hahahha at whoever said Kendall Fuller. He would be our biggest get in the 2013 class getting him on campus would be a win in its own right.

It's gotta be Bivin. That being said, I'm confident that the staff has already learned from slow playing certain guys. This is definitely a staff that adapts and grows from year to year. One of my favorite things about them.

If someone could start a new thread about recruiting missed or lack of offer.

Example, Luke Kuechly supposedly wanted to be Irish but did not get an offer-now a top 15 pick that blew up the combine and goes to NFL after junior year??? WTF- How did we miss that? Anybody from Ohio know the story???? What a miss in our Notre Dames back yard!

I am not sure how to start a new thread

We had the same record in each of Kelly's first two years, and his first full recruiting class was better than this past one. Not sure how you can say that it's a 'staff that adapts and grows from year to year,' especially when we just had to replace three coaches...

So because they happened to have the same record and because by team ranking standards this class was lower than his first that means they haven't adapted or grown in recruiting at all? Really? I guess they're following the same strategy and philosophy as they did when the got here in 2009. My bad.

I think we need to start recruiting more CB's.. unless we are and there's just no news, but only two CB recruits have been talked about since February 21st (2 1/2 pages on the '13 thread).. we should be taking 3 this year, no?

No, it means that you have no tangible proof of your statement. Who cares if they're adapting if the results aren't there?

Horrible assistant coaches and talent evaluators. There is an article on how Tenuta was at one of Kuechly's games that he dominated and still passed on him for Dan Fox. Because Kuechly looked "nerdy" out of pads. Can't make this **** up.

Many college All-Americans weren't the top prospects in high school – USATODAY.com

Granted, there are misses by coaches every year... but the fact that ND had a revolving door at DC and none of those that came in had a clue what they were doing really doomed us.

Priest Willis, LJ Moore, Nadir Barnwell, MacKensie Alexander, Leon McQuay III, Vernon Hargreaves III, Chris Hawkins

All 4* corners or higher being recruited

A lot of people missed on Keuchly, not just ND. His best offer was probably BC.

You're right, they shouldn't even TRY to learn from their mistakes or miscues in recruiting! Wow how foolish would that be?!?

So now we're praising the staff for their effort, regardless of whether or not that effort pays off? ND football has fallen far, hasn't it?

I'd like to nominate this for your new avatar...

And yes, you praise the staff for their efforts.

Wasn't their fault about the Armsteads, Poole, etc... (although I'm sure you disagree)

If they didn't even try (Willingham era) then yeah, go ahead play armchair QB about our coaching, but Kelly and company bust their asses on the recruiting trail, and anyone that follows this site knows that.

it's my opinion that it's too early to praise the staff and also too early to criticize them.. I agree with DillonHall that results haven't been produced yet, but I also feel there hasn't been enough time to judge.. so no, I won't say the staff is doing a great job and progressing each year, but I also won't say they suck.. it's just too early

Stephon Tuitt and Aaron Lynch say hello

Oh, and George Atkinson does too

I have a kid who loved rain storms, I mean unnaturally so.

Once I asked him why. He replied, "Because they make great puddles to play in!"

He went on to be all league, and all district, in football, declined several college schollarship offers, including Cornell, and went on to get his bachelors, and masters in business, becoming a happily married husband and father who is looking forward to playing in puddles with his children.

So does Kyle Rudolph, Jimmy Clausen, and Michael Floyd.

You can recruit great individual players all you want and sometimes land a few, but the bottom line is results matter more in the grand scheme of things and this team underperformed last year and that falls on the coaching staff.

I think they have taken some steps in the right direction and I like what they have done in recruiting, but who is to say if ND doesn't win a few more games that some of the kids they lost in recruiting are not swayed by sharks like Urban Meyer or Lane Kiffin (who can and I am sure do) use the old, "Notre Dame can't win the big one and are not relevant anymore." What is the response to something like that? It's time to step up and win football games. Look no further than what Michigan has done to see the effect that winning has on a program and what happens when a sleeping giant awakens. ND certainly has that same potential and it's time to finally turn that corner.

I completely agree that the results need to show on the field, and they haven't as much as they should have. But I also couple that with the statement that Kelly inherited a bad situation and is trying to change the direction of the program.

And with that being said, I was only referring to how they're changing their strategies in recruiting. I thought that was a subject that had been discussed frequently around these parts.

Yeah, I will praise them for an effort that is far and away better than the previous staff. It's a step in the right direction. Last time I checked, that was a good thing. It's too bad we didn't go 10-2 with a BCS bowl last year, but I get the feeling that some would say that Kelly and the staff have tried to change things in a positive way from what they inherited. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt going forward. I'm not going to just take a negative look at everything they do.

We see eye to eye when comparing the overall abilities of Kelly and his staff to Weis and his coaches. However, I don't think effort was the main issue for Weis. He worked his *** off in doing everything he could for his alma mater. Coach Weis was instrumental in attaining a large amount of recruiting success during his five years. Maybe some of his coaches were lacking in effort, but guys like Polian were also great recruiters.

Bottom line: it's going to take more than effort to turn this program around because Weis was anything but lazy. The cohesiveness of the staff, the willingness to try different approaches (such as night games, new helmets, training table), and Kelly's past record provide sources for optimism. But I disagree that their effort is something to be excited about; Kelly's just doing what he gets paid millions of dollars to do.

I agree. Sure, he does get paid millions to do it. But it's also exciting to see where it goes for the program, right? Or what else are we doing as fans if we don't get excited?

Is it me or is the 2013 prospect pool the deepest and most talented it's been in years?
