Here we go! Nine months to analyze, dissect, nit-pick every move, comment, inference, funny look that anyone associated with Notre Dame football makes. Here's my take:

With Floyd gone, and maybe Eifert (hope not), defenses in the beginning can play pretty straight up coverage on all of our receivers, at least until someone steps out. I think that could be a benefit, maybe!

It seems to me that the QB that ultimately wins the starter role will be the one who can best see the field, extend the play as needed, and hit the chosen receiver the quickest and most accurately. Has to be able to drop a bomb here or there, and won't let a turnover get in the way. There will be turnovers.

Now I'm biased towards Golson. He's kind of a home boy for me, at least in the sense that I'm pretty sure I have had some big times in his home town, just don't remember them.

That's my rational except to say I think the kid is really talented and he still has the most experience in a spread offense, albeit at a high school level. Won a state championship in a pretty competitive state.

So let's hear it. A long month of recruiting ahead, nine months of no games. That sucks....

More importantly, what is the over/under on QB threads between now and Sept. 3?

I have no idea what the answer will be, but I hope Spring ball plays a genuine roll in the determination and not legacy. I'd like to see Hendrix start with Golson getting reps, and a special package for Rees (specifically the winning formation). And as the season progresses, let the best man take control as they perform on the field on Saturdays and as leaders. No more being scared of the opponent - I'm sick of that sh*t.

I am also partial to Golson because of the offense he played in high school and the success he had running it. Having said that, I'm not ready by any stretch to give up on Hendrix yet. He just didn't get enough snaps in practice to get a fair shake just yet. And that's why the one wish I have is that Rees does not suck up so many practice snaps this spring and summer that Golson and Hendrix don't get a chance to know the whole playbook inside-out and get every opportunity to show what they can do.

Yea I am not really too hung up on who it ends up being, I like'm all. Even have to appreciate Tommy and hope he improves during the off season.

Agree with NDinNV, no more being scared. Let's go wide open! Ready! Fire! Aim!

Hoping Golson is the real deal. But something tells me #11 will be trotting out under center in Dublin.

Its got to be Golson or Hendrix barring some huge improvement from Rees, and judging by the fact that Crist beat out Rees last off-season, he might not be a guy who practices too well. Considering we are without Floyd, we're going to need someone to keep defenses on their toes. It has to be Golson or Hendrix.

I don't agree that it has to be. But I agree that it's highly likely. I don't have a lot of faith in any of the receivers except for Eifert. We're going to need another dimension, to hopefully create favorable matchups for our wideouts.

Rees, guy is a winner. Just needs to improve his decision making.

No.

I hope Rees never takes another meaningful snap at Notre Dame. I love the guy, respect the hell out of him, but he isn't the answer. He was obviously holding the team back this year. Even if he does improve his decision making, he's still mediocre. He isn't terribly accurate, and his arm strength leaves a lot to be desired.

And don't give me the "he's a winner" garbage (not attacking your post, just the idea in general) because, yeah he's something like 12-4 in his career as a starter (i know that's not exact but I didn't want to look it up) but he hasn't been the reason we've won most of those games. If he were a winner, he wouldn't have thrown that floater into double coverage with the game on the line Thursday night. If he were truly a winner, he wouldn't have been benched against Stanford after his 2nd series. This team won 8 games this year largely because of the defense and running game. Some games (such as BC) were won largely in spite of him. I think he's reached his ceiling, and there's not much more Brian Kelly can do for him.

I hope the best for him, but we need to move on. He isn't the future, and another season with him as our starting QB is a wasted season. The Tommy Rees era is over.

It's time to see what Golson can do. He's our best shot, and we might as well bite the bullet next year and throw him in. Because as ugly as it could be to start, it looks like next year will be a little bit of a retooling year anyway. We might as well get him experience next year to load up for the real make-or-break year of the Brian Kelly era, 2013.

I could give a **** about the name of the QB, just as long as he is the one who gives us the best shot to win.

Golson will win the job going away in the spring.

There will be no 1A & 1B crap---There will be no "special packages"

Everett will start in DUBLIN and for a long time afterward.

SJIrish, Tommy is a winner??? Really. Have you really looked at him and his stats this year?

I can agree with you if he plays lesser teams, BUT HE IS NOT A WINNER AGAINST GOOD TEAMS--How did he do against Stanford=L How about USC=Loss, How about FSU=Loss, how about Michigan=Loss Ok, he beat MSU. 1-4 That isn't a winner. 6 TD's and 13 turnovers. Sorry he isn't a winner. If we play weaker teams his is a winner. But, to get to the next level you can't have a guy how doesn't learn from his mistakes--he regressed this year.

He never needs to take another snap in big games. A guy who throws into bad areas constantly, weak arm, and can't run to save his life doesn't deserve to be the QB at ND.

Sorry nice kid, bad/horrible QB against good teams.

Oh, in his 1 win against a good team he had 161 yards of passing 1 TD 1 Fumble and 1 INT and the defense held MSU to 13 points and GAIII ran a kickoff back for a TD. So, he even sucked in the 1 win.

I see your point but people also fail to realize this O-line still needs to get way better. The O-line made some strides this year but still struggles against good defenses. Against defenses like USC, FSU, Stanford and MSU they had issues protecting Rees and opening up holes for the running game. Most of the time when Rees is protected he plays well. His decision making must improve but I think as a junior with experience that will get better.

Better O-line = Better Rees

Can be true, but the problem is that it isn't fair to ask the Oline to block forever because Tommy can move or run to save his life. And is it the online's fault that Tommy hasn't learned what double coverage is? Tommy's has had time to throw he just hasn't learned enough this year.

Tommy is Tommy. He is a turnover machine no matter how the line blocks. Our oline was fine against MSU and he threw for 161 yards and 2 turnovers. Tommy is a horrible QB against good defense, no matter how the line blocks. If the line blocks and gives Tommy 7-10 seconds to throw I guess he can be fine. But, is that realistic. Tommy had a 1000 yard back, another one on the way to 900+, All American TE and WR and he still absolutely sucked against good defenses. This is on Tommy and how horrible he is, don't blame it on the Oline.

Andrew looked pretty solid with the same line against Stanford!!!!!!! TOMMY SUCKS AGAINST GOOD DEFENSES--it isn't the Oline's fault.

I was watching some highlights from Tim Tebow's freshman year and it frustrates me so much that the special package was barely used at all this year. It was the perfect way for Tebow to execute plays that matched his skill set as a freshman without putting pressure on him to play 100% of the time.

If Kelly had implemented this kind of a package with Hendrix this year, I would feel a lot more confident heading into next year. I know that Hendrix isn't Tebow, but to let him stand on that sideline with a helmet against the likes of Maryland and Wake with no game experience outside of Air Force and then throw him into action vs Stanford and now FSU? This year was a complete waste in developing QB's and I can only hope that Golson only got stronger and learned a lot during his red shirt year.

With what we have been hearing from the bowl practices. Golson should be the quarterback.
