I'm not a fossil, but I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that Hotlz didn't have NEAR the talent this team does in his first 2 years. Also, college football has changed big time. Coaches are making an immediate difference compared to 20 years ago. See, Chip Kelly in 2nd year at Oregon and a bunch of other 2nd year guys.

ND has talent, in a vacuum. Lots of highly ranked recruits. The problem is that most of them are slow as sh*t...

There is some talent. But, don't you see how much better the talent is playing now than they were 3 years ago?

We finally have an offensive line that dominates inferior talent like they're supposed to. We have a very very young, but sometimes dominant defensive line.

We also have a young sophomore QB who is wildly inconsistent, but has better numbers than Jimmy Clausen at the same point in his career.

We're getting better.

We can break it down all we want. I honestly expected Kelly to be better at this point. Not saying he isn't the guy, I just expected results sooner. We're about .500 against ok teams, beat poor teams, and can't beat a good team. USC without Barkley last year was not a good team.

flipping back and forth from Ala and LSU reminds me of how far this team needs to go. I will always believe but it is one heck of an uphill struggle.

Bama was far from that not too long ago. we will get there. keep the faith

Harrison Smith is trying to commit murder tonight. He's had a handful of really hard hits.

I really wouldn't mind the Rees criticism if you guys could point to someone on the bench that should be playing over him...

We havent seen anybody else. Crist got ONE HALF of football this year coming back from a knee injury and was benched for putting up a half of football comparable to what rees did today in the first half. Last year Crist was our QB and outplayed Tommy all year, and put up some very good games against some pretty solid defenses. Yes he fumbled one snap against USC that turned out to be a back breaker, but not different than all the INTs tommy has thrown, or the ball coming out of his hand on its own against Michigan.

I think the point your missing is that everybody who criticizes Rees just wants somebody else to GET A CHANCE to run the offense, because right now Rees is NOT getting it done against anything but horrible defenses. Hendrix has looked good in limited duty, and Dayne proved last year he has the ability...but neither one of them has really gotten the chance this year, and Rees' leash is WAY too long with the way he is performing. For all those criticizing Coach Kelly, Nick Saban would have had Rees' as5 on the bench long ago with all these TOs.

We destroyed Utah last year and dominated Michigan State this year.

I thought we'd be further along too, but we were pretty low when he got here. And we're building in the right places (OL, DL).

No, we don't know, but neither does he. I think Hendrix has the goods, but no one will know until he gets a shot.

LOL@you thinking that Kelly can't evaluate a QB unless the guy plays in a live game. Again, to quote an old man not named Mike, "There's a good f*cking reason that Kelly is the coach and you aren't!"
