This certainly scares me... but it just doesnt add up seeing as he posted "aha you people crack me up...gone look stupid feb 2." in the facebook group in response to people questioning his commitment to ND.

Great point.

That can be interpreted a lotttttt of different ways. I just looked at that page and there's comments above that that say he's staying wit ND. There's no way in hell you can pin-point one of the 30-some comments and say that's which one DG was referring to.

I beg to differ. How can that comment be in response to someone saying he's staying with ND? How can a person look stupid for thinking he'll stay with ND? I am by no means saying that this is some form of evidence or fact that he will sign with us, but at the same time I think this is a clear statement by him suggesting that the worriers will look stupid. There are sources on both sides, saying that he is staying with ND and that he is decommiting, so I am choosing to just look at what DG says.

There are people who made comments before DG said that, that were both about him staying with ND and also about the possibility of him decommitting. He could have been responding to a specific comment, or a handful of them. But there's no way it was in response to all of them because there were comments from both sides. If I had to guess, I'd agree with you that it's most likely geared toward the people questioning his commitment to ND, but it's hardly obvious.

If USC gets dg and Nelson I'm calling shenanigans. But seriously I'm gonna bet there paying them if that's the case.

He's committed to ND right now. I'd rather be on this side than the school he's not committed to.

Yeah, it's logically safe to assume it's towards the detractors. It really wouldn't make sense to post a "haha.. y'all are silly" message on a pro-ND facebook page created by his cousin if it was towards people saying they had faith in Deontay. But who knows? Weirder **** has happened. Like when Deanthony Thomas went to Oregon at the 11th hour.

I'll be sorely disappointed if the reason he doesn't come to ND is the "distance" and "SB sucks" card local coaches ALWAYS play against Notre Dame. If being at ND sucked, kids wouldn't flock there from all over the world to get their education in South Bend, IN.

It'd be awesome if we get him but good luck to the young man if he decides to go to USC. South Bend is not for everyone. To me, the quarterback issue is more important than the WR at ND right now. A good QB can find receivers to throw to all day.

That's not just taking a shot at USC, it's taking a shot at these kids. Be careful with stuff like that. Suggesting that kids are accepting bribes because they go to a different school is dangerous grounds. Especially because it's been proven that they visit these message boards.

He's committed to ND as of now and so is his cousin. I'm sure the staff has wind of this and talk to him. I think it's a long shot that he flips but it's also a long ways until Feb 2nd.

Why would any receiver, not-named Dorial Beckham even want to touch USC's WR depth? They're young and stacked.

+1. No need to impugn their integrity. They are great kids.

If there's one big lesson I've learned from recruiting, never put much stock into what a recruit says publicly.

What USC/Kiffin doesn't have a history of recruiting violations? I'm not specifying these kids in general just saying the Kiffin and crew are scumbags who are willing to bend the rules to get kids. No need to get your panties in a bunch.

Actually, I'd say Kiffin has been on his best behavior since arriving at USC.

They have to be on their best behavior. If any recruiting violation came up now during their period of probation they would probably be looking at a SMU situation. Theres no way thats happening now.

Your post was taking a shot at the kids as well as Kiffin and USC. Suggesting that these kids would have accepted money if they decide to go to USC is unwarranted and ridiculous.

A kid from Florida that grew up a USC fan is whole life would only go to Los Angeles to play for his childhood favorite for money? Brilliant point on your part.

A kid from California could be having second thoughts about moving across country so he is taking a OV to a school that is filling the NFL with wide receivers. He must be accepting money if he decides to stay close to home. Another brilliant point on your part.

I could have added any recruits to that list and labeled and....and....and. Those are just the two recruits that are rumored to be taking OV's to USC soon. It doesn't speak to their morals specifically just my feeling that Kiffin and his staff don't do things the right way and athough nothing has come to light about allegations of him cheating at USC, give it time something will pop up. He was one of the dirtiests coaches in America at Teneesse. That's supposed to magically go away and SC?

Not really, after they made an example out of USC the NCAA has backed down on everything. Its clear that Miami, Ohio State, and Penn State should recieve harsh penalities (and maybe Auburn) but they won't because the NCAA isn't trying to clean up college athletics at this point there trying to make money.

Sorry for derailing Deontay's thread with this, mods please delete or move so that people can get the scoop on Denotay more quickly.

I would be shocked if he is cheating at USC. USC recruits itself and Haden is cleaning that program up. If anything, getting rid of that enabling pos Mike Garrett probably is the reason why **** is not going down. Tressel is on another level with how many minor violations he has committed while at is tenure with pOSU.

I would be shocked if Deontay flips to USC, I honestly believe its still a package deal.

And if they were to go to different schools i'd expect it not to be rival schools.

He probably wanted to go on a free vacation to LA. I heard they set up there recruits at LA Live and get the star treatment. Not a bad idea if I were 17 years old.

Next season we will have no proven receiver at Big Mike's position, one at TJs, and maybe two at slot [I'll say just one {Toma} until Riddick shows me more consistency]. That means three minimum and maybe four openings on the Two-Deep, and Coach plays receivers if they're ready.

In line for those slots, only Davaris Daniels looks like a sure thing. In come Greenberry, Ferguson, and Brown --- all elite talents --- to grab those positions. Opportunities should look extremely bright to Deontay. Playing time, national stage, and a gun-slinging offense.

I really hope he doesn't flip. If he does, he will go down in recruiting lore with Omar Hunter and Chris Martin. Nobody wants that!

He could play from day 1 and be a star at ND.... or he could stay "closer" (still a 4 hour drive with no traffic... really, the same amount of time as flying to South Bend) to home and maybe never see the field. After more reading, I put it at 50/50 he stays Irish. I think Kiffin is clearly working him to get to Tee because Kiffin NEEDS EEs with the sanctions.

In other news, can Ed O and Kiffin recruit or what? You have to respect the hustle on some levels. They will do anything and everything to get their guys... and college football is won with Moes and Joes not Xs and Ox. On other levels, I hate that they lie to kids... things like telling Amir Carlisle USC has the #1 business school comes to mind. Or when they (along with Dillon Baxter) lied about him being contacted by other coaches when the sanctions broke. Or when they lied to kids about sanctions "not going to be a big deal" to begin with. Or how they're about to cut 10+ kids over the next 2 years.

Hopefully Deontay see the light because we really need him. He isn't quite as crucial as Tee because of our depth at CB, but he's a pretty darn big deal.

2011 Stanford Nike Camp interview with Deontay Greenberry - YouTube

If you saw this interview from earlier in the year, it's hardly surprising that USC has come into the picture for him. It sounds like he has had family (not Tee) pushing him that way for a while. Major disappointment if he flips to the Trojans.

Wow good pull..... how often have we seen this play out (both for ND and against)? Seems like always one party really likes ND and the other tries to push them the other way. Crazy.
