I went to every game and have been going since 1965. The field isn't crappy and is much improved from before Toma put in the new turf. I'm not going to get into a further pissing contest with you. We disagree. Let's move on.

It's not a pissing contest. That was me responding to your comments because you missed the point of my post.

Don't attempt a drive-by if you can't handle the rebuttal.

Lets be honest here for a moment. Alot of this revolves around tradition (everyone say duhhhh now) so in my eyes it's pretty simple. Rockne would have had a jumbotron, and field turf installed back in the day had it been invented. However it wasn't, but he wanted the best and got it, or he would have gone somewhere else to coach in order to get it. So if those things were available then they would already be in our stadium. Tradition of winning again is my main concern. We all like tradition, and that's why we love Notre Dame. What's wrong with improving on that, or creating new traditions that build on the old ones. I WANT A JUMBOTRON PLEASE::::::::::::

How's this: Can you agree to disagree and leave it at that?

This is a pretty fantastic way of looking at it. Major reps for your thoughts. Well thought out.

Field turf first-lets get the best surface for the best of this program. keep the field simple keep the endzone slashes. Then if its possible get a jumbotron. This is not disturbing tradition. Come in to the recruiting game with all guns blazing. Just dont mess with the look of the field. Notre Dame does not need to tell the viewing audience its Notre Dame by the look of the field. Leave it plain. But give these guys a chance to play on a super fast surface.

Right on....Rockne pioneered the USC rivalry which was sort of a novelty when it was started. There were very few teams going cross country to play football. THe ND fans of the 1890's probably thought this was breaking with tradition. I am old school as the next guy, but change is sometimes necessary to keep up with everyone else. And at the end of the day, we area not doing anything that is way out in left field like having a blue field or something like that.

Does someone have any new information regarding possible instillation of field turf or a jumboton?

No new info on the jumbotron but I'm sure about the field turf. I would like to know what type if anyone (i thought someone knew) of field turf will be used. Once I hear something about the jumbotron... It shall be posted.

Whiskey knows the name of the company. I think it'll be like what they have in Green Bay, Denver, Philly.

I'm behind on this topic and I'm confused by the above two posts. Are we getting field turf THIS coming year?

I think if they had field turf in the 1940's and 50's it would be part of our "tradition".

The packers have this type of field and it looks pretty tore up to me right now, especially up the middle of the field where you'd obviously see most of the action.

They do that on purpose to make the field look rugged, to keep up that "frozen tundra" reputation.

i talked to pretty reliable source this christmas...someone in a dept. that verifies spending, when i asked, "ok, what are we getting next year, jumbotron, fieldturf, or both?"
she responded, "i'm not sure."
while kind of winking. but then added that almost all of the "higher ups" at notre dame are very against the jumbotron.

i took this as fieldturf is possible for this year. but dont hold your breath for the jumbotron. she said it has to do, most obviously, with integrity of the stadium.

Guys... reread the thread. I stated that i know someone very very close to the program. Like, cant get any closer than this. lol I will not name names but unless barring something strange it is going to happen. First of all, I wouldn't give false info ( you don't know me obviously) but to pinpoint it to after the spring game... like right after??? I understand trolling but the thread is not that long, this fact has been verified by someone else in the know on our forum. I think we are past the point of discussion of whether it is going to happen for the field turf... let's try to figure out the type, company, hold-up, etc of the turf. Sorry if this comes off as an A$$ but i try to usually read the first post and the last few pages of threads before i post or join in. No shot toward any specific person, ok...rant over. Good night.

As usual thanks for the info. Your bona fides were established quite awhile ago. There known by those that actually read the board and not just the last post.

I've read this entire thread... just felt like having fun with the anonymity of his source. Must be Monday...

Lincoln Financial Field has Desso Grassmaster, which I believe may be what is rumored to be installed at ND Stadium soon.

Desso GrassMaster-reinforce natural grass with synthetic grass fibres - Desso Sports Systems

The packers have this type of field and it looks pretty tore up to me right now, especially up the middle of the field where you'd obviously see most of the action.

I'm glad that link got posted because as I watched the Packers game yesterday I felt the same way HCTI does. I noticed a few guys slipping and the field looked tore up through the middle. With that said, I have to ask what's the point? Why not just go all out and get 100% turf instead of this combination?

I'm no grassologist but this stuff sounds sweet! Anything named GrassMaster has gotta be worth the coin. It gets my seal of approval.

BTW... I've heard that NDOM is a grass expert. Waiting to see if he'll endorse this stuff.

You're correct. We need the field Turf and the Jumbotron if the commercials are very limited.

I wouldn't like to see any commercials at all. Stay classy! Keep everything on the video board ND.
