That Michigan's utter luckiness and/or paying off the refs (I'm leaning towards the latter) ends up landing them both Yuri Wright and Josh Garnett?

Wright - ND (Shumate plays a role IMO)

Garnett - Stanford

Just guesses.

What would be the reasoning behind that if you're Wright, though?

"If I go to Michigan then interceptions will fall out of the sky into my waiting arms, since Michigan seems to have four leaf clovers up their collective asses"?

I mean, even a 17/18 year old kid has to look at this and realize (1) nobody can be that lucky forever and I don't want to be there when the pendulum swings back and (2) Va Tech isn't that good, and that really isn't a great win.

Michigan gets both. Just gotta weird feeling.

Same. Yuri on the fence about announcing.... prolly gets a call tomorrow that gets him to hold off and visit Michigan....

Garnett is a wildcard because I think he goes to Stanford no matter what if he likes his visit there.

Nah, I just think he holds off on announcing for ND on Saturday because Michigan coaches get on the phone and say "WE JUST WON THE SUGAR BOWL!!! WOOO!!!!" when if Michigan had lost 24-0 like they should have I think Yuri says f*ck it and ends up Irish this weekend. So then he visits Michigan as an "open" prospect and who knows what happens... but it can't be better than him visiting as a committed prospect.

We'll see what happens though.

You say that in jest, but that's exactly what happened to Michigan this year. Everyone stayed healthy, every pass Denard threw off his back foot fluttered into the hands of a WR in the end zone and opposing QBs' passes just sort of ended up in the hands of their defensive backs.

Michigan, by all accounts, did absolutely nothing and managed to win 11 games through sheer luck and terribly officiating. They just finished the most amazing -- and completely befuddling -- season I've ever seen in college football history.

I have no doubt that will happen. It's Murphy's Law in effect throughout my life. ND gets $hat on in pretty much every aspect, while scUM can do no wrong.

Wright was going to visit Michigan anyway so them winning has no impact. Even if he commits to ND on Saturday it means nothing because he will still visit other schools. With the way his recruitment has gone you probably won't really know where he ends up until NSD.

I think people underestimate the stress Denard puts on defenses. Against ND, he was able to extend plays for 2 or 3 key extra seconds several times. That's all a good wide receiver needs to turn a DB around and force him to play catch up. Once that happens, of course, the under thrown ball actually favors the wide receiver, as the d-back is doing all he can to catch up to the guy down field when all of a sudden he comes back to the ball. Didn't watch much Michigan football this year, but that's definitely what I saw against ND. It's not a style of play that will work in the NFL, but for college football it can be pretty damn effective.

You can only do it with smokin mirrors for so long. Luck runs out! Yeh he puts stress on d-backs when he chucks it up but its still a 50/50 heave. Give them there due- they won -but not much else expected next year. An old fashioned experienced Notre Dame team would wear them down. Problem is they are still better than my Irish. The analysts did everything but call them luckey in their response to the game.

Yuri will come to ND thinking, (about the 45yr TD Denard hurled up to Hemingway in the 2nd last night) "I would have intercepted the HELL out of that ball, I can't wait to play UM next season!"

Who cares if they do. We dont know if they are going to be any good in college. They could be busts or they could be awesome, we wont know until later

If Wright is committing to ND at the game, then the bowl had very little impact on his decision.

I dont know how much it even matters anymore . When is the last meaningful bowl game we had and won ? We have got Clausen , Manti and not to mention several great classes in last few years . If a kid's picking his College on who win's one game I'm guessing he's not A Notre Dame guy.

Willingham's first year had the same feeling of dumb luck in many of the wins. Hopefully, Hoke's run will end up similar to Ty's.
