I kinda cringed when I saw the thread to begin with because as we all know, there are few things that shouldn't be discussed publicly with politics and religion being in that group...However, while I happen to like President Obama, I don't agree with all the policies he has...the same could be said for my feelings of President Bush...HOWEVER, as it has been said above me, there is a certain level of respect that should be paid to the leader of your country...Yes, a finger in the face, in terms of insults/disrespect, pales in comparison to having your citizenship question over and over again and other things that OUR current president has faced...Honestly, if he got a shoe thrown at him while on a trip to the middle east, I'd get a slight chuckle out of that because I find it to be hilarious...No matter whether I like the guy and/or his policies or not. I do believe we can all agree that the ONLY person to point his finger in the President's face is this guy....

Wow. I really don't know what to say. I'm not trying to get into a back and forth about this, but you should really reconsider your views and statement. I'd say it's highly inappropriate and misguided.

Just being honest. I don't care that they view shoe throwing as an insult. Or that women have no rights. Or they stone people in public.

I care about how things are viewed here. Call me whatever you want.

While I can apperciate cultures and diversity....I dont' have to accept it. Especially if it is disrespectful to MY way of life or to my country.

My fellow Irish fan,

Yes, there are some things in the Middle East that make me scratch my head and strike me as backwards thinking, but that does not apply to the entire Middle East. They are people just like you and me, and painting a broad brush over them is bluntly unfair.

The world is much bigger than the immediate area in which you live. Your views are not universal. People simply think differently in other parts of the world. There's nothing wrong with that.

And.. how dangerous is throwing a shoe really?

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pIwLJtqoxBs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Are you saying that people in Afghanistan that participate in gang rapes, honor killings, throwing acid on women's faces and cutting off their noses if they want to go to school are just cuddly, misunderstood bearded guys? Geez, how naive are you? Don't lecture people about how great the Middle East is when they treat women worse than most people in the USA treat a raccoon that has already been run over.

Plus, if I was Secret Service, the second shoe being thrown would have been that man's last act on this planet. Two to the chest and one to the head. I still can't believe there was no greater reaction and show of force with a direct threat to our President. How do you know the shoe wasn't some sort of weapon or explosive?

Thanks again for the lecture on how to impose liberal morality on anyone that disagrees with your appeasement world view. US Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry is dead as a direct result of actions by AG Eric Holder and President Obama. There our ranchers who have been murdered on their own property by drug/human smugglers from Mexico. Yet Obama does nothing and that is why Gov Brewer called him out. You are a liberal apologist that views America as just another country with the same morals and values as men in Iran, unbelievable...

But none of that matters. It's all about appearing compassionate.

I don't know exactly what specifically you don't agree with; however, that's how it is when it comes to political discussions...Agree to disagree...Also, please note that while I said I would get a chuckle out of it...I COMPLETELY understand that it's a disrespectful act towards our leader at the time...

I disagree with this with every ounce of my being. They should be discussed 1000000x more than sports. Take your beliefs, discuss and argue about them, bash them against others' beliefs, opinions, facts and stances and see what is still standing.

The worst thing can happen is that you are wrong, and even that isn't bad because you ultimately just learned something and are thus better off for it.

No. Being the President shouldn't earn you respect from anyone until you earn it. What has Obama done to earn my respect? Why should Gov Brewer, when handing the President an amicable "welcome to Arizona, let's have lunch some time" card only to receive a "Listen I don't like how you talked about me in your book!" in return not do what she did? He is not our emperor.

When the cameras are off, Obama is a sneaky mofo and he is as nasty as the rest of them. He's probably the greatest speaker of our time, and a brilliant political tactician, but he is a nasty guy too. He puts on a great facet, as all politicians do though.

If I were Brewer I'd have told him to **** off and GTFO of Arizona until he enforces national immigration laws to the extent the people there want.

Thata boy! Politics should be talked about!! And while I may disagree, I mean no disrespect to my Irish brothers and I never want to make anything personal. We are all free in this country to have those views.

She extended her hand, and got attitude in return. Sorry, this isn't China. We don't bow to our leaders, we follow the good ones and are free to slam the ones that aren't so good.

I wasn't trying to address your lack of "caring" about the Arab world nor your views on shaking a finger vs. throwing a shoe. Whether or not I agree with them, they are your opinions and I have no quarrel.

However, I do take issue with your categorization of the Arab world being "animalistic" since you're slandering an entire ethnicity and ascribing the actions of some to the entire lot. You are aware that there are a fair number of Arab Christians as well? As far as I know, Arab Christians along with many Arab Muslims do not stone people nor condone the stoning people.

I wholly agree that women's rights should be promoted in Muslim countries and I find some of their extreme religious practices entirely condemnable. Should we accept those practices? Obviously not. Should we paint all Arabs with a broad brush and attribute the worst actions and beliefs upon an entire ethnicity? I would say no to that also.

I'm not asking you to change your beliefs. I would suggest that you be a bit more careful with calling out an entire ethnicity when your beef seems to be with a smaller subset.

Buster, I respect all productive, thoughtful and intelligent political conversation...don't get me wrong...I try to be as informed as I possibly can be before I open my mouth about the subject...I try to get information from different sources, with different views, and then come to my own conclusion...I guess what I'm trying to say is that I worry that intelligent conversation (which I'm more than positive you and those with different views are capable of) will devolve into something nasty...It's a subject that people are extremely passionate about which can often times lead to things getting out of hand...Politics and things of that nature that impact me on a personal level should be discussed, but I was of the mind that this is Irish Envy: Notre Dame Football Discussion...that's all...good day ya'll, I now have to get back to tutoring kids in math...lol

Please don't turn this into a personal thing. And as I stated in my post, I wasn't trying to get into a back and forth. If you want to take a look at my previous post, I tried to explain myself more clearly. Obviously this is a hot topic and I don't want to get into it any more than I have to...I prefer to discuss Notre Dame football on this board but I thought you were incorrect in your categorization of Arabs as "animalistic" and stated so.

Arab does not equal Muslim. Arab does not equal stone throwing/women oppressing.

Arab does equal an ethnicity, among which there are Christians as well as progressives as well as many that would probably join your condemnation of the practices of some of their fellow Arabs.

My ultimate point is, please be conscientious of who exactly you're calling out. If you and others on this board disagree, so be it.

HA....And Bush deserved a lot of the flak he got, no doubt...And I don't feel sorry for any politican. I wasn't really a fan of Bush....but he wasn't any worse than Obama. The same things that liberals destroyed Bush about (war mongering, oil profittering, and wall street deals) Obama is doing himself!!

As far as your boarder comment-Neither does Obama or anyone else in washington...so they need to stay outta it. Let these boarder states (I live in one) take care of it the way they see fit if you're not gonna do your job on the federal level.

Really, I thought we just pulled all of the combat troops out of Iraq? I thought we've drawn down troops in Afgahnistan? Have we started new wars since Obama took office? I don't think we sent troops into Libya. Oil you say? Seems to me he's getting crushed by Newt and Mit on the campaign trail for not pushing forward with the oil pipeline from Canada to Texas. Same is being said about how he is treating Wall Street. He just said in his State of the Union that there will be no more bail outs for being "too big to fail banks". Time will tell if he sticks to this.

By the way, it's Border. You are being somewhat confusing with your next statement. Do you want the Federal Government to "stay outta it" so the state can take care of it only if they can't take care of things on the federal level? Would you say the same thing after a tornado blows through your state or there is a terrorist attack in your state? Or is it ok to expect federal help when that happens? No Feds...until I need them!

Did you even read what I said? I think you misunderstood my post (especially if u don't read in context of my response to Irishpat)

Yes, there are some things in the Middle East that make me scratch my head and strike me as backwards thinking,

i.e. gang rapes, honor killings, throwing acid on people's face. I don't agree with that at all and think that's wrong. But I don't believe those things apply to everywhere in the Middle East i.e. painting people with a broad brush.

The world is much bigger than the immediate area in which you live. Your views are not universal. People simply think differently in other parts of the world. There's nothing wrong with that.

I was referring to Irishpat's disregard for what people view as an insult. I was simply saying people have different views on what constitutes an insult, and while he may see it one way, he's not the only person on the planet.

You don't necessarily know my views on the middle east and based on our misunderstanding, you may be surprised that we agree on the same things. I'm not trying to impose my views on anyone, especially in a political thread, but I refuse to be narrow minded and unaccepting of people different from me. Don't be so quick to judge.

Well, on the plus side: there are enough ignorant, uninformed, half-baked, simplistic ten cent opinions in this thread to last IE the whole year! (Or a 12 minute segment on AM radio!)

As would a majority of Americans today would like to throw much more than an insult at the "community organizer" that's half-heartedly trying to impersonate the role of a president!

This is part of the problem in politics today. I'm no fan of Obama, but I respect the Office, and the work that the man put in, to make it to the Office. You don't have to like the man, but show some respect for the fact that he is the President! He's done some good things. Not enough to convince me to vote for him, instead of a credible challenger, but he's done some good. Osama Bin Laden is dead, there are nine less kidnapping pirate scumbags running around Somalia, and there are two less hostages in the same country. Again, I'm not campaigning for the guy. If someone credible runs against him, I'll likely be voting for them. But I'm not going to completely bash the guy, either.

As usual, another political thread proves how fukking stupid we are for getting sucked in to these idiotic debates. IPat...We get it. You don't like Obama.... I, on the other hand detest everything with an (R) following their last name. That said, the office occupied by the President of the Fukking United States of American should get a little damn respect. If you have an axe to grind and you decide to put on a show in front of the camera, you are officially a piece of crap. Drag your tired arse behind closed doors and air your dirty laundry there. This was nothing but a photo op for this pig. Nothing more.

Strongly agree with this post. I think it's not just fine, but great, that people discuss ideas. Some folks hate political debate; they should stay away. Others personalize disagreement; they should grow up. Keep the debate on the substance, on the ideas, and not use it as a gateway to personal insults, and it's great for everyone.

This is what is wrong with America. Everyone points fingers instead of trying to solve our damn problems!! Both sides need to get their effing act together to get us out of this damn mess that multiple congresses and presidents have put us in.

Thats the problem with this thread though. No one in here is interested in actually coming in and listening to others in the hope that it may change their position on the issue. There is no "learning" or "growing" going on in here. Pat and Buster (just pointing you two out since you've been the most vocal) will not change their minds about their political ideology based on the contents of this thread. Same with the democrats in here. This means that all we are doing is having a pointless argument which is going to eventually lead to someone throwing a potshot in about someones political beliefs. The party that has just been slighted will strike back, which will lead to this thread becoming a poisonous dump of hatred. I'm all for enlightened discussion, but it doesn't exist in this thread and will most likely end with someone saying something that they shouldn't. Which is why I have a simple solution...

And I could give a s*** about the "arab" world or their animalistic ways. In American, where we live, throwing a shoe is throwing a shoe. It's a lot more dangerous than wagging a finger.

You wanna insult someone, you don't do it by throwing something.

Totally helped your case with that one. Racist comments always make you look smarter.
