And Brey has an awesome vertical he was showing off in that video.

I'm stunned by this team and starting to get my hopes up. It is very realistic that they finish 6-3

20-11/12-6 should be enough for a bid out of the Big East.

Plus in 12 years at ND he has 3 Coach of the Year awards from the #1 or #2 conference. That's impressive

Other than that: FIRE BREY

I believe it was Samspon that reported that Martin and Abro can not get sixth years. Sixth years are designated to people who have had two season ending injuries. Other than that Brey has done marvels with this team this year.

That's just flat out wrong. But good effort by Sampson.... I guess.

I don't know how it effects Martin or Abro but this is the rule

For the most part, baseball players—and athletes in all sports—have five years to complete their four seasons of eligibility with a redshirt year included. In rare cases, the NCAA may permit a player to extend his eligibility over a six-year period. For the NCAA to grant a second redshirt season, the player must have missed all or most of two of his five years because of circumstances beyond his control. If he missed one of the five years because he took a voluntary redshirt season, he will not be eligible for a sixth year.

Since Martin transferred for his own purpose, would that be classified as a voluntary redshirt?

I actually hope Martin graduates and moves on. Connaughton is going to be a great player at the #3, and if Abro somehow gets a 6th year then obviously he will start there. Biedschied won't start but will play a lot of minutes, maybe even spelling Grant at times if he can handle well enough in the college game.

I actually think that would be more than enough. 10 wins in the big east puts you in the mix.

I think 11-12 would make it a lock.

If they beat Marquette on Saturday (which will be tough, Marquette is very good, but definitely possible with the way they've been playing), they'll be tied for second in the Big East. Crazy.

Edit: Sorry, Marquette plays Seton Hall before they play us, so my post isn't accurate.

What if Abro didn't get hurt and Carlton Scott didn't bolt??? Would we be dominating this year?

I mean it is just amazing how he has taken the hand he was dealt (which was full of inexperience and questionable/undeveloped talent) and gotten the team to play winning basketball. This team was SO bad at the beginning of the year after Abro went down... which is very understandable when you lose your go-to scorer and captain out of the blue. But he has come up with gameplans to beat some really good teams and adjusted the team on the fly to get players playing to their strengths.

The most interesting thing to me is that Mike Brey of ~5-7 years ago could never do what this Brey is doing in terms of adjustments. It's been very interesting to watch this evolution.

yeah... but what can he do in the Tournament.

Lose in the first round regardless of seed maybe? It seems to me Brey does best the more familiar he becomes with the competition. He figures out ways to beat the pesky Syracuse zone plus Pitt and UConn over the years but putting a game plan together quickly doesn't seem to happen.

Marquette's style of play has been very effective vs. Brey. We are at home so we have a chance, I have seen too many losses at Milwaukee over the years but at home we do well against anyone.

It has forever baffled me why we tried to out run the Big East all these years when we will usually be the less athletic team on the court. The current style of play fits us well and now that we have some people that can slash to the paint and create off the dribble, it opens things up more.

I hope he never abandons the burn. I would rather win a bunch than score a bunch any day of the week.

Guys, Mike Brey and Muffet McGraw are absolutely killing it. We have two very young talented teams and I think two of the very best coaches in their respective sports. These teams are fearless. Congrats and Kudos!!!

Agreed the guys are very young but the women are not that young. They lose 3 starters next year and a frequent substitute to graduation.

None the less they both are doing great this year. Can not wait for March Madness.

Very true, I guess I was referring more to the quality of recruits they both are bringing in, they are recruiting and landing the kind of players that were few and far between a few years ago.

Yeah they are both on the rise, especially with the recruits coming in. The women may become the team to reckon with for the next 3-5 years.

The guys are on the same path, they have a lot of talent on this team that has finally found their roles. Things should only get better.

We really should have a certain 6'8" freshman/early enrollee playing for this team right now. Looking at you Arik. Does Oregon even have a BBall team?

Brey is a good coach, but he's had mediocre results. Is that contradictory? Maybe...

I would trade both of those in for a conference tourney trophy or a Final Four run.

I'm still ticked CBS regional coverage didn't have Sunday's game. Despise Marquette and really would have liked to see the whooping we layed on them.

A conference coach of the year award would be more aptly titled if it were called the 'coach of the surprise team of the year' award. Of the years that Brey has won the award in the Big East, how many times has he actually won the conference?
