Another recent article on Adam. It looks like he was invited to play in next year's Under Armour and U.S. Army All-American games and chose the Under Armour game. Played the season with two torn labrums and still put up monster numbers. With Penn State in disaray and us not taking a TE this year, I like our chances.

Cedar Cliff star Adam Breneman being heavily recruited

BY ANDREW P. SHAY, The Patriot-News, December 28, 2011 6:21 p.m.

Cedar Cliff junior Adam Breneman is a rising star in the 2013 recruiting class.

The 6-5, 225-pound tight end committed Wednesday to play in the 2013 Under Armour All-America Game in Orlando, Florida. Breneman also received an invitation to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

“I talked with people from both games and it was a tough decision,” said Breneman, who was recently named to the Pennsylvania Sportswriters’ Class AAAA All-State team. “It was an honor to be invited to both games, but I feel the Under Armour game is an up-and-coming game.

“We’re there to play football, but this also about having a good time. And Orlando looks like a lot of fun.”

Breneman, who has 18 confirmed scholarship offers from several elite programs in the country, was rated as the No. 1 tight end in the country Wednesday in the rankings released by 247 sports.com.

The recruiting web site also has Breneman as the No. 32 overall recruit in the country, up 129 spots from his previous ranking.

None of the other major recruiting sources has released full rankings for the 2013 class, but it’s clear by the number of offers and receiving early invitations from each of the major high school all-star games, Breneman is one of the top tight ends in the country.

As a junior Breneman caught 72 passes for 1,120 yards and 12 touchdowns. For his career, he’s 16 catches shy of 150 and has more than 2,200 receiving yards.

“This offense is a blessing. And I tell coach that all the time. Not too many tight ends get thrown to 10 times a game,” Breneman said when asked his impression of why his stock is soaring. “I owe a lot to coach (Jim) Cantafio. He does a great job getting my highlight tapes out there, and he knows so many people.”

Breneman suffered two torn labrums during the season, but finished the year despite the injuries. He’s already had surgery on the right one, and is scheduled to have the left one operated on in early January.

With all the added attention in the recruiting circles, Breneman has no timeline drawn in the sand in terms of making a decision.

“I had always said I’d like to make my decision before my senior season starts. But that might be tough with what’s going on at Penn State and Pitt in terms of the head coach,” said Breneman, who recently received offers from Wake Forest and the University of Miami. “I’m not going to be one of those guys who makes a decision then de-commits later.

“I won’t commit until I’m 110 percent sure the school I choose is where I want to go. So I don’t really have a timeline. Whatever decision I make eventually, it will be my final decision.”

CONFIRMED OFFERS

Alabama, Stanford, Miami (Fla.), PennState, Maryland, MichiganState, Notre Dame, Rutgers, BostonCollege, Duke, FloridaState, Michigan, Pitt, Purdue, South Carolina, Temple, Virginia, WakeForest.

New hire for PSU might have just screwed us here. $100 says he tries selling to Adam how they use Gronk in New England. At Least that is what I would do.

I live in Harrisburg and I bet O'Brien will do that. But they have major things going against them. Kelly and Martin gotta work hard to get him. I work at a gym and some of the members know Adam personally, so I will try to get more inside information for IE.

we use our TE's well too, so that's not the advantage i'm worried about. all depends on how much he wants to stay home.

You couldn't pay me to go to a school where all those terrible things happened.... I don't even care if its a new staff. It's unforgivable

Understand your point, but kids who are being recruited to play football there...will still play football there.

USC off to good start with major TE talent
By Phil Kornblut
Junior TE Adam Breneman (6-5 220) of Camp Hill, PA is emerging as a national prospect with 25 verbal offers at this point including one from USC. Gamecock recruiter GA Mangus was by Breneman’s school in December for a check in. “I’ve been in contact with him and I’ve gotten to know him pretty well,” Breneman said. “I’m thinking about going down to visit. I’ll decide on that in about a month when I play some visits.” Breneman’s father played at Delaware Valley State where Mangus once was head coach, so there’s a connection to the Gamecock recruiter. Breneman’s offers include USC, Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Florida State, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Miami, North Carolina and others. He cited the Gamecocks, Maryland, Michigan State, Miami, North Carolina, Rutgers and Penn State as schools off to a good start in recruiting him. He’s not sure when he’ll decide but it’s possible he’ll have a decision prior to his senior season. Last season Breneman caught 72 passes for 1120 yards and 12 touchdowns. “I’m a flex out type of tight end,” he said. “I’ve played a lot of wide receiver.”

I thought we would have made the list of schools off to a good start. Got some ground to make up.

tuley-tillman supposedly didn't have us in his list either...this one is a long way from over and we'll get after him when we close out 2012.

Psss this is from a South Carolina interview. I don't put much into that statement.

Anyway the kid is going to go to ND, he is going to be in UA game next year so we are screwed.

I have a feeling this will be one of the fervid Kelly-Meyer battles in 2013.

Wouldn't rule out Penn State. Was an article on O'Brien on ESPN about his recruiting. Breneman had some quotes about how he liked O'Brien and was obviously excited about how TEs can perform in his offense.

Central Pa is pretty much Penn State country. They are probably the biggest competition for Breneman's service. I know people who know Adam personally. So I will try to get some inside info for IE.

Has to be since we passed on the #2 TE this year.

With Koyack and Welch still having eligibility, he isn't a "must." He simply isn't crucial like ILB's will be. He is however a tremendous player and I hope they get him to come to Notre Dame.

I believe that a tight end like Adam is perfect for Kellys system. With Effiert gone after next year That will leave us with Welch a Sr and Koyack a Jr for 2013 and i am not sold on either yet.

After 2012, we'll go from 4/4 to 2/4 at TE (assuming no 5Y for J. Golic), and from 7/8 to 5/8 at ILB (assuming only one of Fox and Calabrese gets a 5Y). So they'll both be dire needs for us.

Correct, but if we miss out on Adam there are other fish in the sea. Yes that works for ILB too, but if the defense doesn't have studs at ILB it's going to be a rough year, Kelly has young studs at TE and can simply afford to miss on Adam.

I guess maybe I'm just preparing people for life after Adam if he doesn't choose Notre Dame. I would love to see him in blue and gold, and sometimes green, but without him the offense will still produce.

haha I am one of the least negative posters on here. But it is important to keep everything in mind. He isn't at the top of the list. He is though at TE and is a major target. I think that is fair to say without being negative.

Chuck Martin stopped by to see him today.

Awesome. TE is most definitely a need next year. We can miss on Adam as long as we land another top TE, but we can't miss completely on a TE. I wouldn't be surprised to see us sign two next year.
