I'm not saying I appreciate guys trying to injure someone, but I do appreciate guys going HAM when they hit someone.
Of course a lot of the older veterans of the league past and present are saying no big deal but these same folks are crying about post NFL life. Maybe it really isn't the NFL's fault as they claim. Maybe they should look within themselves.
A bunch of hypocrites.
AGREED!
this is such a bunch of garbage on all levels...I don't doubt this bounty stuff was done in varying degrees for a long time...I don't doubt the Comish knows about it...what pisses me off is they are all liars...PR whores who won't just be who they are...
if you want bounties...fine, but don't say they are illigal. If they are illigal, then you can't turn a blind eye, which appears to be what Roger Boy has been doing.
if you don't care about safety, and life after football for these guys...then don't say you care. Don't spend money on studies, and PR...just tell these guys to make sure they have hospice in their retirement plans and move on. Seriously...how in the hell can this be prevalent, and a known practice yet no one has dealt with it...F^&CK...Just have the nuts to be who you are...don't lie to people.
Oh...I"m sorry ladies...I thought we were talking about FOOTBALL.
A game in which you hit other people. Where big hits are celebrated by fans and media alike. A game in which, in fact, you are being paid to light guys up anyway.
Every defensive player in the NFL can be labled a "Bounty Hunter" if you think about it. And whether Williams was involved or not, the players do it on their own.
Nothing wrong with giving your guys a little more incentive to go out and knock some heads around.
As far as "player safety"?? You play football for a living. You know it's gonna end one day. Maybe instead of buying that 4th mansion, you set aside some cash for future health issues that may arise. Just a thought. I put it like this: Big risk, big reward. You don't have to play....

Ask Dave Duerson's family about putting money aside for post football for health issues. He shot himself in the chest to insure medical experts could study the effects of this game on the human brain. That entire statement you just made is ignorant in my opinion. It's a violent enough game without guys going bounty hunting. You shouldn't need to put a bounty on someone to make the game exciting. I understand it happens, many players recent comments have made that abundantly clear, but it doesnt make it right. Ask Merrill Hoge if he wished he could've gotten knocked around for a bounty. As it was, he had to re learn how to read.
...disagree with your staement that there is nothing wrong with it...already a rule that says you can't...so in my book rather folks want to turn the sport into flag football or not is immaterial. Enforce the rule...or kill it. ...so everyone knows the rules...
I understand the game is violent...but the league should just STFU about all this caring PR business, and be who they are. Or do things consistant with the caring concern message...
When you do what I think Roger Boy has done here, you create a situation where criminal behavior is rewarded...as one previous poster mentioned ala baseball. Its a form of hypocrisy that makes people nuts...(especially me) because all the rewards go to the cheaters, not the guys who follow the rules...Nobody to nail Goodell for being a douche, but I want it to be so miserable for goodell he has to give Williams the death penalty...and it has nothing to do with me wanting to turn the sport into flag football.

You mean the same criminal behaivor that we are all guilty of enjoying? Perhaps the greatest summer in baseball HISTORY was when two guys juicing were chasing baseballs homer record at one time. NFL set records in TV auidences this year.
Man, we sure hate those hypocrites.
So this "holier than art thou" attitude that fans have about sports and hypocrisy needs to stop.
If anything, we're even bigger hypocrites for watching.
So now you're claiming Dave Duerson was a victim of bounties? Or Merrill Hoge was?? Come on.
See, this is where it's going. Now EVERYONE who's ever suffered an injury will be screaming "bounty"?@!?!?!?!?!! He must've been targeted!!! Like the "bullying" thing in schools these days.
Football is a tough sport. Guys are gonnna get hurt, bad. But that's the price you pay to make millions of dollars. Again, you can go get another job. You dont' have to play football.
And I think the "bounty hunting" thing is overblown. I seriously doubt there will be a shred of proof that proves that they were actually trying to end someones career or seriously hurt them. Like the players are saying, it was just an incentive to play hard and be rewarded for those decleaters.
Again, just get rid of tackling. With the new rule changes and now this, just get rid of it and save football players the injuries. Because we need to protect them from themselves. Because they're grown men and can't handle that.

the hypocrite you're talking about is Bud Selig who turned a blind eye to the steroid fiasco to increase revenue.. the unknowing fans did not have the responsibility to stop PEDs in baseball, Selig did
just like we don't have the responsibility to clean up the NFL, Roger does.. he also has the responsibility to not be two faced.. he needs to just say it how it is
Please highlight the area of my post were I said Duerson and Hoge were victims of bounties. I made the point to show the that no amount of money can be set aside to cure some of the injuries that are inflicted on these guys. The game is inherently violent enough, we agree on that. The game does not benefit from bounties.
No proof that they were actually trying to end someones career or seriously hurt them? How about the $10,000 Jonathan Vilma offered to anyone on the team that provided the knock out shot on Favre? Not proof enough, it is for me.
A knock out shot is what players are going for on every down. Nothing out of the ordinary there.
Now if he said he'd pay for someone to end his career? Or specifically break his leg or twist his knee?? I get you. But the NFL is full of violent plays and violent talk.
This is nothing special.
again disagree...
Fans unwittingly cheering for a cheater is not hypocrissy...its ignorance. I think when fans catch on to systemic sh!t like baseball...the day of reconing comes...if folks were hypocrites, wouldn't baseball be all the rage? Is it? I honestly think I watched more baseball in any year on average than I have in the years since this all went down.
Lemme ask you this...What about the guys who didn't cheat...how were their compensation packages...where'd their achievements show up? Which clean guys never made a roster because other guys cheated.
I hate people who get over...That simple. I'm not hypocritical (well I try not to be)...fair play zealot I guess...
Clearly you and I see things differently. I will no longer argue this point w you, it is time I will never get back.
A. You honestly think that fans didn't know guys were juicing? Again, that's BS and you and I both know it.
B. Baseball is doing just fine. It's still a SOLID #2 next to the NFL. So it's not hurting.
And I'm not advocating for cheaters, just stating the fact that we all knew it was going on and we all enjoy watching the big hits and big homeruns and as long as it's never in the news, we can sit back fat and happy and ignore the elephant in theh room.
irishpat183, you scare me...
Bounty hunting and playing hard are two different things and what has happened here with the Saints (now the Rams) coach is just wrong. Trying to "spin it" to make it seem like its not a big deal really makes me worried about where football fans are headed...
