What? Were you not around when we were destroyed last year? And what makes you think Diaco suddenly knows how to stop the triple option? A win is never guaranteed for any team, especially for ND. I think I speak for more than myself when I say I will never be surprised by ND's ability to lose.

Well just a couple of days ago we had people predicting scores like 63-14 an now we are predicting something like 38-35. Whats up with all the negativity on this board?

I EXPECT a win by at LEAST 30 points. We should beat Navy every year like we were for 43 straight years. This Navy team is down this year at 2-5 and their starting QB out.

I believe in this Irish team.

Can you please tell the other 70 posters to believe in his team. Its amazing what one comment/loss can do the team/fan base

Well if you look at some of the players twitter they have pretty much Quit on Kelly. I am sorry but when you put on twitter that you are only playing for your brothers or you put numbers on there that means you are quitiing on the coaches. We don't know what Kelly said in the locker room but we do know what he told the media and he finally came out of the kelly cave. He has stood by these guys when they won or lost. Sounds like to me his now isn't getting the respect from the older players because they think other schools should give us a win. You have to question the the mental state of this team

Oh okay. I thought you were talking about why anyone would be nervous in general. I think we can win, but I'm worried about the younger players' lack of discipline hurting against the triple option. However, this should be offset by Rees' ability to do well against really bad defenses. And I, for one, will never predict ND putting up more than 50 (yeah, I know they scored 59 against AF)

Thank you for not being negative. I also think that we put up a lot of points. I think everyone is taking this twitter thing too seriously. These players are practically grown men, they know what their job is and they wont let a little comment ruin the season. If they did let it get to their heads, they have A LOT of growing up to do

People are just sick of the losing and I don't fault them for that. However, there has not been one game this year that I watched and thought the other team was the better team. It really is as simple as the turnovers. Even the USC game, we had them on the ropes.

Regardless, this is where we sit. The upperclassmen are used to losing. I won't sit here and say they don't try because they do but they don't know how to step up and use the untapped potential that lies within them. I can't remember the last time an ND coach has called out his players. Let's be honest, that was nothing. If what he said makes them quit then they should pack up and go play in the FCS.

I believe because I choose to believe. It's a choice that people have to make for themselves.

The twitter thing is definitely overblown. You should read some of the tweets aimed at our players after the usc game. Some of them are downright vicious. I think what it boils down to is this: they are a family and they hold strong against outside attacks (even by their own fans), but when a member of their family calls them out, it hurts much, much worse. I think Kelly was trying to light a fire under them, but these kids have been under so much stress, not only from losing, but just criticism from people who have never played the game, that they were bound to snap. Sometimes, social media is quite evil.

I have a feeling that the "comment" from Brian Kelly might be a blessing in disguise. It will light a fire in their hearts and they will go out and open up a can of whoop a$$

Still think we win by 17+ but it's hard to not get a little nervous from the player teeets

That bolded part might be taking it a little to far. We had some momentum going and were about to tie it but we didn't have them on the ropes. Otherwise I generally agree with your post.

Maybe we had them back on their heels would have been a bit better?

Gameday captian Chris Salvi speaks at pep rally
Angelo DiCarlo, WNDU.com
10/29/11

A special moment Friday night at the Notre Dame pep rally as Brian Kelly named walk on Chris Salvi as the gameday captain, Salvi is the first walk on to be named a captain since Kelly arrived at Notre Dame.

And the long time Irish fan put things in perspective in a big way Friday night inside Purcell Pavilion as the Irish get set to face Navy Saturday afternoon.

Chris Salvi, gameday captain, speaks about what this means to him, “Ever since I was a kid I was watching Notre Dame football I loved it for something like this to happen it's a dream come true.
You see our mascot and he's always got a fist ready to fight, ready to fight the Fighting Irish. That’s who we are. Some adversity has hit our team over the last week and what happens the fist comes apart and becomes weak. Adversity hits people and people from the outside want to take you apart. It’s like this you cant fight like this so what we've done is close that fist. Coach Kelly has closed that fist. These players have closed this fist. We are ready to fight. And we are gonna knock out the shipmen.

Salvi is from Chicago and went to the same high school as Declan Sullivan.

So what are you guys going to do when/if we lose to Navy?

Oh, "just wait till next year" or "wait until kelly gets all his players" or blah blah blah?

Tired of all the excuses. Supposedly Navy does not have their starting quarterback yet I have a sneaky suspicion that whoever their quarterback is, He's going to somehow have a career day and Navy will win yet again. Not to mention they are going to run for over 400 yards probly.

When is it going to be UNacceptable to lose to Navy?

Are you okay, man? It's gonna be okay.

Look at it as another opportunity to rise to the occasion.

It's a new Saturday, and Notre Dame is going to win today.

Join me in focusing on that, my fellow ND friend.

When it comes down to it, there's no better way to let go of the stress and frustration of a rough week than to turn to the game and play tough. And that's what the guys are going to do today. Put the issues to rest on the field, boys. You got this! We've got your back! GO IRISH!

I wish I had your enthusiasm. Here's mine:

"It's a new saturday, and ND is going to lose AGAIN"

Sorry bro but I just can't be as positive as you are. I have been watching ND since 84 when I was 7 years old. They were good. Dominant. Nasty. Tough. Intimidating football team to play.

Now it's 2011 and ND football is just another game on someone's schedule. Nobody fears us anymore. and it's pretty simple to come into ND stadium and win. Until I see MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR change I'm just going to continue to accept the fact that we really aren't much better than the Sun Belt/MAC teams.

It's good, man. I understand the disappointment. I was just trying to pick you up, mainly because I think we all need it (even as fans). I've been watching since 88 when I first moved to Indiana with my family. I was in the 3rd grade, and Notre Dame entered my picture at the perfect time in my life. They were incredible!

It's almost impossible to disagree with your observation that nobody fears us anymore, but if Kelly finds a way against the odds, ND will see a resurgence of respect. What is amazing is that even with this seemingly eternal lull from national prominence, ND is still an opponent that teams come ready with their A games.

Here's hoping we bring our A game vs. Navy! If we do, I think we see definite results on the field today.

Cool. Thanks man. I think it may be working a little bit. I just want us to win today. I would like to see us DOMINATE them because we should but just WIN!!!!

No problem. I want the same as you. I anticipate seeing the V formation by the end of the game. One of the things that I will really be looking forward to watching is the performance of the freshmen on the D-Line. It's going to be a great challenge for them, and on a selfish level, it will allow me to have just a little more patience as a fan. Hope we both enjoy the game!

They have one of the worst defenses in the FBS. We just have to stop them once more then they stop us (or we stop ourselves), and in this particular case, it is hard for me to see how we don't come out on top of the equation.

Ok, friends....let's all calm down. Our recent history vs Navy notwithstanding, we're gonna win today, and win comfortably. Some would say that it's a sad commentary on the state of Irish football that we're so stressed out over the possibility of losing to any of the service academies....not me. We're back to playing on the level where our academically oriented institution rightfully belongs. But please, after we beat them, let's not all start jumping on the bandwagon again complaining that we're not ranked nationally! That's embarrassing!!

This game is a win if we don't have any stupid turnovers like backwards swing passes and fumbles on the goal line. Let's go, gentlemen.
