I can't believe there's barely been any mention of MICHAEL JACKSON. Hands down the artist of the millennium. He made Thriller.

After MJ, I'd have to say Mozart and then the Beatles to round off the top 3.

I'm still waiting for Alamo to chime in (no pun intended)

bahahaha I don't play the triangle...totally could master it though!

I haven't been available to see another music thread started.

Most talented musician...that's a tough question...I couldn't ever answer with just one.

For some reason everyone jumps to guitar players and contemporary musicians with this thread.

Guitarist: Impossible to choose one. As a guitarist I am biased towards my biggest inspirations...who aren't necessarily the most talented EVER. The five biggest influences on me have been Randy Rhoads, Izzy Stradlin, James Hetfield, Luther Perkins, Stevie Ray Vaughan...with some Jerry Cantrell and Dimebag and any number of rock and blues players.

There are so many other instruments with players that don't get the attention that the popular recording artists of the present day and recent past get...

Composer: Ludwig van Beethoven.

Anyone wanna throw some best pianist of all time suggestions out there? Violin?

And after Thriller, Michael allegedly "MADE" several underage boys.

Mozart it is then... ;)

I like JSB and Beethoven to be ranked pretty darned high...if not a nose above Mozart.
Wagner needs in the mix.

Memory, mental and aural overload! Are we talkin' instrumental technicians, or innovators and improvisational wunderkinds? Are we talkin' composers of orchestral masterpieces or simpler folk instrumentals? Are we talkin' lyricists, with or without collaboration? Are we talkin' brass, string, woodwind, acoustic, electric? Are we talkin' vocalists (the voice is an instrument) with or without electronic amplification, with or without auto-tuning? My list of picky-*** questions could go on, but mercifully it won't.

A sampling of my "votes":

Guitar: Andres Segovia
Trumpet: Louis Armstrong
Cello: Yo-Yo Ma
Piano: Van Cliburn (with Oscar Peterson as a close second)
Percussion: Buddy Rich
Woodwind: Woody Herman

There are many, many more categories and favorites swirling in my addlepated (semi) consciousness head that I'll quit ... for now.

If you really think Lil Wayne is the best artist of all time you are really f'ing retarded. Seriously who the hell would think that he was the best artist of all time.. Anyways..

Talent wise how can anyone not mention Prince. My favorite it is to hard to choose.

The thread doesn't specify...just says "musician"

Thank you my good man for adding some variety to the discussion!

Agreed.

I still got my boy Ludwig up front.

Hard to deny Beethoven, however google ludwig and he isn't even number 1. Sad to say. I guess this discussion isn't modern era, but talent wise no doubt it is Prince. He can do it all. Might be a little off..., but music wise who the hell isn't.

You gotta be "off" to be a musician.

I love some of Prince's stuff...some isn't so pleasing, but some is flat out awe inspiring. Has he been up to anything lately?

About LvB
Yeah Ludwig drums are legit though. They most likely pay some $$$ to get the top search result.

Honestly, I have no clue if Prince has done things lately. He has some really good music but I agree some isn't that great. He did do a whole soundtrack for the Batman movie, how many artists have done that. Not to mention it was a great CD. I appreciate music very much and I'm only 24 years old, just to give you a little background. I'm really open to music and listen to everything, literally. I have a very open mind about music and give everything a chance, just about. I think Techno music is my cutoff.

Techno is really rough for me. I even appreciated blue grass, which is what my grandpa listened to. It might not have been appeasing to me but he loved it so I gave it a chance.

So true. I just put in their CD and their music is so awesome. CCR does not get enough credit.

I love discussions like this because it does make you think about music you listened to before and then in turn makes you put the music in.

So true. Then you start putting in the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, and others. Then its 3 in the morning. Good times.
