I don't want Indiana being #1 on that list but I feel if it is a top 4 state in our recruiting it only benefits us. We SHOULD get the top talent in our own state. Build California and Florida back up then build New Jersey and Texas and ND football will be in a good place. I would like to see those rankings as follows:
1. California
2. Florida
3. Indiana
4. Ohio
5. Texas
6. New Jersey
7. Illinois
8. Pennsylvania

I think those top 8 states are exactly where you want to be.

Throw in Arizona, Georgia, Maryland, and Virginia and I'd be very satisfied with our coverage.

You want Indiana as our top state?

decent football, yes, but not a bunch of TOP TIER talent... However, I still want to see Indiana at the top because it is all the more reason for a kid like Gunner Kiel, Sheldon Day, Jaylon Smith, Tim K. (if we offer) to stay in Indiana and go to Notre Dame. We have to retain the top talent in Indiana when it comes through, we did very well in 2012, but Jaylon Smith is an absolutely MUST for so many reasons.

Thanks Mr. Obvious! The Mr. Obvious Show - The Critter - YouTube

I am not saying not recruit the state or anything like that. I think it should be top 3/4 but imagine if our own state is only 3rd or 4th best state with states like Florida, California in front. We would be RICH with talent.

Well no ****. Fact of the matter is, it is a challenge to find kids who fit the ND profile and want to be at ND. Using my brain, I would conclude that there are more people in Indiana that grew up as ND fans. If offered, I would imagine that they would commit at a greater rate. If we start winning in consecutive seasons, then we might be able to dip into other states more.

Here is a kid I found in Ohio, NWo near me to be exact. Class of '14. Nobody knows him, my daughter-in-law who coaches track at a rival school noted that he was running an 11 flat in the hundred as an eighth grader! This kid is really fast, had almost 800 yards, starting 7 games as a wing back. Was an excelent blocker. His measurables and grades are great. He needs to work on his strength. He was 6'1 1/2" as a sophmore, and about 185. He has grown about a half an inch and put on about ten lbs. He now has a strength coach, and I would characterize him as a late bloomer. I think this guy could play; what do you think?

Send his info to Alford.

can people do that? Does he ever pay attention? :p
Kid looks pretty good though, I have to admit that... how good is the competition though, some of the clips seemed like poor defenses. However, would love to see Junior highlights when they come around.

To expound on double T, Indiana has made progress in leaps and bounds in the 10-12 years....its had talent, just never had any depth to the talent. Football is now going on 12 months a year like it does down in the south and Cali. Schools down south have been running spring drills forever, not the case here in Indiana. Not till about turn of the century have they been doing spring 7-7 drills. Ft. Wayne in particular has turned out NFL kids in the last 8-10 years. We did produce Rod Woodson, but that's been over 20 years ago. Jason Fabini in the 90's, but its been sporadic at best. Bishop Dwenger and Bishop Luers in particular have been sending kids every year to top Div 1 schools. ND, IU, MSU, Purdue, Illinois, OSU, and an assortment of MAC schools. That's just Ft. Wayne, Indy is ahead of us in terms of how long they've been running 7-7 drills and thus they've been ahead of us in terms of producing kids. I'm not saying we're going to start churning out as many elite kids as Texas or Cali, but the elite kids coming out of Indiana are on par with those around the country, we just don't have the depth as the other states.
