I think these guys sometimes know more than you think, but I'd agree that a lot of time it is just speculation and guessing.
Perhaps, and yeah, sometimes they do. But wasn't it Sampson who said we'd get Kiel...back in mid-December? Perhaps Sampson knew then that what would actually happen is he wouldn't actually verbal to ND, ride it out a while longer, commit to EE at LSU, then switch back to ND at literally the 11th hour.
I'm all for the best players coming to ND and I'm all for absorbing as much info as I can. What I'm against though, is hailing the praises of modern day Nostradamus'. Right now, TP (and I don't mean to pick on him or single him out. You can throw Sampson, Epitome, or whomever you'd like into this. I'm using TP as an example.) is basking in the Amir Carlisle news (other posters on here knew about it as well)...which lasted as a "secret" for all of about 30 minutes. He then says we all be happy come signing day. Oh, and also that there will be another "big" name. Well, news flash-- the vast majority of reasonable ND fans are already happy with ND's class. The only other guy(s) who was close to making a decision at the time of that "proclamation" was Armstead(s). He/they didn't decide then. We may OR MAY NOT get one or both. The other names being thrown out there were/are Thompson, Neal, Agholor, DGB, and several others. I just find it difficult to swallow that he knows what he's talking about when it comes to kids that are still visiting schools and/or don't have their mind made up. Throwing out vague, cryptic references really, in my mind, only serves a couple purposes-- gets more attention and followers of said fortune teller and strokes the ego of said fortune teller. TP is really in a can't-lose situation-- he maintains credibility by claiming we have a great class (and in reality, we do) and without naming any names, he can later, if need be, claim his prediction was Standifer, Ekanem ("bigger" than whomever it was he said), Darby, or ____. Any poster on here could make a similar claim.
