Chris played before I was born but I got his autograph at a ND game when I was little and then looked up some of his footage and he may be the most badass player to play for Notre Dame. Either him or Jeff Faine.

Zorich knew he was gonna kick your arse. You knew Zorich was gonna kick your arse.

And he knew that you knew.

Tough question, but Ross Browner and Mike Zorich are definitely in there. The linebacker trio of Mike Stonebreaker (gets bonus points for his name), Frank Stams, and Wes Pritchett, who brawled with the Miami thugs in the Rockne Stadium tunnel in 1988.

Also, I gotta believe there were some tough SOBs on those national championship teams of the pre-facemask days.

Not OMM, but for those who didn't get to grow up watching the great teams from the Holtz era, ND hasn't had a player since Zorich. Plain and simple. Lynch will be a star, but Zorich physically kicked your *** up and down the field for an entire game while facing double teams a good portion of the game. I've followed ND closely since 87', and I know there were some damn good players before then, however, Zorich is untouchable in this category, IMO.

I would love to get Old Man Mike's take on this

OMM posted just a few days ago about Monty Stickles. I don't remember what thread it was in.

Stickles was a 60 Minute Man and played every one of them with intensity. Think Zorich or Faine on steroids and you'll start to get the picture. Zibby only punched boxers in the face.

There were others but Stickles belongs on the short list.

There was Bad *** named Alan Page, that went on to play for the Purple People Eaters as a Defensive End, Bryant Young, Ross Browner were other Bad *** defensive Ends, Lets not forget the Golic Brothers. The Truth is there have been a lot of Bad *** players over the years. Justin Tuck might be mad if we left him off the list. I wish we could play that d-line

Rotate: Browner, Tuck, Page, Mike Golic, Zorich, Young, Bob Golic.
