I'm hearing from buzz on campus here that Ohio State offered a scholarship to a one of Neal's teammates. I guess it's his only D-I offer but OSU will make the room if he gets Neal to come along with him?

Anyone hearing this?

EDIT: found this..

Talked to Davonte Neal. He told me he is expecting an in-home visit from Stan Drayton today. Also of note, he told me his teammate OT/DT Alex Dickman visited with him and that Drayton will be by his house as well today. Some of you asked about back-up options. I have a feeling Dickman is a back-up option or maybe even a preferred walk-on candidate.

...and this:

2012 Scottsdale (AZ) Chapparal OT Alex Dickman just told me he received a full scholarship offer from Stan Drayton tonight during an in-home visit. Dickman also said he would not commit yet, but not to be surprised if he does soon, as his mom was a Buckeye.

So, urban offers his teammate... gets both of them. And pulls neals teammates scholly away after one year? That's my prediction.

I certainly don't think he would pull the schollie after a year. I'm still waiting on someone to show me where Urban has pulled someone's scholarship or kicked someone off the team (if they weren't in trouble with the law). He would more or less be getting Adam Griffin's scholarship. Yes, Adam Griffin will be paying his way now, from what I've heard, but that is because his father is Archie Griffin and they are loaded. It's basically what we all wanted Joe Montana to do with his son to clear space a year or so ago.

Again, f*ck Urban Meyer.

**** Urban Meyer because he's kicking *** right now in recruiting and because of his general BS tactics, but not because of this move in particular IMO. If he ends up dropping this kid's scholarship then I'll totally agree. Otherwise, he's just being strategic in trying to land Neal. Wasn't this the speculation as to why Toma was offered by ND (to help get Te'o)? And isn't this speculated as to why Schyler Miles got so much attention this cycle (because of ties to Nelson)?

Then there was 1995 when Holtz signed a 5-10 LB from Rand HS in W.V. Fans then said he was a "throw in" to make Randy Moss feel comfortable in South Bend. Moss didn't get cleared by ND Admission but the undersized "throw in" Bobbie Howard lettered for 4 years, captained the team as a senior and outran Marshall Faulk 89 yds for an INT TD return. Faulk caught Howard from behind with a horse collar and Bobbie flick his shoulders and tossed Faulk like a flea.

Bottom line is Neal isn't TEBOW. We know urban legend isn't anything without him. This will show for itself hopefully recruits can figure that out.

Do you really believe that?

Urban Meyer is an outstanding coach, with or without Tim Tebow. To say otherwise is pretty ignorant.

Bingo...surprised to use a scholly on the kid, but it is purely strategic.

Are you an OSU fan or something, everything you post seems to be defending tOSU...

I go to Ohio State, but I am by no means a fan of the football program. A perfect Saturday for me is when Notre Dame wins and Ohio State and Michigan lose.

I do take pride in being unbiased though; to say Urban Meyer is anything less than a terrific coach is just silly.

OSU bball program is top notch. Good coaches, good team on the court, and great guys in the community.

gotcha, you like Ohio State's basketball program?

haha well I don't want to hijack Neal's thread...but what the hell.

I generally support the other sports programs. I have had two cousins wrestle at Ohio State, one of whom, JD, was a 3x All-American and has a good shot to make the Olympics this August, and yet another cousin is the captain of the swim team right now. Those guys embody the meaning of student-athlete. Many of the athletes here do, just not most of them and that's the biggest difference between Notre Dame and the rest, "Student. Athlete. Irish."

Ironically, JD grew up wanting to play football for Lou Holtz at Notre Dame. If they had a wrestling program he probably would have played both there.

That said, bring back the damn program please. haha

Back to Neal...

I will be pissed if Urban snags him. Literally furious for a few minutes.

I don't think he does, but that's just me. This is when we make a real stand against Urban and beat him in a head to head recruiting battle.

ohio st's basketball team under matta is like the football team under cooper. great recruiter, but can't coach. they're lucky craft fell into their lap or they wouldn't even be ranked right now.

and i consider myself a buckeye basketball fan.

The connection is that RichRod will be able to say he has his Pat White/Denard Robinson, and he's on his way ...

I agree that Gunner helps us with Neal and Agholor.
