So, I made a facebook post mentioning Golson after the game and someone commented that she heard he was not coming back because of a grade issue. I'm very skeptical of this and was just wondering if anyone else heard anything about him. I'm really hoping she is mistaken.

One can only hope Golson is the answer, because Rees isn't and I don't think Hendrix is. I'm not a fan of how Hendrix runs. He is also tripping over his own feet.

imo even if this were true i would hope the coaches would have it taken care of, especially after watching the QB play tonight and the professor that gave him the bad grade would be high tailed off campus

That doesn't make sense. If this were true he wouldn't have been able to make the trip to the Champ Sports bowl, just like Kamara couldn't go to the Sun bowl last year.

My Prediction: Golson shreds the defenses of Navy and Purdue and we declare him as the second coming of Christ only to be disappointed when we lose at MSU.

I hope he is the starter. I like what Hendrix can do but he is not made for this offense, he is being taught how to function in this offense and almost looks robotic. Golson is made for this offense and has played in an offense like it in high school. He is the only chance we have currently on the roster at QB.

I don't think Tommy transfers. He knows he has no shot at the NFL, so what's more valuable? 2 years of PT at Western Kentucky or a free ND education? I'll bet 40,000 v-bucks that he doesn't transfer. Somebody send me the bet.

I never followed Rees' recruitment by Weis much, do any of you guys remember it? What was it exactly that Weis saw in him?

In all honesty Rees is a MAC level QB at best though.

Hendrix never had a fair shake...

How do you figure?

He's #2 on the depth chart. And I think his performance was an indication of why he was not ready to start: The first pass he threw would have been great...............IF TJ Jones was 10 foot tall. How about the short throw that he bounced at Floyd's feet? He brings a different dimension to the offense, in his running. But make no mistake about it...........Hendrix is NOT Michael Vick. A QB (even in a spread option offense) is a PASSER, first; a runner, second. This isn't the triple option! He's got to improve his accuracy, if he wants to get a shot at being the man. Until he does, he's right where he has earned: a change of pace guy who isn't going to get a lot of game reps.

His first pass was great. That was Jones' fault for dropping it. Even the announcers were saying it was a good pass. Obviously, he needs work. That was essentially his second game. We shouldn't write him off. The battle between Hendrix and Golson for starter should be great during the offseason.

I'm not writing him off. I'm just saying that accuracy is not his strong suit. And it's not like he brings Michael Vick-esque running ability to the position. So I don't think he's not been given a fair shake. The bottom line is that he only completed 48.6% of his passes, even in limited action. If he was ready to be a starter, you would expect him to be able to complete at least 50%? He needs to get better, that's all I'm saying.

How do we know Hendrix was properly prepared (given enough reps) by Kelly?

How do we know Rees got enough reps?

How do we know that Hendrix didn't have some bad seafood, and was afraid that he was going to sh!t his pants on National TV?

How do we know that Hendrix got enough sleep?

We can play "what ifs" all night long.

That's exactly the issue. I don't claim to have insider info, but I do know from a couple of players/people who manage that throughout the year he hasn't gotten nearly close to the number of reps that you would have hoped him to get, along with the fact that he hasn't had as much exposure to the playbook from Kelly. Hell, I even heard that Hendrix didn't even hear directly from Kelly that he wasn't going to start this game. I know after this 1 game that it's easy to dismiss Hendrix and say he isn't the answer, but the reality is that Kelly has not given him a fair shake and presumably he'll have time to show what he's made of this Spring.

To play Devil's Advocate........

How do you know he didn't get exactly the number of reps that he earned?

One of the things that Golson has said, is that he was limited (early in the year) by his adjustment to the academic rigors of ND. Remember that these guys have to be successful students, first. Maybe Hendrix's role was limited, because he needed all of his time away from practice to study economics, not the playbook?

A lot of people on this board knew from day 1 that Kelly was grooming the wrong quarterback but he still kept playing Rees instead of Hendrix or Crist. That really baffled me. It was so frustrating watching the offense sputter with Rees at the helm. ND would have won the same number of games with Hendrix or Crist playing. And I have a feeling those two would have done a better job if only Kelly gave them a chance to play more. But what really irks me is that we're back to square 1 on offense. No progress, no qb development at all this year. I would have preferred to see what Golson could do even if it means burning his red shirt year. At least we would have an idea who would be starting next year. Two seasons, same result. You have to wonder why the team is still struggling on offense.

hendrix threw a pass to tj after he dropped the one a few plays later that tommy could only make in his dreams.

hendrix and golson will duke it out this spring and if rees wants to see the field he should learn how to hold field goals.

I don't think anyone can argue this: Kelly botched the QB situation this season.

No one can argue against it, but neither can anyone argue for it........ unless you attended all of the practices, the meetings, and were privvy to the academic reports. It might not be as easy as everyone would like to think it is. It rarely is.

I remember the announcers making the same observation. It was just as untrue then, as it is now. Tommy threw a couple of frozen ropes on out routes this year. It's certainly not his signature throw, but he made at least a couple of them. People who want a change of QB want to believe that Rees could never make that throw, but that doesn't make it true.
