Rumor had it that he and Haley couldn't get along at the end of year. So while he may have went on his own, I think they weren't on the same page.
That's just what I have heard.
Jason Whitlock (who I like) did a piece on this back in December/January. He ripped on Haley pretty bad, and shockingly, didn't too bad on Weis. Whitlock did a story ripping Haley again a few weeks ago too.
I like Weis (or at least, I want to like Weis) but his ego is just massive. I was kind of excited to hear about him going to Florida, particularly with his son being there. As somebody that wants to see Weis do well, I thought this was a good place for him to be. As an objective fan of football, I thought it was a great hire by Muschamp-- he's a defensive coach and is bringing in somebody that knows how to run an offensive system. Plus, as a 1st time head coach, he's bringing in somebody with head coaching experience, albeit somebody who didn't have a lot of success as a head coach, but a HC nonetheless. And Weis is a big name and can obviously get results recruiting and coaching up QB's and WR's. I did wonder, though, about how Weis would handle working under: 1) anybody 2) a guy that's only been a defensive coordinator before 3) a guy that was on a staff that just went 5-7 the year before 4) somebody that isn't Bill Parcells or a Parcells disciple. This is Chuck's first experiment working under a non-Parcellsian since his high school gig.
I wonder how true any of these rumors swirling are. It's interesting stuff, for sure.
Whatever the case may be, I hope Nelson is all Irish!!
