just beat St. Johns. ON Thursday night we are playing the winner of USF vs. Rutgers/Nova. These are all teams that we have beaten. A win there should secure a minimum of a 5 seed for us.

I really like Notre Dame's draw here. None of these potential opponents strike me with fear until the semifinals.

Irish started terrible as USF jumped out to a 20-8 lead. Since then, our defense has locked down and sparked an 18-0 run. If Scott Martin could score on fast breaks, it would be a 10-point lead.

26-24 with 2 mins to play in the first half. This one will go down to the wire, IMO.

EDIT: USF scores at the buzzer (poor execution on our end) to make it 28-26 at halftime.

What is up with Atkins lately? Missing both free throws and three point attempts.

Why has Cooley been so bad tonight? He's been sitting their on the bench for the crunch in the second half. A winner would demand to be in.

HUGE win. The last thing we needed was a loss to drop us to a 7/8 seed where we'd have to face a 1-seed or 2-seed in the 2nd Round (if we can not choke for once).

Louisville is a tough matchup, but there won't be an easy game in the semifinals of the BET. It would really help our seed to get to our first Big East Tournament final.

Louisville is beatable. Gotta think ND shoots better and Cooley gets more involved. Those long scoring droughts are tough to sit through. But these guys perform best when the game's on the line--I like ND's chances as much as any of the teams left to win the BET.

ND-Louisville is always close. Should be a good game. If we can beat them and Cincy upsets Cuse, I think we'll definitely win the BE tourney. If Syracuse wins, I really don't see any way ND can win. We barely beat them at home with their star center not playing. Not to mention, if not for us, they'd be undefeated, so they certainly won't lack motivation. Regardless, I just want to see this team get to the Sweet 16.

Interesting stance. I think Cincy has a shot at beating Cuse (they need to light it up from beyond the arc and keep Gates hot after his game against Georgetown yesterday), and if that happens, I don't quite understand how it would be a given that ND would "definitely" win the BE, considering the whooping UC put on ND in their meeting this year. I know it was an outlier for the Irish, but UC has been tough all year. I think they are 7-2 against top 50 opponents, so I don't think you should quite look past them. Also, don't see how ND would have no shot in a rematch with Cuse. ND is quite the same as UC: if they get hot shooting the three, they are a tough out for anyone.
