Notable in the sense that he can recruit the hell out of that region of the country. This makes getting the NJ boys that more important IMO.

Looking to next year, here are a couple of big time guys in the area that could impact ND:

Breneman - Offered by both ND and Terps
David Williams - Offered by both ND and Terps
Kendall Fuller - Offered by both ND and Terps

These are just a few.

One thing is for sure, PSU is going to have their hands full. They have made a living in that area with Senior Johnson recruiting that part of the country but with Locksley coming in and PSU in shambles, the recruiting power is up for grabs and Maryland has made a move.

Maryland is still Maryland. Unless his recruiting prowess is directly derived from duffle bags of cash 5:s: talent is still not going to be very interested in Maryland... especially a Maryland that isn't winning games.

He didn't exactly do a great job with the Lobos now did he? Though I'll admit, he has done a good job as a position coach/coordinator before...and not a bad recruiter, but still...

Locksley went 2-26 overall with New Mexico. Never held a coaching job higher than running back clack before the HC job at New Mexico. If I'm a Maryland fan I'm beyond pissed at this hiring.

He was OC at Illinois, I thought. That's how he got the HC job.

Its Maryland. Yeah he is a good recruiter but ND speaks for itself over Maryland. The best he will ever pull in is those level level 4 stars or high 3 stars.

I agree he might not be the best coach out there, in terms of X's and O's. However, you cannot ignore his recruiting success at Illinois and Florida, where he was a position coach and recruiting coordinator for Zook in 2003 and 2004

He was largely given the credit for the recruiting success Zook had Florida and Illinois (and Illinois clearly fell behind after he left for NM). He either was directly recruiting or aided in landing the following players (off of memory here):
Mikel Leshooure
Arrelious Benn
Derrick Harvey

He also put together the two classes that were largely responsible for UM's first national title at UF, with guys like Harvey, Reggie Nelson, Chris Leak, Andre Caldwell, Jarvis Moss, Dee Webb, Brandon Siler and Cornelius Ingram.

Clearly, this guy can recruit. I am not saying Maryland is going to be turning into a power house here, but I do remember not getting Benn and losing him to Illinois. So, we might see more of this in the future with a locality that is up in the air in recruiting b/c of PSU.
